Love Hate Survey

LIPS

*LOVE*
Mac's TLC in Pink Fish. It's one of the few Mac items I own (I know! I know!) and I just love it. It feels really creamy, smells delish, and gives my lips a pretty pink color.

*HATE*

Lipliners..I hate all lipliners. I have yet to find a creamy one that doesn't feel like a real damn pencil on my lips.

FACE

*LOVE*
Avon's Magix primer. I Looooove this stuff. I love the way it feels, the way it smells, the way it minimizes my poors, everything. I don't get oily really, so I don't know how effective it is in terms of that, but for my somtimes dry skin, it works perfectly.

*HATE*

Super shimmery bronzers-Just because I want to look tan, doesn't mean I want to look like a disco ball. Since when did the two become synonymous?

HAIR

*LOVE*
Blair inspired headbands from F21. Since Gossip Girl has debuted, I have become a crazy headband person. I love headbands, bows, skinny headbands, fat headbands, anything. The only problem is, I get migraines at the drop of a hat, so I need super loose headbands. Fortunately, F21 provides me with plenty of fab ones, at even better prices.

*HATE*
Crunchy hair..With so many curling products out there, why is there still the need to have crunchy hair?

EYES

*LOVE*
Benefit Creaseless Liner/Shadows. I got two of these in my Girls Night Out Kit and I really, really like them for bases, even though they do crease a bit. They provide me with a nice, shimmery and just the tiniest bit tacky base.

*HATE*

How deep set my eyes are..I can add half a compact for color and u can still barely notice it!

BODY

*LOVE*

Gradual self tanners..Currently I'm alternativing between Ulta Brands gradual body and face tanners and Jergens 3 day gradual body tanner.

*HATE*

Orange self-tanners-Yes, Lindsay Lohan-I mean you!!

I'm tagging my luvies:
Diana
Tammy
Kendall

And anyone else who wants to fill this out!

Jackie O Style

I was browsing the small style section of my local ibrary last week and came across a book by Lloyd Boston called "Before you Put That On".

The book has 365 daily style tips. A lot of the ideas were nothing revolutionary, but some were inspiring and some just wanted to make me go shopping and learn how to tailor my own clothes ASAP. There were a lot of interviews in the book with stylits and designers. Almnost every person from Tommy Hilfiger to Rachel Zoe said they regularly took style inspiration from Jackie O and definitely feel that she's their fashion icon.

As someone who has always had a fascination with the Kennedys, I've always loved Jackie O's style. I spend my summers on Cape Cod (where the Kennedy family still vacations) and 9 out of 10 women try to emulate Jackie's style exactly.

While Marilyn might have had the glamour, it was Jackie that had the class. Designers continue, season after season, to re-produce Jackie's looks and women, season after season, continue to buy the staples that she MADE staples.

I googled some pics of Jackie, and these were my favorite in terms of her classic style:

Here are some pieces I found around the web, that just SCREAM Jackie. They are pefect fo that effortless summer in Nantucket look.

Jackie stuck with very simple silhouettes and very simple colors and patterns. The busiest pattern I saw her wear was a tiny floral, even through the mod 60s and disco 70s. If you stick with a simple silhouette, you can look at pics of yourself in 30 years and still want to wear those items today. Jackie never was trendy, actually, she started the trends.

What to look for:
-Clean simple lines
-Close fitting, tailored pieces
-Basic colors and neutrals
-Versatile pieces-day to night, season to season

Her tops and pants, were the same simple, classic style as her dresses and skirts. Of all the pics I looked at, Jackie alwaysh had a simple blouse or top and it was always crewneck. Again, the clothing fit close to her body with out being tight.

What to look for:
-Crewnecks in basic colors and neutrals
-Nautical inspired looks, with out being "themey"
-Tops with stretch in them

Honestly, when it comes to Jackie O, does it get more fabulous than those big, black sunglasses? Jackie made them famous over 40 years ago, and we still continue to lust over them. The perfect big pair of black sunglasses you can take you from drab to fab in a second. Also, no outfit is complete with out a basic pair of pearl earrings. I never saw Jackie wear a lot of high heels, she mainly stuck with comfy flats and her fave accessory besides the sunnies and pearls? A perfect scarf!

