July Glossybox

So I totally thought my last Glossybox was my July one, but it turns out I jumped ahead a bit.  The theme of this Glossybox was "Summer Nights".  I must say this is my least favorite box so far.

From L to R, top to bottom:

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo- I recently got my hair highlighted so I am happy to try out a color safe shampoo.

Allesandro International Pedix Heel Rescue Balm- Foot creams are always great to have during the winter.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Conditioner- The description says this is a micro-bubble conditioner.  I don't know what that means, but it does sound kind of fun!

Almond and Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion- I'm not a fan of samples in packages like this.  It's really too small of an amount to get a true feel for the product.

Senna Cosmetics Double Dose Lip Lacquer- This is the product I am the most excited to try out.  Not only do I really like pearlized lip colors, but the description of this product says it contains vitamins and jojoba oil to keep lips moisturized.

Ofra Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil- The description of this product says it's waterproof and contains beeswax to help keep things in place.  I want to see if it's actually universal though!

So all in all, definitely some products I am going to be testing out, but I'm only really excited about the Senna Lip Lacquer.  Did anyone else get this month's Glossybox? What do you guys think?

Affordable Products that DON'T Test on Animals

A few years ago I tried to make a concious effort to only purchase beauty products that weren't tested on animals.  It's actually quite difficult to do so, especially when there is such conflicting information on different brands.

I had put together a decent list a few years ago of companies that didn't test on animals and when I began doing research on brands today I was quite shocked to see that a lot of companies have BEGUN testing on animals.  It turns out that if products are sold in China, animal testing is required.  Estee Lauder and it's companies (including Mac) have now begun testing on animals to sell their products in China.  I find that so disappointing!

This goal of mine may be hypocritical since I am a carnivore, but it's just something I try to do to do my part for nature.

I'm not here to judge people for using products that are tested on animals, because my collection does unfortunately contain products from brands that aren't cruelty free, I'm just hoping that next time if it comes between a hairspray from Herbal Essences or John Frieda, that we'll all be able to pick the product that is cruelty free.

If you know of any other affordable or drugstore brands that belong on here, please comment and let me know! Also, is whether a product is tested on animals or not something you consider when purchasing a beauty product? I'd love to know!

What I'm Reading and Watching This Week

What I'm Watching This Week

I love Kate and her simple hair tutorials.  This woman has the best hair ever!  This is a simple hair style, yet perfect for the summer days where you want your hair out of your face!

What I'm Reading This Week

I'm a bit behind on my blog reading, but I have been enjoying Matched.  I picked this up because of a pin I saw on Pinterest.  It was a list of 25 book series to give a try if you loved The Hunger Games.  Well considering I am OBSESSED with the Hunger Games, I was definitely going to give some of the books on the list a try.  I started with Matched.  Matched also takes place in a post-apocalyptic society, but to me it's more of a love story.  I'm on the waiting list for the second book from the library!

Not Your Mamma's QVC

Growing up, I would always catch my mom watching QVC or ordering random kitchen gadgets from them.  Whenever I would pass by QVC while flipping channels I would see either kitchen goods, a tacky holiday decoration or hideous clothing.  Within the past few years, QVC has definitely stepped up their game incorporating a lot more popular and "younger" brands.

Just some of the brands that QVC now carries:

*Tarte
*Philosophy
*Clarisonic
*K-Dash by Kardashian Clothing
*Dooney & Bourke
*Isaac Mizrahi

I have found myself ordering quite a lot of beauty products from QVC within the past year or so.  I find that the kits and sets they put together offer a lot of product for a lot less money than you would pay for the products individually.

Where you really find the great values on QVC is their Today's Special Value or TSV.  The TSV is one item or set that is on super sale for one particular day.  During the work year I'm not really home to watch what the TSV is and sometimes I'll get home and realize it's an item I really want but it's all sold out!

I couldn't miss out another TSV, so I signed up for Inside Q.  For $12 a year you receive access to the Inside Q website, online newsletter and print magazine monthly.  What the print magazine and online newsletter contain is information on at least 5 TSV's for the next month.  You are also able to order them earlier to ensure that you can snatch them up!  You are also given a sneak peak on upcoming and new products and sometimes given special days on free shipping and easy pay (split up monthly payments interest free).

