The delish way to snack healthily

I am an avid Hungry Girl reader. I love the newsletters and the cookbooks. Hungry Girl frequently preaches about Vitatops. After reading about these little treasures for at least a year, I decided to hunt them out locally and give them a try.

OMG- am I glad I did! Here are the nutritional info on these lil' gems:

This is a chocolate desert and it's only 100 calories and chock full of vitamins and minerals. For any ladies on Weight Watchers, this is only 1 point!

These are sold frozen and can be defrosted for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator or 12 seconds in the microwave. I always microwave these about 15 seconds to get it all gooey and chocolate-y. All of my local stores only seem to have the Deep Chocolate, Cranbran and Golden Corn flavors. I am DYING to try the PB flavor. I may order them online.

There is a store locator option to see if these are sold around you and in my grocery stores they are in the freezer sections in either the desert section or the "healthy" section. They are around $4.79 for 4.

I know this is kind of a random post, but it's almost summer and I need to get my ass back into shape, but I have ZERO willpower for sweets. This is portion controlled and chocolate- perfecto!

Hana Flat Iron Review and GIVEAWAY!!

I was contacted by Misikko.com to do a review of the Hana Flat Iron. I had never heard of Miskki.com prior to seeing them on a couple of YT vids. After being contacted by them I checked out their site and was pretty impressed. They offer a variety of high end hair appliances and an awesome selection of some of the best flat irons (Chi flat iron, FHI flat iron, GHD, T3, etc.) and some skin care items. I was also super excited to see that they sold Model in a Bottle Make Up Setting Spray that I've been dying to try!

After browsing around their site and doing some comparison shopping, the prices here are pretty FaB. I also really like their styling videos which includes how to choose the right flat iron (there are so many friggin choices) and how to care for your flat iron. The site is very thorough and all products are top quality.

The iron I was sent was by a brand named Hana. I had never heard of this brand before, so did a little research on it through Misikko.com. Here is the information about Hana:

Dedicated to high ceramic content and top of the line components, Hana's pursuit of high tech styling without hype led to the Hana Professional Flat Iron - Advanced Fusion Molding delivers glass-smooth ceramic-tourmaline plates while acccelerated negative ion output repairs hair follicles, sealing in natural oils for a conditioned, sleek, salon shine that lasts all day.

With professional features like damp-to-dry styling, floating plates that self adjust to different textures and adjustable temperature, the Hana Professional hair straightener is engineered to deliver luxury at a down to earth price.

Information about the iron itself:

Review:

I received the package in record speed. My order was placed on Monday, and by Wednesday it showed up at my door. This was exactly how it looked when I opened it:

Flowers, ribbons and all.

Packaging and bundle:

The packaging was perfect, it didn't seem like anything moved during transit! I received a bundle including a heat mat, a Hana storage pouch, a Misikko storage pouch (free with Hana purchase)a Hana ShineShield Thermal Protectant, and of course the 1 inch Hanna Professional Flat Iron in pink.

Straightening Power:
I'm terrible at styling my hair. I usually just blow dry my hair dry, not concentrating on really straightening or styling it. I usually use my flat iron to actually style my hair and straighten it. I took photos of my hair after it being blow dried to show the natural texture of my hair. Prior to blow drying my hair I used the Hana ShineShield Treatment as it protects against heat styling and UV exposure. While using the flat iron I used my Got2b heat protectant spray.

Before pics:

After pics:

I was really impressed with this flat iron. The heat goes up to 450 degrees. My hair is pretty thick and has a good amount of texture, but I wanted to start at a mid heat level, so I used the dial to put up to 230 degrees. I remember a vid by Pursebuzz where she was reviewing a flat iron. She said something about any flat iron can straighten hair, but a good flat iron works with only one pass over your hair to reduce heat damage. This did just that. After only one pass on a piece of hair, it was straight and more impressively, shiny! This was the quickest I've ever straightened my hair.

This iron is safe for damp to dry styling, but I don't recommend it. I left my bottom layer slightly damp after reading this to test it out. This was where I had to do several passes, so just blow dry fully before hand for the best results.

Another feature it has that I really like is the on/off light. When you turn it on the light is solid. When the iron reaches the desired temperature, the light begins to blink so you know it's ready to use!

Pros:
-The light feature- you know exactly when it's ready!
-Ceramic tourmaline, gave my hair MAJOR shine
-Can go up to 450 degrees for the curly girls out there
-Straightens in one pass

Cons:
-It's pink...I hate pink, but that's a personal thing lol
-It didn't eliminate all of my fly aways around my hairline which I hoped it would, but I think that's my hair, not the iron

Kids Say the Darndest Things

::Image from Google Images::

As some of you may know, I recently got my masters in education to be an elementary school teacher. I've been subbing frequently lately and that in combined with my student teaching experience has given me a lot of time around kids. Not only do I love my job, but the kids entertain me and really say the cutest and funniest things. I thought I'd post some of them to get myself in a good mood and hopefully you as well :)

* When I was planning on moving to Atlanta, one of my students overhead me saying this to another teacher. He then asked:
"Ms. L, since you're moving to Atlanta, does that make you an immigrant?"