How to Go Green-on the cheap

It seems like everywhere you turn today people are talking about "going green". Going green though, can sometimes be a bit on the pricey side. Organic apples cost more than regular ol' apples, natural skincare costs more than regular skincare, bamboo sheets cost more than cotton sheets. However, if you look around your apartment or house, there are plenty of ways to go green and not blow your green (like my lil' pun there?)

-Switch to those weird looking lightbulbs!
By switching to energy efficient lightbulbs you can save up to $45 a year on your electric bill. Oh, and they last 8 times longer than traditional bulbs. So while they may be a bit pricier to purchase, the savings will really benefit you in the long run.

-Buy a power strip. I recently read that our charges (phone, laptop, ipod, whatever) use electiricity even when we aren't charging something! So buy a power strip and plug all of your chargers into one and turn it off at night. That way you're not wasting electricity and running up your bill.

-Forgot snack sizes or 100 calorie packs-make your own! This one is one of my fave tips. Snack sizes and 100 calorie sizes are always more expensive than the big ol' big of chips or package of cookies. Don't be lazy-make your own. Buy that big back of tortilla chips, look at the label on the back and scoop out your own serving size into re-usable snack bags or tupperware containers. Saving cash and saving all that packaging=a good combo!

-Do the same for hair products and body care products. If you belong to a Sams Club or wholesale club, knows someone who does or even have a beauty care supply shop by you-it pays to buy those jumbo sizes of your fave products. At my local Sams I buy my shampoo, conditione, body wash and razor blade cartridges by bulk and save a lot of money if I was to buy them individually. Instead of lugging around that huge bottle of shampoo, I buy pretty bottles from the Container Store and put some in that. Beautifying the earth and my shower!

-Get a green thumb-grow your own herbs (or veggies if you have the space). I live in an apartment so I don't have a lot of grass to utilize to grow veggies, but I do have herbs growing in individual pots. Herbs are expensive, and fresh herbs are even more expensive. By growing my own I get yummy dishes and save some cash. I mean sad packets are only like 60 cents or something!

-Buy a Brita and a BPA-free water bottle. Seriously? How much money do we spend on bottled water? Something that is given to us for free! I know tap can taste nasty, I agree, I'm a water snob. I bought a Brita pitcher and a water bottle and now I have fresh water with out all of the waste of plastic bottles everywhere. The initial $30 investment has all ready saved me about $30 and that's only in one month.

These are just a few of the easiest and cheapest tips on how to "go green". If you search around the internet you will find tons more. It's really easy to make a few simple adjustments and know that you're saving cash and the planet. There's no reason why we all shouldn't be making one or two simple changes.

June's My Pretty Pink Box

I just have to say, June's My Pretty Pink Box has been my fave to date!

Le Baby hair gel. A gel made specifically for lil' kiddies or those of us with sensitive skin.

Julie Hewitt Femme Noir lipliner. This liner is a total Marilyn red. Maybe it'll help me get over my instilled fear of red lips. It's so creamy!

Mark shimmer gel blush. This is one of the hook up lines' blush and it's a really shimmery berry color-perfect for travel and on the go!

Silk Naturals full size lipgloss and shadow sample. The lipgloss was too dark for me, so I gave it to my boss, but i love the eyeshadow sample. It's a creamy hot cocoa like brown. Perfect for a brown smoky eye.

Rosalyn Scent sample of warm vanilla sugar. Warm vanilla sugar is my FAVE BB&W scent and this is a dead ringer. I put drops of this on my lightbulbs over my bed so the heat from the bulb difuses the scent around my room and makes me hungry :)

Sexy Hair's Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal drops. It's kind of like Paul Mitchell's super skinny serum, but super organic. I tried it yesterday and it feels like a dream. Best part is that you only need a tiny drop, so this baby will last me a while.

I also got some other items that just didn't photograph well. A pair of Pink dangly earrings from Houston Godly Creations and a coup for a free full sized mineral founation from Mineral Hygienics this is really an amazing deal because the foundation was $25! I only had to pay the $5.95 shipping. Stay tuned for some reviews....

