Review-ELF Studio Haul-Continued

Hello lovelies!

Back to finish reviewing my most recent ELF Studio Line Haul. Now on to the face and enhacing products.

Eye Transformer:

ELF Description:
Convert your shadows into brand new shades with these four opalescent shadows. Wear alone, under, over or in combination with your other makeup. The opal tones transform your dark color into a new shimmering hue.

I haven't gotten a big chance to play around with these babies yet-they swatch as just shimmer (which is why i didn't post a terrible pic of it). My next post I'm going to do some swatch comparisons with NYX and Mac shadows-with and without the transformer. Since swatches come up terrible on my skin, does it make sense to do it on paper or no? I need some assistance from my blogga ladies.

Corrective Concealer Palette:
Elf Description:
Conceals under-eye darkness, blemishes and other skin imperfections with customized coverage. Brightens under-eye circles and neutralizes redness. Convenient size for on-the-go travel.

I really wanted a peachy complexion for the under-eye area, so decided to give this baby a test. I also use a green corrector, by NYX, this one did not come close to comparing to the NYX one, but the peach one isn't too bad. Can anyone tell me what the pink one is used for?

Cool Bronzer:

ELF Description:
Cool Bronzer- The ideal selection of matte colors to achieve a natural looking tan. Ideal for winter or year-round.

I LOVE this baby! Again tried to swatch it and it ended up just looking like a skin rash lol. This is a great matte bronzer. You can use some of the colors on their own as contour shades, or blend all four shades together and put it where the sun naturally hits. I'm really loving this bronzer.

A Healthier Me-Week 4

So, again no picture. Does any one have a Kodak Easy Share camera? I'm having some serious issues here!

This morning the scale said 121.6-Boooo! Do I consider 2 ounces a tragedy? No..but I do consider not losing anymore weight a tragedy!

I'm unfortunately someone who lacks a lot of motivation and am looking for a more structured approach to weight loss, exercise and eating better for my health. I'm debating between a meal replacement (shake) approach or an online system like Shape's or Self Magazine's. Your gals thoughts?

Positive highlights of the week:

-Snuck in minute bursts of energy everywhere I could. I'm the first one in my office and most people take their sweet time coming in, so I'd get up and do jumping jacks or punches. I'm also working around at lunch. Reading a book or chatting on the cell isn't nearly as productive as walking around campus.
-Didn't stop snacking, but now have low cal snacks in place-Skinny Cow ice cream bars-80 cals, 100 cal popcorn snacks, fruits and string cheese!

-I don't work out on the weekends, except Sunday night. I can use Friday and Saturdays to sneak in some exercise, especially when my boyfriend has the Wii fit.
-Kind of stalled on trying new foods and recipes- gotta get back on that!

Review- Elf Studio Line Single Shadows and Blushes

In my previous post I mentioned that I purchased some of the new Elf Studio Line single shadows and blushes. The shadows can be seen here and the blushes here.

I got the shadows in Charcoal, a shimmery dark grey/black olor and Amethyst, a deep purple.


I tried every flash option and lighting option to truly capture the color and to no avail. It is not as dark as it appears on the site, but it's still a gorgeous deep purple color. It looks a lot more shimmery in the package then on the skin. It's a beautiful color to use with a purple smokey eye.


This photographs a lot more brown then it really is. It's a deep grey color, that has brown and silver undertones. I know, that sounds weird. It's just a very multidimensional color. Great to use with a smokey eye.

The blushes I purchased were Candid Coral and Peachy Keen.

Candid Coral:

This is a really pretty color in the package, but unfortunately just swatches as a light flush of color with tons of shimmer.

Peachy Keen:

This is definitely not a peach color, but you can tell that by the photo supplied by ELF. It's more of a bronzey color and it's quite pretty. This one has a bit more pigmention than the previous blush and gives of a sheen really, instead of an intense shimmery.

Hello lovelies! Last week I twittered about a 75% off coup code for the Elf Studio Line. Well, I totally took advantage of it! I got $52 worth of stuff for less than $22 with shipping! I got a couple of back up items for some previously ordered item that are just LOVE! (Complexion brush, eyebrow kit and undereye concealer) and then quite a few new items!

