NOTW-Halloween

I just don't know what happened to me. I used to love Halloween. I loved picking out a costume and I loved the excess of Reeses even more. Now I'm just blah about it. I've even gone so far as to bribe my students to hand over there Reeses after trick-or-treating. However, I do love seeing my students get dressed up and I will be throwing on a little costume for work tomorrow. To match my costume, I made my Grace give me a matching nail look. She is really too talented.

Can you guess what my lil work costume is going to be? :)

After visiting and playing around the Jewelmint Facebook site I now have a $9 off coupon and want to make only one purchase since I'm supposed to be saving my money and buying Christmas presents. I want your guys help! Which item should I go with???

OOTD-Comfy Hourglass

I wear as comfy of clothes as I can get away with at work. Since I'm outside with my kids at lunch and recess I need to be comfy and able to run and break up fights with ease while still looking chic. This ensemble has quickly become one of my fave outfits. It's super comfy and the belt gives me somewhat of an hour glass figure which never happens for me.

Sweater Tunic- H&M (recently)
Leggings: Vera Wang for Kohls (last winter, but saw the same style there this year)
Belt: Super old Charlotte Russe
Shoes: Coach Black Patent Ballet Flats from DSW (old)

Gunmetal Bracelet: Lia Sophia
Shoes: See Above
Mother of Pearl Ring: Pandora compliments of the boy (this is one item of my every day jewelry)
Love Necklace: Tiffany courtesy of the boy (second item of my everyday jewelry)
Black and White necklace: NY&Co (last spring)

Quick Tip-Get out those scissors

I love watching quick tip type of videos on Youtube. One of the most common quick tips I've seen and heard is to cut tubes of products in half in order to get out more of the product. I've never done it until recently with my Avon Magix Primer. And WOW! There is so much product left in it. Make sure to store the halves in a ziploc since it's exposed to the elements now.

This is just half of the tube. I'm so happy I did this and can't wait to go scissor happy on some other products lol.

What's going on here?

You may have noticed some changes around here recently.  I really do love this blog and blogging in general, but I go through phases where  I seem to blog regularly and then other times I hardly blog at all. My boyfriend, John, is like tech genius and has seen how much I love blogging and offered to help me spruce things up. Well, I must have hit the bf jackpot, because he got into it so much, that he now wants to be a contributor!  I read many a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blog and it's rare that a blog appeals to both sexes.  As John says, men want to be fabulously thrifty too! (Who knew??!!).  So John will be a regular men's contributor writing posts on men's fashion, product reviews and general metro men stuff! ;)

I will also be including a lot more lifestyle posts.  Just like with blogging, I go through phases of wanting to be my healthiest self..I am currently in one of those phases.  So expect some health driven blog posts and also some home decor posts as John is in the process of moving.

Of course, I started blogging because I love beauty and fashion blogs, especially those that focus on the more affordable things in life, and that's what my blog will mainly be focused on still.

Thanks for reading and thank you for all your support!

Current Faves- Fall 2011

I have a few products lately that I have been grabbing for almost every day.

From to L to R:

Forever 21 Love and Beauty Bronzer- I love this mini gradiated palette. I haven't been using this as a bronzer, but using the individual shades to make a pretty bronzey smokey eye. I love this with a soft brown liner. The pigmentation is pretty amazing.

Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Treatment- This is like a tinted lip balm. I really love this product, don't think it's worth the money, but since I got it in my August QVC Beauty Tube, I'll definitely give it a whirl. It adds a pretty flush to the lips. It reminds me of a subtle blush but for your pout.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning Body Lotion- I leave this massive pump container of lotion right next to my shower to slather up as soon as I get out. This stuff smells delish and is highly moisturizing. If you live in a climate where the seasons are currently changing it's time to step up your moisturization routine for the upcoming dry air.

Aussie Aussome Volume Styling Mouse- I really love this mousse. I use it when I air dry my hair and it gives me subtle lift and curl in my hair. I just chopped some hair off though so I'm hoping it will help with even more volume since my hair is much lighter.

What are the products you are currently reaching for daily?

Tag: 40 Beauty Questions

I stole this Tag from my girl, Tammy. I watched her video and i just had to do this baby!!

**Skincare**

How many times do you wash your face daily?

I only wash at night. I have super dry skin and washing it twice just seems to dry it out. I use water and a toner in the morning.

-What skin type do you have? (dry, oily, combo)

Dry and acne prone..what a GREAT combo

-What is your current facial wash?

Philosophy's Purity Made Simple

-Do you exfoliate?

No, and I really should. Any recommendations for an exfoliator for super sensitive skin?

-What brand do you use?
??

-What moisturizer do you use?

In the morning I use Trader Joe's Regenerating Antioxidant Moisturizing Face Lotion and in the evening I use Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

-Do you have freckles?

Yes, love them during the winter and hate them during the summer because they get massive!

-Do you use eye cream?

Yes, I am currently using 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream and I love it!

-Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
Yes, did and do. I had it under control for quite a while, and I began using my Clarisonic again and it just made my chin area EXPLODE. This was a few weeks ago and I'm still trying to get it back under control.

-Did you ever have to use Pro-activ?

Yes and it's just way to drying for me.

**MAKE-UP**

-What foundation do you use?
Most of the time I use Neutrogena Healthy Skin in , but I am also currently testing out Revlon's Age Defying DNA Advantage foundation in Bare Buff and L'Oreal's Magic Smooth Soufle in Nude Beige.

