What I'm Reading and Watching This Week

Oh, this already feels like the week that will never end! I'm fighting off a terrible cold and I'm super busy this week, fortunately I'm super busy with a lot of fun stuff, but the week is still crawling by! Luckily, I have some of my beauty and fashion loves to keep me occupied in between running to the tissue box!

What I'm Watching This Week:

I love my XTeeener! She is just too damn cute and very relatable. My hair is about her length so I was interested in this video with three super easy hair tutorials. I can't wait to try the first two styles especially!

What I'm Reading This Week:

J's Everyday Fashion is one of my favorite fashion blogs out there! She's gorgeous, she takes inspiration from everyone, is serious about color in her wardrobe (I'm trying to follow suit) and does it all on a budget! If you love to put together looks inspired by catalogs, magazines, actresses, etc..then J is your girl!

Review Time: Mally Volumizing Mascara

A couple months back I received Mally's Volumizing Mascara in my QVC Beauty Tube. In case you haven't heard about QVC's Beauty Tube before, it's a really great beauty sample service sent out once every few months from QVC. It features full and sample sized products from some of their most popular brands. A brand that I love to watch on QVC, but have never ordered products from is Mally Beauty. I was excited to try this mascara!

Info from QVC.com:

What is it: A unique mascara formula that helps create the look of gorgeous, full, luxurious lashes. A new shipment arrives approximately every four months for as long as you remain in this auto-delivery plan.

Who is it for: The classic black color is perfect for all skin tones.

Why is it different: The combination of natural waxes and carefully-chosen powders gives lashes an instant boost. The plush combing brush works with the powders in the formula to help thicken lashes without clumping, giving you gorgeous volume that lasts and lasts.

How do I use it: Apply to lashes from base to tip. For super luminous lashes, apply one coat, let it dry, then apply a second coat. Repeat until you've got the lash look you love.

It's currently available for $28 for two, which isn't too shabby.

I'm really impressed with this mascara! It definitely volumizes and thickens my lashes, which is really necessary when you wear glasses. It lasts all day and dries super quick. It does clump a little bit, and when it dries so quickly it kind of makes it dificult to comb those clumps out, but other than that, it is love!

Before

After:

Arrrghhh! I've saved these photos 100 different ways, and they still upload crooked. I'm super sorry!

Anyway, I hope you can see that the volumizing and thickening of this mascara is great! I also love how it's super, super black! While it's a bit pricier than my usual mascara, I think $28 for two, is actually not too shabby!

Anyone else ever try any other Mally products?

How to: Heatless Curls Part 4- Sock Curls

So my quest to test out as many heatless curling techniques as possible continues. So far I've had some success with the french twist technique, no success with the sock bun method and great success with the headband method. Will sock curls be a hit or miss for me?

Reminder: My hair is about to my collarbone, with some natural wave and is pretty thick.

I used this video for this technique. I've heard of using socks as rollers before, but I'm really glad I watched this video because Yaya only used three socks for her entire head. I would have done a lot more and probably would have looked like a poodle!

Can you tell I have a thing for argyle?

Results

LOOOOOOVE! This gave me full, voluminous waves. Kind of like if I set my hair with hot rollers. These babies held pretty well too, but started to frizz up quite badly. I think that had more to do with the weather though and my lack of product. I will definitely be using this technique again.

O, does anyone have a recommendation as to what styling product is best to use with these heat free techniques? I've been using a curling mousse on my damp hair and then a hairspray afterwards, but I'm not happy with the hold or the feel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

OOTD: Early Spring

It has been absolutely gorgeous the past few days in NY. I'm so happy that I got to bust out some of my spring wardrobe pieces much earlier than expected. Today was 72 degrees, so I busted out a sheer work appropriate blouse.

::Sorry for the TERRIBLE pics::

It's an H&M themed outfit!

Blue Sheer Button Down: H&M (recently)
Long oatmeal layering tank: H&M (old)
Black Leggings: H&M (recently)
Brown Belt- Kohls (recently- only clearance for less than $5!)
Brown Riding Boots- Aerosoles Outlet (old)
Gold Disc Necklace- Antique
Gold Bangle Set- Charming Charlies (Free from a great BOGO sale)

I really love this blouse, but it was honestly a bit heavier than I thought it would be. This is perfect for those days with temps in the 60's to low 70's. I guess my hot classroom was too warm!