Review- Mark Travel Brush Set

Before I left for Cape Cod I wanted to purchase a travel brush set. I wanted something small and simple that after vaca I could just throw in my purse. When I go to Cape Cod I'm a complete bum so I really wanted the simplest of the simplest. I purchased the Mark "Go with the Pro Mini Brush Kit". Info here.

The brush kit comes with the little brush holder and a powder brush, eye shadow brush, eye liner brush, concealer brush and lip brush.

First of all, when they say mini, they mean MINI. This thing is super, super tiny! This is not for serious make up application.

Honestly, this brush was kind of pointless for me. I don't wear a lot of powder, and I use a puff if I do. I was hoping to use this as a bronzer or blush brush, but it's just too tightly packed and dense. I ended up having two stripes of blush on my cheeks. If you wear powder regularly and apply with a brush, then this is A-ok.

Concealer brush:

This little guy got the job done. I was impressed with the quality of this brush. The concealer brush I normally use is one by BE, and this was similar to it. It gets into tight corners and is stiff enough to blend out well.

Eye Shadow Brush:

This guy was a little scratchy, but none the less, get the job done as well. It was stiff enough to pack on shadow, and lightly blend it out. I wouldn't call this a "do it all" brush by any means, but if you're doing a simple wash of color, it works.

My photo editing program decided to stop working, so the next two products will be done sans photos :(

This little guy was awesome. Stiff enough to make a nice shadow line on the upper or lower lash line.

Lip brush:
Again, pointless to me. I'm a gloss and go kinda gal. I'll keep it in there just because this tiny set will look naked with out it lol.

Book Review-The Everything Personal Finance Book

I feel like as I'm moving out on my own I should get a better grasp of the whole "personal finance" concept. Living with my parents I haven't had to worry about a lot of budgeting and such. I had my bills to pay, but nothing compared to living on a fixed income with paying rent, groceries, utilities and the bills I currently pay now.

My boyfriend works in the finance biz and has a lot of books on personal finance, so I borrowed this book from him:

Honestly, the book is a lot of common sense information. The only area I really learned something was about 401K's and IRA's. If you have no idea about budgeting, savings options, mortgages, loans, etc. than this is a really good basic book, other than that though, skip it.

A Healthier Me-Week 3

So again no pic this morning. I took a pic on my phone, but you can't even see the numbers, only the outline of the scale and my green toes! However, this morning's number read 121.4 pounds! I was excited, but a bit skepical, since I usually weigh myself in the evening and this is the first time I weighed myself in the morning. I read in a magazine that our weight can fluctuate with in the same four pounds on a daily basis. Howver, just to make myself feel better I will take it as a weight loss!

This weeks high points:
-Staring to making wiser decisions-if I don't feel like working out, I'll still do jumping jacks, lunges, crunches, etc.
-Back on a normal eating schedule since I'm done with vacation and classes
-After reading an article in Glamour, I'm making more of an attempt to notice my posture and correct it- I have absolutely terribly posture!

This weeks low point:
-Snacking too much! I have my breakfast at around 7 am, an apple sauce by 10:30, lunch at noon, a snack (100 cal popcorn or strawberries) at around 3:30 and then a snack after dinner..I need to start making meals that fill me up a bit more!
-Using the heat as an excuse not to work out as hard or as much as I should
-Not wearing sneakers while doing said jumping jacks-OMG my legs hurt!

Next weeks goal:
I'm reading a book by Jillian Michaels (which I hate and all ready sold on but one point I liked a lot. If you eat a balanced diet and stay within a healthy range of calories for your weight, you have to spend a max of 5 hours a week working out to see results. When I think of 5 hours at a time, I'm like OMG that's insane, but there are 168 hours in a week. Granted I spend around 56-60 of those hours sleeping, but still that leaves a lot of time. I have a lot of times to slip in some physical activity-whether at lunch, or during commercials of my shows or whatever. I'm going to try to stick to 5 hours of physical activity next week and keep track of every minute!

A Wardrobe Necessity

I hate ironing. I really do. I let a pile of clothes stack up in my closet that need to be ironed. Something I don't mind nearly as much as ironing? Steaming. Right after college my boyfriend bought this massive clothes steamer to use on his work clothes every day. I didn't want one so big, so I tried out this lil' fella.

I've had this for a couple of weeks and I just love it. I really think this is an item every woman (and man!) need in their wardrobe. It takes half off the time of ironing and instead of ironing out a stack of clothes each weekend or whatever, u can steam your outfit right before you put it on.