June Style Challenge-Catching up

I've been taking pics of my June style challenge the past couple of days, and never got around to posting them until now.

Black and Pearls

I decided to take the black and pearls to a funky and casual level. Pearls don't always have to be dressed up and stuffy, it all depends on what you pair them with.

Pearl necklace-Gifted from Mamma

Home Decor on the Cheap

I don't know if I've said this before, but one of my life's dreams is to be a mini Martha Stewart (not as uptight!). I would love to have this beautiful show house where everything just comes together and has a story behind it. I'd love to be able to whip up a 5 course meal with just whatever I left in the fridge (which would include a fine cheese of course). I would love to make homemade Christmas decorations and cookies to match. Of course, I'm not Martha like. I can cook, but never really tried anything too difficult before, I can decorate, but only on a shoe string budget, and I can decorate but it has been limited to a dorm and an apartment ON a shoestring budget.

I love interior design. I love it so much so, that I subscribe to DIY magazines, HGTV newsletters and live by Candace Olsen and Design on a Dime. All of these things (with the exception of a Design on a Dime of course) are mucho expensive!!!

I've recently started getting DIY Magazine (for all of you wanna be Marthas out there, this mag is a necessity!) and last month they had this special insert from of all companies, styrofoam!

I'm looking for some cheapie home decor ideas since the boy and I are moving out soon, this was perfect for me!

I never knew styrofoam could look so chic and stylish. The project ideas included:

Disc Drama Wall Art

Memo Boards

Moss Spheres

And tons of variations of wall hangings

So if you're apartment, room, dorm, whatever is in need of some cheap sprucing up, this site is an amazing resource! Save up some Michaels coups, put aside a Saturday afternoon and bring out your inner Martha. Your apartmnet will thank you :)

June Style Challenge-Black and White

This was by far the EASIEST day of my June Style Challenge. Why? I'd say about 70% of my wardrobe is black and white. There was a time, as in a couple of weeks ago, that I was still terrified of color. I've slowly started to incorporate some color and patterns into my wardrobe. It'll be a slow process, but a process that I feel will pay off.

Again, sorry about the crappy darkness and quality of the pic. I'm working on it!

White top- Gap Outlet, $10
Capris-Same ol' Express ones from T.J. Maxx-I live in these!
Long necklace-F21-$3.80

Black and White has this way of instantly looking chic and put together. Even today for my outfit, which will be Belting It, I'm wearing black and white. I'll work on the color and pattern thing though.

Blogger Sale Directory

I love looking at people's blogger sales. Ok, I haven't actually purchased anything yet from one, but after looking at all these goodies, I totally plan on doing so! The prices are amazing and it's a little more reliable than ordering from a stranger on Ebay.

Thanks to Kalia-Thu, we now have a one stop beauty blogging sale directory.

http://beautyblogsaledirectory.blogspot.com/

Look at the site for some amazing deals, or email her if you want your own sale added to the list. Stay tuned for my own blogger sale coming up, including NYX and some designer handbags. WoOhOo!

June Style Challenge-Mix in some vintage

I have a few vintage pieces in my wardrobe, mostly accessories. A lot of them are costume jewelry which just aren't appropriate to going to work and then goin to the Salvation Army to tutor kids. So my mix in some vintage was limited to one piece on a student teaching appropriate outfit.

Blue-ish top-BR Outlet
White cami-F21
Black capris-Express a la TJ Maxx
Butterfly broch-vintage,gifted

I got this from a gift from one of the graduating students at my job and I just loved it. The colors make it really pop. Next time I think I'm going to wear it with a black shirt so the wings don't blend in as much.

Today, I'm wearing my easiest June style challenge-black and white :)

June Style Challenge-Yellow and purple

I don't know why I look so emo in this damn picture. I had a terrible class tonight, so I guess I carried over the bad mood of the weather. However, wearing such a bright color and such a unique color combo really cheered me up today. I even got two compliments on my outfit today from two of my co-workers. Needless to say, I'm quite pleased with the results of my Jue style challenge so far lol.