Spring Fashion Wants

This amazingly awesome March weather has got me in early spring mode! I usually hate when stores display spring clothing in February and March, because it's normally dreadfully cold here in NY! However, this winter is something different and I hope the lovely 60's temps stay around for a while! I have a pretty decent spring/summer wardrobe put together, but there are some pieces that I am dying to incorporate into my spring rotation!

High/Low Skirt

This spring seems to be about pushing my style boundaries. I really like the high-low skirt trend, but I think I'd want to start with this subtle high-low hem to see if this trend really fits me. Plus, the price is amazing!

Sheer Skirt

This is a trend that is NOT my usual style, but I am oddly attracted to it. I think it's very girly and regal looking. I think I just have to get comfortable with tucking in my shirts which is a necessity for a lot of the spring trends out there.

Chambray Shirt

I cannot tell you how long I have wanted a chambray shirt! I think they are so laid back and so chic. Button downs aren't normally my style, but the relaxed fit of these shirts make them a must have.

Colorblock Tank

Colorblock anything is HUGE right now! But I am really partial to the colorblock tanks. I think they are a great and subtle way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe and is also a great layering piece for those early spring days.

White Jeans

Ok, this trend scares me the most! White bottoms are very difficult to pull off. I'm not even nervous about the major emphasis on my bottom half, I'm terrified of getting them dirty! This trend is an absolute NO-NO to work. Children equals dirty!

Destroyed Denim

I don't own one pair of less than perfect jeans. Meaning, no destroyed denim! I've wanted a pair of these for a while and I don't know why I haven't picked them up! I think destroyed denim jeans are such a great foundation for so many spring casual outfits.

Capped Toe Flats

I love the Chanel-esque feel of these capped flats. I also own quite a few pairs of Target flats and they are very comfy and hold up very well.

How to: Heatless Curls Part 3-Headband Curls

So my quest to find the perfect technique for heat free curls continued after so-so results with the french twist and total fail results with the sock bun, I have finally found success!!

How to curl your hair with a headband!!!

This is the original video I watched for this method, but after watching a few videos I ended up using a larger headband than what this video showed. I was so happy with the results of this! I ended up re-curling one or two of the back pieces because I got sloppy at the back. Also, I definitely recommend using a product in your hair prior to curling. I put a curling mousse in my damp hair, but wished I had used something on my hair right before curling it.

Before:

After:

Now I used a headband that was over an inch wide which gave me loser curls, but I also think that lead to some of the flatness towards the top. I'm definitely going to play around with this method, because I really like it. However, there are still a ton more heatless curl methods I want to try!

What I'm Reading and Watching This Week

March is just the longest month ever! It's the one month with not a single day off from school. I keep wishing for my snow days (two are built into our calendar!), but it doesn't appear that this is going to happen anytime soon. So I've been doing a lot of youtubing and blog reading to pass the time!

What I'm Watching This Week

I've only recently found Diamondsandheels14 on Youtube and I am so glad I did! I find her to be one of the most beautiful and brave Youtube gurus! Her skincare and acne videos are amazing! She's also super cheery and who doesn't love that?

Review: Deborah Lippmann The Stripper To Go Nail Polish Removew

I have this box in my drawer that is just full of samples or various products from Birchbox, QVC Beauty Tube or Sephora samples. I was looking through it a couple of weeks ago and found these nail polish remover pads from Deborah Lippmann. I'm 90% sure that I received these in a Birchbox, but I cancelled my subscription so long ago that I really can't be sure.

Nails are not my forte at all. Any product that will make doing my own nails easier is alright in my book.

These nail polish remover pads are super easy to use, HOWEVER not amazing on glitter polish. If you have regular polish on one swipe of these pads will remove the polish, if you have glitter polish you may need to use a bit more elbow grease. This product claims to be lavender scented, but it smells like regular old nail polish to me.

Product Info:
Easy, effortless polish removal no matter the nail color
Botanical ingredients keep the nail plate moisturized and provide natural anti-bacterial properties
One mitt cleans all 10 nails
One mitt per packet and 6 packets per box

Where to buy: Amazon, Nordstrom, Saks for $12.00 for 6 mitts

Would I repurchase?: While I love the portability of the product, $2.00 per usage for nail polish remover is just a bit much for me.
