XoXo You know You Love Me

This is my entry for Mona'sGossip Girl contest. My fave style icon on that show is totally Blair, but Little J has that Hell's Kitchen/Union Square/Punk edge that I just wish I could pull off. I had fun with this contest, but I also HATE pics of just myself, so it was akward at the same time. I had a killer little J outfit, but propping my camera up on random things in my living room to take a full body shot just didn't work lol.

You obviously can't tell from this shot, but I'm wearing a red origami dress from F21 and the cropped jacket is from Guess.

Don't mind my serious cheese, I hate serious face shots lol. I'm wearing:
Foundation: Revlon Colorstay
Concealer: Revlon Colorstay
Under-eye concealer: NYX Concealer in a Jar
Blush: NYX Peach and Blonde MSF
Highlighter: Vaseline
Lips: Vaseline
Eyes: ELF cream shadow in black licorice
NYX shadow in Black
NYX shadow in Egypt in crease
Vaseline to give it a glazed look
Mascara: Avon Supershock
Liner: Mac Kohl liner in black

Ahhh...serious face!

Jenny's hair seems unkept to me sometimes lol, so I just rubbed some styling wax through random strands and pushed my bangs back to give me a little spike on top of my head. I have heavy Jenny bangs but it was raining and they just WERE NOT cooperating.

I wanted to include a pic of my booties because I think they are very Little J. lol

Conair Infiniti Professional Tourmaline Ionic Hair Dryer with Brush-Review

I've been on the look out for a good blow dryer lately. When I saw this on HSN, I thought I'd give it a try. I've always been kind of interested in this dryer because when it comes to yielding a round brush and a blow dryer at the same time, I'm just completely incapable of doing it!

Product: Conair Infiniti Professional Tourmaline Ionic Hair Dryer with Brush
Where to buy: HSN, Conair.com,Infomercial
Price: $60 at HSN with free shipping
Includes: Blow dryer, brush attachment, nozzle attachment, diffuser attatchment, ionic brush, travel bag
Claims to:
Get silky, shiny salon results at home with the Conair Infiniti Professional Tourmaline Ionic Hair Dryer with Brush. It's Tourmaline Ceramic Technology dries hair faster and more gently and the included straightening attachments straighten, shine and detangle all at once.

Review:
Now I don't have thick hair, but I do happen to have tons of thin hair. I followed the directions by first pre-drying my hair using the nozzle attachment and then seperating my hair into smaller sections to use the brush attachment. I sectioned off my hair and started drying using the little brush attachment thing. My hair come out surprisingly straight and smooth and I didn't get that scary looking thing tangled in my hair once. HOWEVER, this thing took FOREVER to dry my hair. It claims to dry my hair faster? No, I don't think so! My arm kept getting so tired (maybe that's a good thing? Built in tricepts work out?).

Overall:
This will not be my every day blow dryer, and I'm still not sure I'm going to keep it. However, the smooth results were a positive as I usually have to blow dry my hair and use a flat iron to achieve these results. I wonder if this attachment will fit on other blow dryers? Hmmm....

Giving Back

I spend a lot of money on myself. Yes I work hard and yes, sometimes I even deserve it. But there are times when giving to others just seems so much sweeter.

I was lucky enough to be involved in an event called THON when I was attending Penn State. To me, there was nothing more amazing than Thon. Thon is the world's largest student run philanthropy event. It's a 46 hour dance marathon to raise money for children with cancer. The dancers aren't allowed to sit or sleep for those 46 hours. To be a witness to that, it's truly amazing. Last year the Penn State and Thon community raised over $6 million!!

Why am I telling you this? Doing good for others doesn't help just them, it helps us too. Looking around I realize how lucky I am and I should be helping others out who aren't as lucky. If this means forking over some cash or some time, I think we should all indulge this weekend.

Thon is this weekend and I'm s0o sad not to be going. If you want to see something truly amazing, visit the site over the weekend to watch some live feed.
So donate, it doesn't have to be to Thon (ok, but you should lol) just donate anything you have to give, money, time, old clothes, old books, whatever. Trust me, you will feel tons better.

Home Gym-Denise Austin Bootcamp

So, the next entry into my series of a "home gym" experience is a DVD by Denise Austin, called, Denise Austin Bootcamp-Total Body Blast.

