August Glossybox

I love getting mail.  I'm such a kid when it comes to getting mail.  Last week I was in Cape Cod and I would ask my mom everyday if I got mail.  I think that's why I've kept some of these beauty subscription services.

This month's Glossybox was a really great one in terms of products and size of products.  Despite me loving Glossybox, I've decided this month's box is going to be my last one.  I spend $22 a month on Glossybox and only really, really use maybe one product per box.  Plus, some of these products are so expensive for the full price version, that I know I would never buy them full size anyway.  I'd rather use  the $22 on something that I pick out for myself and not a random assortment of products.

So here's my last Glossybox post!

From top to bottom, L to R:

*Ellis Lips by Ellis Faas ($35 for .095 oz- I received a full size product)- So right with this one product I got more than my money's worth with this Glossybox.  I received a Creamy Lips lip color in L107.  The packaging of this product is awesome.  Unfortunately, it's a color I couldn't make work for me if I even tried.

*Nail Varnish by Illamasqua in Alarm ( $14 for .5 oz- I received a full size product)- I've heard a lot about this brand, but have never tried any of their products.  I like this bright red color and can't wait to try it out for fall.

*ExquisiteOil Replenishing Treatment by Biolage ($22 for 3.1 oz- I received .16 fl oz)- This product is said to provide instant shine and weightless replenishment to all hair types.  I'm trying to find a good hair serum, so I'm excited to give this a whirl.

*Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base by Touch in Sol ($20 for 1.13 oz- I received 1.06 fl oz)- This primer is said to firm and revitalize the skin and allow for a better makeup application.  I love a good primer, so this will be on my list to use after I finish my Body Shop primer.

*Truth Serum by Ole Henriksen ($48 for 1 oz- I received .5 fl oz)- I've received this before in a QVC Beauty Tube, but haven't tried it.  After reading the description and more information on Sephora.com, i plan to begin using this serum.  The product description states this serum "helps smooth out lines and wrinkles, fights environmental aggressors and keeps skin moisturized, nourished and protected."

Does anyone else feel like sometimes these Beauty Boxes are a waste?  Maybe I'm just crazy!

Fall Fashion Lust List

Fall is seriously my favorite clothing season.  The colors, the boots, the layers, the total lack of humidity- it's just the best!  I've put together a decent fall wardrobe, but of course there are some key pieces that I'm missing and lusting after!

♥ Faux leather jacket

I love this faux leather jacket from Lulus.com.   I have a black leather jacket but it's a bit on the boxy side and not as slim fitting as this one.  For under $100, this one is not too shabby!

♥ Chiffon Button Down

I've been looking for the perfect chiffon button down and I really like the color (and the price) of this one from Pink Ice! I love the new more polished blouse like style that has been so big this summer and will likely carry over to the fall.

♥ Heart Sweater

It's not my typical style, but I really love this giant heart sweater from Target.  It's bright and fun and I think working with young children would allow me to get away with wearing it at work!

♥ Good leggings

I've been saying how I need a good pair of leggings for years now and I still haven't purchased a decent pair!  I use leggings as a base layer for a lot of my fall and winter outfits and I've heard good things about these American Apparel leggings.  $28 seems a bit steep for leggings, but considering how often I'd wear them I think it's well worth it.

♥ Printed Jeggings

I don't know if I could pull it off, but I really like these polka dot print AE jeggings.  If you are jeggings girl, I really recommend American Eagle.  They fit so well and they are made very well also.

♥ Rebecca Minkoff Clutch

Ok, so this is a TOTAL splurge item, which probably won't happen, but I have been loving all of the Rebecca Minkoff bags I've been seeing all over the blogosphere lately.  Her clutches are great and inspire me to move away from my oversized purse collection to a more streamlined purse.  I love this little beauty!

What's on your fall fashion lust list? I'd love to get some more fashion inspiration!

Tip Thursday: Dry your nails quicker!

I'm slowly started to getting the hang of an at home manicure.  One of my biggest problems is a total lack of patience when it comes to waiting for my nails to dry.  I've tried quick dry top coats and they still aren't quick enough for me.