Here's a look at this month's issue of Inside Q.

This month's issue included information on Vanessa William's upcoming skincare line, some international recipes, and a few awesome TSV's including this Perfect Formula Gel Coat and Manicure Booster Collection (I'm ordering it!), Honora Pearl Bracelets and a Josie Maran Argan Oil skin care set.

If you find yourself interested in ordering some products from QVC, I would definitely recommend signing up for the Inside Q.  It makes tv shopping a bit simpler.

Review: Adoreme.com

A few months back Adoreme.com contacted me to do a product review.  Adoreme.com is a monthly subscription service for lingerie for $39.95 with free shipping.  The products range from every day bra and undies sets, special occasion sets, lingerie, and sexy sleepwear.  I was able to pick a product for a review.  Unfortunately, the lingerie set I ordered got lost in my break up, but I was able to use the set several times and wash it to see how well it was made.

I ordered the Brenda.  How damn cute?!

Information from the website:
Pull out your sexy thigh high stockings and a pair of high heeled pumps to complete this ultra sexy outfit made for mutual enjoyment.A sultry surprise that makes any night one to remember.
  • Mesh ruffle back
  • Adjustable straps
  • Underwire cup structure
  • Removable garter attachments
  • Includes matching string thong
  • 90% Nylon 10% Spandex
  • Seven'til Midnight Products
This set was surprisingly comfortable.  Normally these type of lacy materials always make me itch, this definitely did not.  I also like how the top has underwire to give the girls a boost.  I find that a lot of lingerie sets lack support, so the fact that this had underwire and adjustable straps made it much more flattering.

With products like this, I am always more comfortable hand washing them.  I washed both pieces by hand several times and laid them flat on a towel to dry.  Both pieces washed very well and actually ended up feeling a little softer after several washes.  I would DEFINITELY recommend hand washing most of your lingerie pieces that have lace.

I don't know if I would order lingerie or a bra and undie set every month, but to order several times a year would definitely help spice things up.  Even if you're single, order yourself a set- you deserve to feel sexy!!

Product Rant: Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra-Gel

Last month I received a sample of the Amore Pacific Moisture Bound Refreshing Hydra Gel in my Glossybox.  I had heard of this brand from a few Asian beauty blogs I've read, so I was excited to give this product a try.  The product description from Sephora made me even more excited to try it:

What it is:
A refreshing, oil-free hydrating gel that works to delay all signs of aging.

What it is formulated to do:
This deeply hydrating gel stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid in the skin to improve moisture levels. Formulated with ginger root extract and nine essential amino acids, these ingredients revitalize the skin to reveal a radiant complexion.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Sulfates
- Petro-Chemicals
- Phthalates

What else you need to know:
This gel contributes to the clearing of breakouts and acne by providing essential hydration and nutrients to the skin without clogging pores.

Umm...to say I hated this product, is kind of an understatement!  I have been using this for a little over a week and I refuse to use it anymore.

Some details: I have dry skin, but over the summer I tend to get pretty greasy. I live outside of NYC so the humidity is always a huge factor.  I have sensitive skin, sometimes prone to breakouts, but my biggest skin concerns now are hydration, preventative and acne scarring.

I have been using this cream at night and I wake up a MAJOR, MASSIVE grease ball.  My skin just feels so disgusting when I wake up.  I shouldn't be able to glide my hand over my face and have it slip off from grease.

This is a very expensive product and I'm very disappointed with the results.  Again, I've read through some of the reviews and this is not the norm.  I may try to save this cream to try again on my winter skin which is very dry, but for my summer skin, it's just not working!

My question is..do you change up your skin care regimen over the summer?  Do you use less moisturizing products?

July Glossy Box

So far, I am very impressed with my Glossy Boxes.  The sample sizes are ample, and the box does contain some full sized products.  Also, the brands are definitely considered boutique or upscale brands.  This month's theme was Summer Simplicity and I even enjoyed the Glossy Mag that came with it.