-How about concealer?
I use Benefit Boi-ing under my eyes and The Balm Time Balm on blemishes and around my nose.

-Do you know your undertone color?

I have a cool skin tone, so I guess blues and purples?

-What do you think of fake eyelashes?

I love, love, love them. I really need to practice applying them more because I do have a few pairs.

-Did you know that you are suppose to change your mascara every 3 months?

I do and I'm really good with changing mascaras every 3 months. I'm a boring person and only use one mascara at any given time.

-What brand of mascara do you use?

I am currently using Blinc Tube Mascara.

-Sephora or MAC?

I just have so much fun in Sephora. There's so much to play with and more variety.

-Do you have a MAC Pro-card?

Nope

-What makeup tools do you use in make up application?

I'm a brushes only girl. I've never used a sponge or Beauty Blender.

-Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?

I do..I'm currently using the $1 ELF Primer, but I have tons of other brands of eye primers. My fave high end is TFSI.

-For the face?

Yes, I really hate not having a face primer on, even though I'm not sure if it does anything. I use the Avon Magix Primer.

-What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?

My fave shadow is actually a trio from WnW called Sweet as Candy . I love using this as an every day look.

-Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

I still royally suck at using liquid liner, so I love me some pencil liner.

-How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

Almost daily because I line the upper inner lash line to make my lashes look fuller.

-What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?

OMG..hate them! I just don't have the patience to deal with them and I'm too clumsy.

-Do you use mineral makeup?

I have a lot of mineral makeup samples, but I never bought into the hype. Maybe my skin just has too many problem areas to have mineral makeup be effective.

-What is your favorite lipstick?

I'm really not a lipstick gal. I have quite a few lipsticks, but I barely wear them.

-How about lipgloss?

I love my ELF Supershine Glosses the bestest.

-What is your favorite blush to use?

I love my Physician's Formula Mood Boosting Blush in Natural. I also love my Mac MSF in Redhead.

-Do you buy your makeup on ebay?

I bought a few NYX Jumbo Pencils on Ebay a few years ago and haven't bought makeup from Ebay since. I didn't have a bad experience, I just became more educated on all the fakes out there.

-Do you like drugstore makeup?

I am a complete drugstore gal. I have very few high end items.

-Do you go to CCO's? (cosmetic company outlets)

I bought a few Mac blushes and mini glosses from a CCO. I rarely go to the outlets though.

-Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?

Yes, I would love to take some classes at Mac or Eve Pearl.

-Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

When I'm in a rush I am. I'm also messy with my eye make up sometimes.

-Name a makeup crime that you hate?

A foundation mask. Blend on the neck and ears!

-Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick, eyeshadow) or neutral ones?

I'm definitely more of a neutral's gal. I don't think I'm quite comfy enough in my own skin yet to be super dramatic or funky.

-Which celebrity always has great make up?

I really love Lauren Conrad's simple makeup .

-If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item, what would you use?

Concealer! My acne and acne scars just drive me loco.

-Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?

It depends on if I'm having a good skin day or not. The past few weeks? Hells no!!

-Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?

Again, depends on my skin. Sometimes I'm happy..others I'm just like BLAH

-In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?

I really love Revlon and Wet and Wild. Revlon makes great drugstore foundations and powders and WnW is just so much fun and the pigmetnation is AMAZING for the price!

-What do you think of Makeup??

I really, really love makeup. It's fun to play with, makes me feel good about myself and is just so girly.

Dress Down Fridays

Tips for a successful dress drown day for men at work!

Most offices in NYC relax their dress codes on Fridays. This helps improve morale and worker cohesion, as well as help us save money on dry cleaning.

Top: Polo shirt, patterned untucked dress shirt (darker colors with large plaid squares or other patterns work best, neck button open) or a cashmere sweater works in cooler weather.

You need to look casual and feel comfortable but still look professional.

Bottom: Dark or blue snug fitting jeans (no acid washed, ripped or baggy jeans), khakis or regular dress pants work. Make sure your pants are pressed, ironed or at least steamed.

Shoes: Most shoes that match the outfit work. Make sure to unscuff and polish as necessary. No multi-colored kicks like gaudy Jordans. One colored sneakers or dressy boots work best. The trick is to feel comfortable while remaining professional.

Wear a belt, undershirt and watch (sporty or unconventional is ok here) to complete the outfit.

New Blogger!

Hi everyone, I'm John and I'll be doing some blogging and tech support around here! Living in Manhattan, being in my twenties and appreciating the female form are my only qualifications to talk about women's fashion, so I'll be blogging about men's fashion and accesories in New York City, as well as health and food - and who knows what else?

Cream layering tank- H&M (they are always sold there, the best long length tanks!)
Black stretchy capris- Joyce Leslie (Spring 2010)

NOTW-Nail of the Week

I'm normally pretty blah about my nails. I don't really take care of them like I should, therefore they don't take care of me like they should. I like dark muted colors on my nails and I very rarely experiment with them.

My boyfriend's little sister, Grace, is a nail artiste (said with a french accent). She does the most awesome designs and I am completely jealous of her skills. She had a tie dyed affect on her nails this week, and well, I just couldn't resist asking her to do mine.

This week is Homecoming Week at my alma matter, Penn State. I couldn't resist paying homage to my favoritest place in the world with blue and white nails. She simply dragged a toothpick through the colors to make the design. How friggin cute do they look?

She's just starting to get into Youtube. We are currently trying to come up with a filming set up for her, because it's so hard to use her Macbook to film nails. Go give my "little sis" some love on her YT channel by clicking here.
