What I'm Watching and Reading This Week

What I'm Watching This Week

I love, love Hahn!  I feel like her and Carly Cristman get a lot more crap than a lot of the other YouTube gurus out there, and I don't know why!  I think Hahn's style is amazing and she's a gorgeous girl.  I especially loved this video of her, sans makeup!  I think it takes a lot of balls to go sans makeup on Youtube, especially when you get crap already.  I love these complete transformation/get ready with me videos.

What I'm Reading This Week

I have loved Lauren Conrad since she first appeared on Laguna Beach.  I think it's quite impressive the brand that she has created.  I know a lot of people love TheBeautyDepartment.com, but I am pretty partial to Laurenconrad.com.  She has great lifestyle articles, fashion, fitness and overall it's just a very pretty site.

May Favorites

May was an incredibly busy and complicated month for me, but now that June is just a few days away and better yet I only have 18 work days left until summer vacation, things are definitely on the up and up for me.

The unofficial beginning to summer in NY came with a bang! Temperatures haven't dipped below 80 in a week, and I just don't do well in the heat! The heat has just made me holy lazy, which explains my completely boring May favorites!

From top to bottom, L to R:

Sephora Pore Precision Cleansing Pad- The Clarisonic was a total bust for my skin, so I decided to give this super cheap tool a try after reading a review on Glitz Glam Budget.  I really like this little tool, and for only a few bucks at Sephora, you can't beat it!  I put my cleanser right on this pad and massage it around my face in circular motions.  It's very soothing and provides a very gentle deep cleaning.  I use this daily.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhance
- I bought this product last summer and am still really loving it for easy, breezy type days.  This is a three in one product that has a retinol treatment, SPF 20 and provides sheer coverage.  When I'm having good skin days or have a little bit of color on my face, this along with my concealer really provides all of the coverage I need.

ELF Makeup Mist & Set- I spray this product directly on my face when I know I'll be going somewhere after work and want my makeup to last a little longer than usual.  I notice a tad bit of a difference with staying power, but I really like the finish that it provides my skin.

ELF Eyebrow Filler & Liner- This product is my fave ELF product by far!  It fills in my sparse brows without looking drawn on and the ivory side really helps to enhance my arch.  This product is amazing for only $3!

Lavanilla The Healthy Body Butter in Vanilla Coconut- I think I received this in a Birchbox or Test Tube or something because I usually don't spend this much on a body lotion.  I love the yummy and subtle scent of this lotion and it's really non-greasy.  Not super moisturizing though, so you made something stronger for super dry areas.

....And a random fashion fave

I love these cork wedge heels from Payless!  I bought them during a BOGO sale, and while they aren't SUPER comfy, they aren't bad and give me just the right amount of lift that I need for a night out.

What I'm Watching and Reading This Week

I love scarves!  I have a pretty decent collection, but I could always use more.  As I stated in my last post, my wardrobe is pretty bland and safe so I like to add a pop of fun or color with accessories.  Scarves are a great way to add some fun to a basic look and for very little money.

Nikkiphillippi shared her scarf collection along with some outfits that she pairs her scarves with.  A great video if you are looking for scarf inspiration.

My Favorite Jewelry Pieces + A Giveaway!!

Looking through my jewelry collection, I have amassed quite a lot since I graduated college.  I don't have a lot of fine pieces of jewelry, I'm more of a costume jewelry gal.  Most of my pieces are from Forever 21, Jewelmint, or Lia Sophia.

My fave bracelets, earrings and a ring!

From top to bottom, L to R: Gunmetal Bracelet from Lia Sophia, Zipper Bracelet from Jewelmint, Floral Ring Lia Sophia, Pearl Bracelet Bella's of Cape Cod, Remember Versaille Earrings Jewelmint and Floral Earrings (anyone remember the names of these?) Jewelmint

Close ups of my favorite bracelets.  Earrings and bracelets are the two things I MUST wear everyday!

Favorite Necklaces:

From Top to Bottom: Blue and Green Enamel Necklace Charming Charlies, Mixed Media Necklace Lia Sophia and Silver Circles Lia Sophia

I like jewelry that really packs a punch.  A lot of my wardrobe is very simple, so I spice things up with jewelry.  My favorites are definitely earrings and bracelets.

GIVEAWAY!!

The Mints seem to be taking over the blogosphere and Youtubesphere! I've personally only tried Jewelmint and Stylemint.  I Love, Love, Love Jewelmint but I don't order from them only month.  I only order pieces I know I'll wear regularly and pieces that I can't find at places like Forever 21 or Charming Charlies.  Jewelmint sent me this Urban Warrior Ring a while ago and I'd like to be able to give it away to one of you! If you haven't tried Jewelmint products yet, now is your time!