*Election day at my school with the gym set up with the voting machines and two third grade girls looking down on the gym:
Girl 1: "I wonder what's going on down there."
Girl 2: "I saw a sign that said voting. I wonder what they are voting for."
GIrl 3: "I think it's American Idol."

*My second graders have to write sentences using their new vocabulary each week for homework. This was submitted in February for the word "believe"
"February is Black History Month. I believe White History Month is in March."

*After teaching cause and effect my second graders were given a homework assignment with effects and asked to write causes:
Worksheet- Effect: The leaves on the trees are brown
Cause submitted by a student: "Because the dog pooped on it."

*I had a student who had trouble paying attention. I went over to him and sternly pointed at his exam to get to work on it. Afterwards he came up to me and said:
"But Ms. L, I thought we were friends."

*After having trouble with other students on the bus one day, a student went up to my colleague and said:
Girl: Mrs. B, someone said the S-word on the bus.
Teacher: What do you mean? What did he say?
Girl whispering: He said shut up.

Spring Jewelry

Even though I am looking out my window and seeing nothing but dirty, day old snow..I have dreams of spring in the back of my mind and am all ready scouring my closet for those winter to spring transition looks. One way to start dressing for spring, not freeze your ass off, is through your jewelry. This winter was full of big, bold, statement necklaces. All though these big necklaces are still on the radar for spring, I prefer something a little more dainty to go with the freshness and newness of the season. Plus, having a heavy necklace that makes your neck sweat is not cute.

Bracelets and Cuffs

Two beaded bracelets-Gifts, Silver cuff- Lord & Taylor, Colored cuff- H&M

I really feel bracelets don't get enough attention. They can add a little sparkle to an otherwise boring area of the body, add a geometric shape to a flowy outfit or add a pop of color. I admit, I usually overdo it with bracelets. I like to go dainty on one wrist, like with the two beaded bracelets, and a cuff on the other wrist. Of course this is not everyone's style. For a softer look, go with one or two small beaded bracelets. For a bit of drama, stick with a silver cuff or thicker bracelet. For a pop of color, go with a colored cuff.

Earrings

Flower earrings: F21, Small silver filigree earrings: Lia Sophia, Silver hoops: Lia Sophia, Big silver filigree earrings: F21

Close up of the F21 earrings- they didn't photograph well in the first pic

I'm a pale girl, so I gravitate towards silver, but if your skin tone can carry off gold, you can definitely stick with that. I'm all about earrings that feel "light" and all of these do. The filigree earrings really go with anything and add a little bit of drama with out weighing your face down.
Colored jewelry is so big this spring, and earrings are a great way to incorporate color in your look. Be careful with colored earrings though. Make sure the color works with your skin tone. I can't really wear red earrings because it brings out the red tones in my skin- not cute!
And seriously, how can you go wrong with hoops? They are just a great way to frame your face and work with an up or down hair style.

Nature in Necklaces

Light Aqua Shell Necklace: Shop in Cape Cod, Longer blue necklace: A present from my Iyah

Necklaces are another great way to bring color into an outfit and also texture. By bringing in natural elements you're matching the natural elements of the season. Softer, pastel colors work well with most colors, but shouldn't be matched with black- as the softness of the pastel jewelry won't match up with the harshness of a black shirt.

Brighter colored necklaces can definitely be paired with black, neutrals or white. When going with a necklace that's a bit more on the dramatic side, it's important to keep the shirt simple so it won't compete with the necklace. Avoid intricate necklines or patterns when wearing a longer or dramatic necklace.

Crystals in Bloom

Left: DSK, Right: Sanctuary Jewelry

Swarovski crystals just go with everything! If you're not into longer necklaces or dramatic necklaces, crystal necklaces are a great way to avoid the bare neckline look and add a subtle hint of color and shape.

With colored crystal you can really wear it with anything as long as the colors don't clash. Since the shapes are usually simple and the colors subtle, you can wear these with a bit more of a dramatic neckline and a soft pattern.

For a clear crystal, such as the moon necklace, I recommend wearing a bright color shirt underneath it to feature the crystal. If you have darker skin, it will also look great. I'm so pale, it just blends in lol.

Bling in Spring

Purple Studs: Fantasy Jewelry Box, All other pieces: Lia Sophia

I'm attracted to anything sparkly and shiny. I'm like a dog, I swear. Bling is always in. Just keep bling a little on the lighter and longer side to keep with the season. Also, the floral influences on the ring keep these pieces spring ready!

GIVEAWAY ALERT!!

I was contacted by Fantasy Jewelry Box and was given the opportunity to pick out a item. With all of their amazing celeb inspired pieces, it was hard to pick. I picked these gorgeous, lavender studs. They are a perfect piece for spring! Purple works well with a lot of skin tones and also brings out green and blue in anyone's eyes. These are a great way to add subtle drama, if that makes any sense lol. I want to give someone the opportunity to add this gorgeous piece to their jewelry wardrobe.