I purchased this for $8.99 from Amazon.com. The description supplied by Amazon is:
In BOOT CAMP: TOTAL BODY BLAST, your personal drill sergeant Denise Austin will transform your body into a fat-burning furnace with dynamic intervals of punches, kicks, and power drills! Banish flab, burn mega calories and sculpt a champion body with Denise's unique blend of cardio, strength training and FUN! The DVD includes: CARDIO BOOT CAMP: Blast into shape with this 20-minute, high-energy workout that interchanges short bursts of cardio with longer workout periods that combine kickboxing, sports drills and calorie-crunching calisthenics! STRENGTH BOOT CAMP: Experience another level of interval training with this explosive, 20-minute workout that alternates strengthening exercises (using hand weights) with heart-pounding cardio boosts to incinerate fat and keep your heart-rate soaring! FLEXIBILITY: Look and feel better than ever with this 10-minute series of active, isolated, stretching moves and techniques designed to improve your posture, flexibility and overall athletic performance!

Let me start with this blatant truth, I hated this dvd. I don't know if it was Denise Austin's incessant chatter and excitement, or the fact that it reminded me of a difficult Sweatin' to the Oldies. I like to consider myself a decently rhythmed person, but I couldn't keep up with these ridicolous moves.

Ease of use: 2 out of 5 dumbells
Sweat factor: 3 out of 5 dumbells *most of it came from frustration*
Host factor: 0 out of 5 dumbells
Price: 5 out of 5 dumbells
Effectiveness: I don't know, I don't plan on ever using it again lol

Red Tag Crazy

I am now addicted to Red Tag Crazy. What is it? It's kind of a sample sale and ebay rolled into one. Only the prices are a bit better than most online sample sales.

Every hour they feature a certain amount of one designer item. Yesterday they had DVB skinnies (Posh's denim line) for under $60! If the item sells out, than that's it, but if not it comes back later in the day or within a few days.

If you want to order something, but are worried that you'll end up ordering something else in a couple of hours and don't want to pay 2x the shipping, they can "hold" your order until you feel satisfied that you want everything shipped.

I have a "ticker" on my blog now which will display the product every hour. You can also get alerts on twitter, your iphone, IM, facebook, and Myspace. They really don't want you missing out on any bargains!

Click on the link and order something from my page and we each get $5!

Sonia Kashuk Gold Glamour Brush Set Review

I'm in desperate need of some decent make up brushes. A lot of the reviews I've read say that Sonia Kashuk brushes are pretty good and pretty budget friendly. I was really excited when I went into Target last week and saw a Sonia Kashuk gold brush set on sale for $14! It came with 6 brushes: Blush, Concealer, Eyeshadow Brush, Blending brush, lip brush (i think?) and one of those lash comb/brush thingies. I know sets aren't always the same quality as those brushes that you can buy individually, but I thought this way was a good way to test it out. Please, I loved the gawdy gold. I think Carrie would title this as "ghetto gold". :)

Any who, on to the review!

Angled Liner Brush

This brush is my fave of the bunch. The bristles are hard enough to get a straight line, but not to tug on my lid. This one washed up really nicely as well. If you're looking for a thin line or a thicker line, this brush worked really well. However, I've only used with eyeshadow to line my eyes, not sure how well it would work with a cream liner. I'll have to test that out soon!

Blender Brush

This brush was pretty dissapointing. It reminded me of the original ELF blending brushes. It was scratchy, shed a bit with it's first washing and I just didn't like it. It did blend well, but it was so uncomfortable to use.

Blush Brush

If I were to give this brush a test grade, it would be 85%. I liked, didn't love it. I currently use the Bare Minerals angled blush brush and just love it. It doesn't shed, it helps me with applying countor, highlight and regular blush. This blush brush, I would only use for blush. All though it's smaller than the typical blush brush, it fits perfectly for the apples of my cheeks. This shed minimally and wasn't super soft, but wasn't scratchy either.

Concealer Brush

This concealer brush was pretty decent. It's quite tiny so it helps me get concealer under my lash line, in the corner of my eye and around my nose. However, it's pretty useless for covering blemishes. I'd also use this to apply color to the inner tear duct. The bristles are soft and this reminds me of a tiny version of my Bare Minerals concealer brush.

