Hair help! Hellppp meee!

Ok, this is quite embarassing, but I have a feeling a lot of younger women are experiencing this. If there's anyone who can help me, I know it's my blogger babes.

Hi! My name is Melissa, I am 25 years old and I have grey hair. Yup, lovely grey hair. Not only is my hair turning grey (about 30 strands) but I GROW new grey hairs. So I put on a headband or twist my bangs back and there's this tiny little inch to two inch long friggin pieces of terror sticking out of my scalp. (Can you tell I am emotional about this? LoL)

I have had this for about a year now and have just continued to do what I did prior to the grey hair- use a demi-permenant dye in my natural hair color (brownish-red). I love doing this and the color, but I don't know if this is the best method due to the fact that those little buggers continue to grow.

Here's where I need your help. What do I do?

A: Continue to use the demi-permanent dye and pluck those little suckers like I do now (don't even spout that old don't pluck them they will grow back rule- it's a myth lol)
B: Get light highlights in hopes that the contrast between my hair and highlight will help disguise the grey
C: Permanently dye my hair a lighter color all over


I believe I am leaning towards highlights, but at the same time I am quite nervous about the up-keep costs. Employment isn't necessarily a give in for a teacher in my area and I still have no job prospects for September.

I would love to get your advice or anything you may be doing to handle the same problem.

Buy of the Week- 7/25-8/1

Hello my lovelies! This is a new series of posts I'm going to post every Sunday or Monday called "The Buy of the Week". It will feature great bargain buys of pretty much anything. It will either by items I've purchased myself this week, items from online sales or weekly sales fliers. I want to post it at the beginning of each week so people can run out and buy it if they so choose.

My first "Buy of the Week" comes from Kohls. I've been on such a romper kick lately and I went to check out Kohl's because I received a $10 coupon in the mail and STILL had a gift card from Christmas. Usually in Kohls i go right for the Elle, Vera Wang and Lauren Conrad selections and skip right over the juniors. Some of their junior stuff is TOO junior, but this time I saw some clearance racks so I decided to browse. Glad I did!

I found a floral print romper from the Derek Heart line. The original price was $36 and it was marked down to $11.60. It has a very vintage feel to it due to the type or floral print and the sweetheart neckline.

Book Review: Naturally Thin by Bethenny Frankel

I will be the first to admit that I caught on to the whole "Housewives" trend very late. The only version I ever watched was of course, New York and I haven't even watched a complete season yet. The only woman I was ever really drawn to was Bethenny. Since she's gotten her own show I've even gotten a couple of comparisons to her. Not looks wise, but definitely the whole NY, I hate people, I want no one but Jason and my dog kinda attitude lol.

Since her show started I've been loving her even more. She might have had a wealthy upbringing, but no one can ever say the girl had it easy, which is why I think I can stand her and not the others lol.

Before I began watching NYC Housewives, I watched Bethenny's cooking videos on diet.com's YouTube channel. I'm not a health nut, but I do want to stop eating so much processed crap in my life and her recipes made that quite easy.

When I visited her website I read about her "diet" book, "Naturally Thin" and instantly picked it up from my library. I enjoyed it so much, I will be purchasing it along with her book of recipes.

Best known from reality TV (The Real Housewives of New York City), "natural foods chef" and entrepreneur Frankel wants unhappy dieters to know that everyone is "naturally thin," they've simply got to change some habits and learn "to think like a naturally thin person." The bulk of this self-help is devoted to ten rules, each outlined in a friendly but no-nonsense chapter. Rooted in Frankel's own struggles ("twenty years suffering through diet hell"), her rules include some familiar ideas smartly recast ("Your diet is a bank account" is a personal-finance gloss on "you are what you eat") and each has a couple recipes attached (Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies, Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms). Much of her advice, however, boils down to eating less: other chapters look at moderation, mindful eating and portion size, with some helpful guides to measuring and eyeballing (though it's hard to see why "Downsize Now!" and "Cancel Your Membership in the Clean Plate Club" require separate chapters). A detailed 7-day starter plan fills out the volume. Review:

Honestly, I've read several diet books, tried 'em for a week and then never even thought of them again. I don't want to be on a diet and i don't want to lose tons of weight, but I would like t trim up a bit and definitely be healthier. I've stated this before, I'm a snacker, I eat a whole lot of processed food, and have no concept of portions lol.

This book is like the anti-diet, diet. Whenever I read my fitness mags or blogs they always state that in order to lose weight and keep it off you have to stick to a life style change, not a diet. Think about it, is it possible for you to avoid carbs for the rest of your life or not eat after 7? It's difficult! That's what I really lived about this book. It was a set of life guidelines, not strict rules. Most of the rules are common sense, but the way she explains how to implement them and how she incorporates her own life and strategies into the book makes it so possible and realistic.