It takes less than a minute to heat up and I'm able to get one whole outfit plus out of one "tank" of water. If you don't want to purchase a big steamer or want something a little bit more portable, than this is for you. This also makes steaming curtains a lot easier since it's so lightweight.

-A variety of colors (I got the blue one!)
-Heats up very quickly
-Gets the job done
-Works great for clothes, upholstery and curtains

-Tiny, you have to refill often if you're doing a big job

I'm a future Southern Belle

Hello lovelies! I feel like I'm stealing Kendall's thunder here, but guess what? I too am moving to Atlanta! Who knew Atlanta was such a hot spot these days, huh?

My boyfriend's company was going to be moving him come Septembmer. For weeks it was between Atlanta (where he lived for a year) or Chicago (where we've never been). After doing research on both of them I was excited for either choice. Well, last Monday it became official that ATL will be our new home.

Jason will be moving in a couple of weeks :(, but I have to finish my master's degree so I won't be joining him until January. I'm excited/terrified. I'm a total Daddy's girl and it feels weird to be so far away from him.

I'm so excited that Kendall is moving there. It's nice to know that I have a friend down there all ready considering she will be the ONLY person I know lol. She always wants to live in the same neighborhood that we are moving to, which is Dunwoody.

I'm back!

Hello lovelies! I'm finally back to regular posting! I just got back from my mini-vacation to Cape Cod yesterday. If you're a North East gal you have to get to Cape Cod. It's just a completely different mind set there. You actually feel like you are on vacation when you're there. My Grandma lives there and I love going to visit her because I always feel like a kid again when I'm there.

So it's been 2 weeks since my first weight loss post. I don't have a pic of the scale today, since I took my weight this morning while running out the door for work, but I'm actually happy to say that it's 126. Do I consider this a weight loss? NO! But after one week of having my "visitor" and then one week with my Grandma feeding me everything in site, I'm pretty damn happy.

I ate A LOT at my Grandma's, but I guess the difference was that I was always up and moving as opposed to sitting at a desk all day. This week I'm back on track! I have no excuses- no cramps, no cravings and no Grandma induced meals lol.

Unfortunately, I don't have many positives about the past 2 weeks. I guess my only positive is that Ive been trying new foods thanks to Bia and her vegeterian outlook. Normally when I look for recipes they all involve chicken, she has gotten me to look at recipes that include flavors and ingredients I would have never even thought of.

Umm! Need I list them? Eating like a pig and not working out regularly!

11 Things That Make Me Happy Tag

My Jersey love Tammy tagged me on her blog for 11 Things That Make Me Happy!

1. I'm stealing her number one answer- it's Cape Cod!

I've been going there since the womb and have continued to go every summer. The water is always freezing and always full of seaweed, but it's just something about being there that equals instant relaxation. Everywhere you go, you can smell the salt water and there's sand everywhere. Being there really feels like a vacation.

2. My family and friends
This is a give in I know. My family and friends, mostly family, drive me insane, like beyond insane. However, in just 5 months I'll be moving away from them for the first time (other than college) and I get panic attacks just thinking about it.

3. My boyfriend
Also, a give in, I know. We've been together for almost five years and I don't think it's possible for someone to be in love with someone more than I am with him. We've done so many things together all ready and gone on so many trips and adventures just the two of us. He gets along with all of my loco friends and tolerates my loco family lol. He even walks my dog :)

4. My dog!
Honestly, no one is as happy when I walk in the door as my dog is. It's like I haven't seen him in a million years. When I'm having a bad day, all I have to do is walk in the door and I'm instantly in a better mood!

5. Barnes and Nobles
I LIVE for Barnes and Nobles lol. I mean, I could spend an entire day in there and have a fabulous time. From the books, to the magazines, to the journals, and the additions of Starbucks- give me a comfy chair and I'm good to go.

6. New York City
I'm a New York girl through and through. When I get mad, Jason tells me I sound exactly like Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny! LoL..As soon as I step off the express bus or into Grand Central, I just take in the rush of the city and I automatically start walking faster (you have to!). From the food, to the sites, to the people. Nothing can compare to NYC.

7. Babies
I love looking at babies, holding babies, thinking about babies. No I'm not ready for a baby of my own, this is only other people's babies lol. With babies every little progression is a huge deal, I think that it should always be that way!