Lip Brush

I'm not a big lip brush fan, so I'm assuming this is a lip brush. However, I use it to fill in my eyebrows and it's pretty perfect for doing that. The bristles are short and tapered and stiff enough to fill in my brows properly. I have no idea how this would work as a lip brush lol.

Eyeshadow Brush

This brush I was also on the fence with. All though it's soft and only shed minimally during it's first wash, it was so similar to my ELF Eyeshadow Brush. I LOVE my Elf brush, it packs on color well and is surprisingly soft. So I do love this brush, but I'd rather stock up on my $1 ELF Brushes.

..And here's the cute little case it came with. I'll be using it as a giant eyeglass case LoL.

Overall, I'm glad I bought this. It's a good way to try out some brushes. Even though I wasn't overly impressed, I will still try more Sonia Kashuk brushes. I really want to try the angled liner brush that everyone is lemming over, and the stippling brush.
The negatives of this set were the inconsistencies in the quality. Some of the brushes were great and others just sucked. Also, the gold is cute, but I've used them like twice and they are covered in finger prints. That drives me loco!

Valentine's Day-Cash blow out or super saving?

I'm still on the fence on how I feel about Valentine's Day. For one thing, I love all things theme-y (I'm too much like Bridget from Girls Next Door), on the other hand, shouldn't we be expressing our love every day? Should there really be a special day carved out just to let someone know that you love them? To me, I think we should call that, I dunno, Monday instead.

However, my boyfriend and I do "celebrate" it, but we normally celebrate it very cheaply. With November being our anniversary, December Christmas, January my birthday, there is just no money left by February for a big blow out.

This year, we are doing gifts $20 and under and from the heart. I plan on making him something, but I expect to get either something completely store bought or two popsicle sticks glued together haha.

There are tons of little items out there that can let a person know you love them. They don't even have to be Valentine's themed (come on, what guys love Valentine's themed stuff?).

Gift ideas for guys under $20:

-Magazine subscription
-Bake him something! All guys love cookies.
-A framed photo of you two (silver or black frames only, no hearts or mention of love lol)
-Baseball season is around the corner- get him a shirt of his fave team
-Anything he buys himself all the time but hates doing, get him his deodorant, body wash and face wash and throw it in a cute basket
-A manicure..yes I said a manicure..by this time in the winter, guys hands are TERRIBLE
-Tickets to a movie of his choice
-Something for his pet
-My fave- a book of home made love coupons, mine range from "One viewing of Super Troopers" (I HATE that movie) to naughtier stuff
-Have business cards made for him

There's an endless aray of things you can do or buy for your boyfriend that don't include breaking the bank. To me, any of these gifts on a day OTHER than Valentine's Day, would be much more meaningful.

What do you gals plan on doing with your guy for the V-Day?

Steal Their Style-2009 Grammys

This year the Grammys was full of more drama than usual. From Jennifer Hudson's beautiful acceptance speech and tear jerking performance, to M.I.A.'s performance on her due date (she was awesome!), to the negative drama of Chris Brown and Rihanna. Despite all of the drama though, the fashionistas were out in full force.

Here's my interpretation, more affordable interpretation, of my fave 3 looks of the night.

Jennifer Hudson Grammy Look
Jennifer Hudson Grammy Look - by Melziebabee on Polyvore.com

I know people were on the fence about this origami inspired dress, but I loveeeeed it! This total look is under $300. Her shoes probably cost more than that.

Carrie Underwood Grammys
Carrie Underwood Grammys - by Melziebabee on Polyvore.com

Even though I wasn't wild about the fit of this dress on Carrie, I thought she still looked a golden goddess. I couldn't find an affordable dress with all of the detailing and bead work, but this dress can be dressed up with splashier gold accessories such as the gold croc clutch. I went with a pump instead of a sandal, because I thought a gold sandal might be overkil. This look is less than $200!

Kate Beckinsale Grammys
Kate Beckinsale Grammys - by Melziebabee on Polyvore.com

Kate Beckinsale can really do no wrong in my book. She is absolutely, gorgeously, stunning! Even though I think she was a bit overdressed for the Grammys, I ADORED this dress. I searched everywhere for an affordable alternative, and couldn't come up with anything close. Instead, I opted for a navy trumpeted gown. The shape is the same with out being as dramatic and navy can work on just as many skintones as black. This look is also under $200!