A rundown of the rules:

Rule 1: Your Diet is a Bank Account
Basically, this just means balance out your diet. If your breakfast is all carbs, make your lunch protein. If you have a massive lunch, have a tinier dinner. It makes sense when you read it lol.

Rule 2: You Can Have It All, Just Not All at Once
This is my fave rule. She says when she goes out to restaurants she never really orders entrees, just sides and appetizers. Just make sure the appetizer isn't your typical bar fare, like wings and potato skins. She gets to taste a lot of different things with out overdoing it.

Rule 3: Taste Everything, Eat Nothing
This is so similar to rule #3. Basically, taste everything you want, but don't have massively large quantities of it.

Rule 4: Pay Attention
This is a rule that every diet should follow. I mindlessly munch while watching tv. I don't even realize I'm still friggin eating sometimes. Sit down, enjoy a meal and pay attention to what you are eating.

Rule 5: Downsize Now
This is all about portion control. Serve your meals on salad size plates and ramekin bowls. Portions in restaurants are HUGE, so ask the waiter to bag half right away or cut your meal in half.

Rule 6: Cancel Your Membership to the Clean Plate Club
My friend always jokes "A lady always leaves food on her plate". I always subscribed to that notion. I never clean off my plate, we don't need every single bite of something.

Rule 7: Check Yourself before You Wreck Yourself
This rule is about bingeing. Unfortunately, I know a lot about that. I can get a craving for something and 10 cookies later absolutely hate myself. This rule is just about avoiding this binge triggers and getting yourself under control before you do binge.

Rule 8: Know Thyself
This is important. Know what you like, what doesn't work for you, what your food triggers are. Really take a self-inventory.

Rule 9: Get Real
Eat real, non-processed from the earth foods. This one is pretty damn simple.

Rule 10: Good for You
Know what is good for you, how your body works and what's good for your lifestyle.


The first section of the book is introducing these 10 rules. Each rule has recipes every it. The second section of the book is a one week plan on how to implement these rules into your life and make them become habit. The book ends with a three week peek into Bethenny's eating.

Overall, I loved this book and have really worked on using these rules. Rule #1 is my fave rule and honestly works the best for me. I recommend this for anyone who wants to diet with out dieting.

New and improved make up storage

So finally, I have made some progress on getting my make up area to a cute and organized area. In January I did a post on my first attempt at organizing and cleaning up my make up area here. It didn't work out so well.

Now that stores are being flooded with back to school dorm type stuff I am finding it easier to find functional and cute organizational items. My friend told me that they have some items that match my trays at Marshalls, so stay tuned for an even further organized post and a more in depth peek into my collection.

I got the idea of hunting down these trays for this purpose from Pam. She has a bunch of them in black and white to organize her make up. I bought mine from Marshalls, but I've also seen them at TJ Maxx and Home Goods (these three stores are related).

June Faves

So pretty much every other blogger and YT guru out there do monthly faves. I thought I would start (even if it's a few days late!!)



Milani Minerals Mousse Foundation
I bought this last month at CVS for 75% off. I can't find it at any drugstores by me anymore, but it is available at Cherry Culture for $7.49. I purchased this because I wanted a summer foundation, but nothing as heavy as my Revlon Color Stay. I bought this because it was so cheap and it was worth a shot. Well, other than the pump breaking and me having to use a q-tip to get it out, I just ADORE this stuff. It's amazing how easily this blends and how airy it feels. I only have to use a tiny amount for great, glowy coverage. I may re-order this in my winter color off Cherry Culture.

Laura Gellar Spackle Primer in Bronze
I purchased this back in January in a set from Sephora (set no longer available). In the winter I wasn't crazy about it, but now that I'm not as pale, I love this stuff. It's a lot more liquid-y than my beloved Avon Magix Primer, but for the summer it feels perfect. I can't really say anything about helping foundation last longer, but it really leaves my skin glowy.

Physician's Formula Strip
I mentioned this in my summer faves post and it still is a fave. It's perfect to use as a shimmery bronzer, a highlighter, and as individual eyeshadows.

Bath and Body Works Stress Relieving Pillow Spray
I got this as part of a stress relieving gift set and I love this stuff. It has a strong scent of eucalyptus, so if you don't like that sent, you will probably hate this. I don't know if this is necessarily stress relieving, but it gives me something nice to smell when I nuzzle into my pillow lol.

♥ ELF's Super Glossy Lip Shine w/SPF 15 in Watermelon
In the summer it is so important to use a lip product with an SPF in it. Why not have it be cute? This gloss doesn't pack a lot of pigmentation, but it does give my lips a "juicy and sparkly" kind of look. It's perfect for lazy, hazy days.

The Body Shop Luxury Flannel Washcloth

My dad bought this for me in May from The Body Shop and I just started using it every day recently. I don't know why I waited so long. This thing is so cool. When used wet it's very soft and silky, but when it dries it gets all hard. I'm currently using a bar soap from Basin as my face wash so I use this product to apply it and also to wipe off masks. This is my fave product by far of the month!