ELF Haul Reviw

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my recent tiny ELF haul. I've gotten to test the products out in the past few weeks and I have to say, that I'm quite pleasantly surprised by all of them.

Foundation Brush:

Purchase here
I LOVE this brush. This is the first foundation/complexion brush that I have ever used, so I don't have much to compare it to, except my fingers. I was very worried about it leaving brush marks, like on a painting or leave stray hairs all over my face. After washing this once, with only one hair shedding, it was perfect. It's super smooth and really blends the foundation seamlessly into the skin. The only place it's a bit difficult and blotchy is under my nose, I don't know why. Other than that it's perfection.
Rating: 5 out of 5
Price: $3.00
Would I buy again: Hell yes!

Powder Brush

Purchase here

This was another brush that I adored. The bristles are soft and super dense. I got it to use with mineral foundation, but I haven't worn mineral foundation in a while due to my obsession with my new Smashbox liquid stuff. So I use this to put on a light mineral powder after liquid foundation application. There was zero shedding and it really gives me a nice matte look in conjuction with my powder. I love it!
Rating: 5 out of 5
Price: $3.00
Would I buy again? YES!

Blush and Contour Palette

Purchase here

I had heard so many raves about this product and I was dissapointed. The color pay off is fantastic, but it's just not for me. The bronzer is too shimmery to be effective as a contour powder and just WAY too dark for me. I'm not a huge fan of the blush either, but if I use it with a highlighter brush it gives m chees a nice glow.
Rating: 2 out of 5
Price: $3.00
Would I Buy again? Probably not.

Eyebrow Kit (in medium)

Purchase here

I really like this product. Previous to this, I had never used a gel formula, only pencil and powder. The gel formula, set with the powder, makes a perfect shade for me and really helps to define my eyebrows and it makes me look more awake. I don't know why I didn't take a picture of the adorable lil' brush, because it works amazingly. This is perfect for everyday use and the brush makes it perfect for travel. Granted I haven't tried many eyebrow products, but this is definitely my HG so far.
Rating: 5 out of 5
Price: $3.00
Would I buy again? Most definitely!

June Style Challenge-Ruffles/Girly Girl

In my previous post I challenged myself to follow some of Kimberly's calendar of inspiration fashion ideas. Today it was ruffles/girly girl. I happen to love ruffles so this was an easy for me. This one and black and white are my easy ones, other than that, it may be a stretch for me lol.

White cami-F21-$2.50
Cream ruffle shirt-Target-$6 on clearance
Black capris-Express purchased at TJ Maxx-$15
Swarovski beaded bracelets-gifted
Silver cuff-Lord & Taylor-$22
Flower shoes-Target-$15

I printed out a list of the style inspirations above, so let's see what tomorrow brings me.

June Style Challenge

I complained a couple of months ago how much I hate my style and just think of it as being "blah". Unfortunately, that hasn't changed much yet. So I've decided to give myself a style challenge for the month of June (I know, I'm a few days behind).

Last month, Kimberly of Fab Finds Under $50 created a daily inspiration calendar, which helped guide her outfit choices for the month of May. I absolutely loved the idea, but I honestly didn't have clothes to make up half the outfits. She recently came out with her June calendar and with picking and choosing from both the May and June calendars I was able to come up with enough for the month. I'm not going to go week by week like hers (she even put it in Google calendar, how awesome is she?), but make myself a checklist of outfit inspirations to use through out the month.

Mel's June Style Challenge:
-Jewelry as the main focus
-Khaki Pants
-Black and pearls
-Flower Power
-Purple and Yellow
-A little vintage mixed in
-Short over long
-Maxi dress
-Patterned dress
-Tan and yellow
-Dress and scarf
-Ruffles
-Black and white
-Pattern mixing
-Bright colors and white
-Urban Safari Chic
-Black with a pop of red
-Add a scarf
-Belt it
-Polka dots and something else

I think this gives me enough to choose from for the month of June..I'm missing some of the stuff (pop of red, pattern mixing), but I all ready have some shopping lists made of what will fill those requirements. Oh yea, and this also means I'll be taking a pic every morning a la Kimberly. I can't guarantee they will be as clear and as in on focus, or posted every day, like hers, but they will be here!