8. My sports teams
Even though my baseball team-the Mets-are doing horrible, I live and love for my sports teams. I've been a Mets fan as long as I've been going to Cape Cod and was the only Mets fan in my high school. I took great pride listening to all of the Yankees fans tease me and then have a few of those fans all of a sudden root for the Mets when they did well. Worst or first-I'm always there. My other sports love is Penn State. For four years I was there, I didn't miss a game, even with a looming case of mono. Honestly, I've been to a Mets/Yankees World Series game and it doesn't compare to a regular home game at Beaver Stadium. <3

9. Online shopping
Online shopping, or online window shopping, has saved me from many a bored day at work. With the discovery of Ebates last year, I did almost ALL of my Christmas shopping online. It is just the best idea ever. God Bless Ebates and coupon code searches lol.

10. Make up sites, Youtube and you!
It is honestly sites like, beauty blogs and youtube that got me into make up big time and encouraged me to start a blog of my own. I love this blogger community and I watch at least one beauty you tube vid every single day-I kid you not. I love you gals (and guys) even if you make me spend money lol!

11. Beauty mags, Fashion mags and gossip rags
Honestly, between all the textbooks for my class, the stuff to read at work and even a good book I'm into, the brain needs a break. That's where the abundance of my mag subscriptions come into play. Sometimes I just need some mindless reading.

A Healthier Mel-Pesto Pizza

So my week one did not start off well. This was NOT the right week to start because i feel like absolute crap. I want to do nothing but SLEEP. So I hate to say, I failed massively all ready, I didn't work out last night! Instead of friend Bia and I made dinner and watched The Hills. Epic fail! LoL..However, dinner was NOT an epic fail, in fact it was amazingly delicious. We made pesto pizza.

Recipe from

2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons sun-dried tomato pesto
1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
1 unbaked pizza crust
1 tomato, sliced
1 bunch fresh spinach, torn
1 sweet onion, sliced
1 fresh jalapeno pepper, chopped
1 (6 ounce) package feta cheese, crumbled

Preheat oven according to pizza crust package directions.
In a small bowl combine butter, olive oil, garlic, pesto, basil, oregano and Parmesan cheese. Spread mixture evenly on pizza crust.
Arrange tomato, spinach, onion and jalapeno on pizza. Top with crumbled feta cheese.
Bake according to pizza crust package directions.

We altered the recipe a tiny bit. I'm quite bland in my veggie choices so we opted out of the jalapenos and onions. Also, my friend Bia all ready had a jar of regular basil pesto. So instead we bought sun dried tomatoes, chopped them and threw them in the pre-made pesto.

This pizza was s0o0o amazingly delicious. You must love garlic with this recipe though lol. It's all about the garlic. The best tip with this recipe is that don't judge the pizza's done-ness by the melting of the cheese. Good thing Bia was there, because I didn't know that feta doesn't really melt lol.

A Healthy Mel?

So here it is-entry one in my new series "A Healthier Me" (I was lacking on the originality of the title-shush!). I've always considered myself thin. Recently however, I reached my highest weight of 126, ok 126.4 to be exact. To me, this is just too much. I still fit in my clothes and all, but I just don't feel healthy. I can't go a day with out my diet coke and I can barely walk across campus while holding a convo with out being a little out of breath. I'm 24! This should not be happening. So recently my friend Bia suggested I work out with her on Mondays, Wed. and Fridays. I jumped at the idea, because I honestly need to be forced to work out. She is also making the cold turkey (no pun intended) transition to becoming a vegetarian and I thought since I'd be eating with her I'd might as well support her and have meat free meals on these days as well. So here I am..every Sunday I'll be making a post summarizing my week and how my efforts are paying off. What a moron I am though to start this little experiment on the week of my monthly visitor and the week before I leave for vaca! LoL So this weeks update will be on Friday instead of Sunday. I'll also be posting any recipes that I try out with Bia during the week. Ok on to the deets:

This weeks goal:
Stick to work out plan!

Even though this is personal, I plan to keep it on the fabulously thrifty path. By avoiding pricey gyms and pricey diet plans, I plan to prove that you can lose weight and become healthier by using dvds, home gym set ups, the great out doors, and fresh and affordable ingredients!