From L to R:

♥ First Aid Beauty Smooth Shave Cream ($16.50 for 6.8 fl. oz- I received 2.0 fl. oz)- This is a brand I have tried previously and i really enjoy their products.  The ingredients are simple and very good for the skin.  I'm really excited to try this product out!

♥ Beauty Addicts Show-OFF Mascara ($20 for a full size product and that's what I received!)- I've never heard of this brand but the mascara contains argan oil, so it should be interesting to test out.

♥ Kinerase Restructure Firming Cream ( $98 for 1.7 oz- I received .24 oz)- This is one of those skin care products that I want to try, but I'm nervous my sensitive skin will go loco!  The description says the cream visibly transforms and contours skin.

Row closest to camera:

♥ Shea Terra Organics Ultimate Moisturizing Body Creme in White Chocolate ($18 for 9 oz- I received 1 oz)- OMG does this stuff smell amazing??!! I've been hearing a lot about this brand on Youtube recently and I'm really excited to test this product out.

♥ Wella Professionals Enrich Moisturizing Treatment ($12 for 5.07 oz- I received .84 fl. oz)- I have seen this brand at a lot of salons, but never really tried it.  My hair is getting a bit fried from the weather, so this will be a good time to try this out.

♥ Perfume Sample of Urban Organic from a Perfume Organic- This is a summery fragrance and I love carrying around these little samples in my purse or when I travel.

Quick Tip Thursday

This week's tip is pretty well known, but I just learned about it a few months ago.  If any of you ladies use makeup removing wipes, there is a proper way to store them!

WRONG WAY

RIGHT WAY

By storing your wipes upside down, you are always ensuring that the next wipe you take will be moist. If you store your makeup wipes right side up then all of the liquid will run to the wipes on the bottom, your top wipes will be dried out in no time!  These babies aren't the cheapest, so make sure you are getting all that you can get out of them!

What I've Been Watching and Reading This Week

What I've Been Watching

I've recently discovered Chriselle's Youtube page and I am in love!  I love her fashion sense and her fashion videos are fantastic.  Even though I'm off for the summer, I really enjoyed this video on 4 work looks for the hot weather.

What I've Been Reading

I must be on a female comedian kick, because this week I finished up Tina Fey's autobiography, Bossypants.  This book is very similar in style to Mindy Kaling's.  Part autobiography, part advice and entirely hilarious!  If you didn't think this woman was brilliant before, than this book will absolutely prove her awesomeness to you!

June Favorites

June is definitely one of my favorite months, because it marks the end of school!  While we were quite lucky for a bit in June with some cool weather, it has heated up big time in the past two weeks.  This has led to me being very lazy in terms of my hair and makeup.

From L to R, top to bottom:

*Beauty Secrets Acetone Nail Polish Remover- I know that acetone remover isn't the best for nails, but I was using non-acetone for quite a while and had to scrub and scrub to get the polish off.  This is two swipes and I'm done!  I got this at Sally Beauty.

*Coco Lobo Candle from Slatkin & Co- OMG! Is this candle yum, yum, yummy! This is the ultimate sunscreen, summer, pina colada type scent.  I bought it during the 2 for $20 sale at Bath and Body Works and I have to say this is a much stronger candle than some of my Yankee Candles ones.

*Secret Outlast Deodorant- Ok girls, this is probably TMI, but I am sweater.  I hate it and it's gross, but it's the truth.  I bought this deodorant in a pack of 4 at Coscto, and it is AMAZING!  I apply this right after the shower in the evening and in the morning and I'm pretty darn impressed with the results.

*Mally Beauty Eye Shadow Stick in Twilight- I've just been so lazy with my makeup lately, that a swipe of this shadow and some brown liner is my daily look.

*Starfish Earrings- I love, love, love these Starfish earrings!  My dad bought them for me in Cape Cod and they are just the ultimate summer earrings.  I also have been loving stud type earrings lately.

*Shabala Bracelet- These bracelets have become so popular recently! My blue and silver version is from a local jewelry store, but these can be found anywhere online, especially ebay and etsy.