The ring is adjustable so don't worry about sizing.  It's a brushed gold and definitely packs a pop!

Thursday Tip: Bronzer All Over

I'm super pale! Like ghostly pale.  And freckly! I need bronzer to look like I have any color to my skin at all.  I use a matte bronzer to contour my cheeks and chin, and then I use a subtle bronzer as an all over color.  My handiest tip is to make sure you bronze your ears and chin and neck! A telltale sign of bronzer usage is pale ears and a pale neck.

What I'm Reading and Watching This Week

Back to my Weekly Reads and Watches posts! I've missed doing these.

What I'm Watching This Week

They very recently opened up a Charming Charlies by me, and to say that I am obsessed is a little bit of an understatement! If you don't know Charming Charlies is an accessory store that is organized by color and super affordable.  It's a girl's wonderland.
Carly Cristman is one of my favorite YouTubers.  She's super chic and elegant and definitely makes me want to be more daring with my fashion choices.

What I'm Reading This Week

I first started seeing Lily's outfits posted on Pinterest.  She does layering better than most gals, and I love that her blog isn't super fancy or anything.  She either has pictures done in a field or something or my favorites are her pictures in her bathroom mirror at work.  There's just a sense of realness to the blog that I really enjoy.

What have you all been reading or watching this week?

Heatless Curls-Success finally!

Back in February I read Mara's post about foam rollers.  I've wanted some foam rollers since and finally ordered some on Amazon last week.  She uses a lot of 1 1/2 rollers which I haven't tried yet, but after the success of using the one inch ones, I am MOST DEFINITELY going to attempt to hunt down 1 1/2 inch foam rollers.

I purchased Vidal Sassoon Large Foam Rollers from Amazon for a little under $4.  I bought two packages because I wasn't sure how many my hair would take.

I set my hair with two on top and then about 3-4 on each side.  Make sure to keep them rolled away from your face.

Rollers in

I put these in after washing my hair when my hair was about 90% dry.  I prepped my damp hair with volumizing mousse at the roots and curling mousse from my ears down.  These were actually comfy to sleep in.  I sleep on my back or my belly and both positions were very comfortable with these in.  I'm just glad I sleep alone, because I definitely look like a Grandma with these in!

Oodles and oodles of curls!!

I should have taken a picture after my hair fell a bit, because it looks a bit crazy here! The curls are gorgeous and voluminous and very natural looking.  I got compliments on this all day and my co-worker even asked me to do her hair! After trying this and seeing it's success I definitely want to order the jumbo foam rollers to see if I can get results similar to Mara's.

So now that I'm content with my heat-free curl method I want to find the perfect heat free beachy waves technique.  Any recommendations?

Thursday Quick Tip

As I get back into the swing of blogging, I want to start a new weekly post of quick tips.  I've learned some many from reading great mags, blogs, watching shows and from my great teacher friends that I wanted to share as many of them as I could.

My first tip is about one of my favorite iPhone apps and how to use it.  I love watching beauty vids on YouTube and reading my beauty blogs.  My favorite videos to watch or posts to read are monthly favorites or hauls.  I love so many product recommendations but find it difficult to keep track of products I want to try.

I downloaded an called iDo-Notepad.  It is by far my favorite app! I always have my phone by me so I keep a list of products that I want to try, so when I run to the drugstore or Sephora I know what to look for.  Here's a sampling of the products I have on my list currently:

I also use it to keep track of books I want to read and blog post ideas.  It's a great and free way to keep your shopping lists organized!

Swapping what?

I am so sorry I've been away for so long! I've been going through a lot of personal stuff right now.  Break ups are just the worst aren't they? The best part of break ups though is to see how strong of a support system we all have.  My friends, family and coworkers have just been amazing.  I am one lucky lady!

Back the point of this post, revamping your style for free  I've been doing a lot of closet cleaning lately, as I feel like I'm always doing!  After realizing I had a pretty decent amount of stuff I didn't want to just throw it away or get rid of it.  There are a lot of options for you to do with your trash...for it may be someone else's treasure!

* Organize a swap with friends!  If you have friends with similar sizing organize a clothing swap.  Tell your girls to clean out their closets, buy some wine and some yummies and make a night out of it.  My friend Brianne and I just swapped some clothing and we ended up with some great stuff!

* Find a clothing swap. Large organized clothing swaps are becoming very popular.  The system sort of works the same way as a clothing swap with friends, but there may be more restrictions.  Try searching meetup.com or clothingswap.com

* Try a swap website!  Since swapping has become increasingly more popular, a slew of swap websites have popped up.  Some of them work differently, but basically you upload photos and descriptions of your items and you get tokens for swapping certain items which you can then use to get an item from the site.  Try swapstyle.com or rehash.com.

What do you guys and gals do with your clothes when you are just so over them?