I've googled tips on how to dry my nails faster and have tried quite a few of their suggestions, but my favorite involves dunking your fingers directly into a bowl of ice cold water.  Hold them there for about 30 seconds and voila- dry nails!

What is your favorite way to dry your nails faster or your favorite at home mani tip?

What I'm Watching and Reading This Week

What I'm Watching

I've really enjoyed seeing the "Products I Regret Buying" videos going around Youtube.  There are so many positive reviews on so many products out there, that sometimes I find them difficult to believe.  I know it sounds strange, but I enjoy seeing negative reviews.  It makes the guru doing them seem a bit more reliable to me.

Saaamage is not a guru I've discussed before, but I really enjoy her videos.  She uses and discusses a mix of affordable and high end products.  This "Products We Regret Buying" video with her cousin just cracks me up.

What I'm Reading

I'm in Cape Cod this week enjoying the beach and some time with my Grandma so no blogs for me.  I have been enjoying this book though I picked up at my local library.    The Beauty Diet goes into depth about how what you eat affects your skin and also discusses some great foods ( super foods) to incorporate into your diet to get a more glowing complexion.  It's scientific without being boring.

Hair Chalking 101

So if you follow me on Instagram (Melziebabee), you may have seen that last week I attempted hair chalking.  I wasn't going out anywhere or doing anything, I really just wanted to see how it would turn out and if it was something that I would want to try for going out our Halloween or anything like that.

I went down to my local craft store, Michaels, and bought this 36 piece set of soft pastels for only $3.21 after I used a coupon!

I wanted a set that had a lot of "peacock" colors- blues, greens, purples.  This one had a whole row and I was so excited to get to chalking.

I'm not going to do a tutorial, because there are plenty of them out there.  The specific one I used was this one from The Beauty Department.

I was worried about some of the colors being vibrant on my dark hair, but it turns out that my highlights and my medium brown color was perfect for the jewel tone colors I wanted.

August QVC Beauty Tube

I received my August QVC Beauty Tube in the mail a few days ago and I couldn't wait to rip it open.  Although this is not a monthly subscription service, I still consider it a beauty subscription service and this one is definitely my favorite!  It continues products in sizes where i do actually get to sample them for a substantial amount of time and has introduced me to one of my new favorite brands, Mally Beauty.

I feel the only downside of the Beauty Tube is there are sometimes some repeats, which I feel like are just "filler" items.

From L to R, back to front:

*Algenist Firming Cream- This is a brand that I've gotten several products from in past Beauty Tubes.  Most of these anti-aging products are too strong for my sensitive skin.  This firming cream I'm going to attempt to use on my neck and chest area.  That area can always use some firming!

*Bliss Lemon+Sage Body Butter- I've tried one or two products from Bliss and while I've been impressed, I haven't been impressed enough to justify their high price tags.  This smells yummy and I plan on throwing this in my gym bag.

*Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer- I am so excited to try this product!  I've been hearing and reading about this primer since I got into makeup.  I know this primer is super expensive, so I kind of hope I don't love it that much.

*Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Conditioner- I've watched a lot of QVC presentations on Ojon products, but have never really tried any high end hair products.  This conditioner is said to be for people with dry or damaged hair, so I will probably save this for the winter when my hair is feeling really fried.

*Philosophy Love Sweet Love Shampoo, Bath & Shower Gel- I feel like this is a filler item. I've received several of these Philosophy 3-in-1 products and while I like them, I really don't need another.

*Josie Maran Argan Oil- This is also my second time receiving this argan oil in a beauty tube.  I use the first one I received every now and then, but my facial skin did not take too kindly to this.  I haven't used it in my hair yet, I will probably try that next.

*Mally High Shine Liquid Lip Color- This was the product I was most excited about.  It's in Mally's signature color and is said to be a 4-in-1 product, lip primer, lip gloss, lipstick and lipliner all in one.  I swatched this color and love it! Can't wait to see how it wears on the lips.

*Laura Gellar Waterproof Eye Spackle Pen- I really have liked all of the Laura Gellar products I've tried and I'm very excited to try this one.  This is a primer and has light reflecting properties so can be used to brighten the eyelid and the inner corner.  Can't wait to try this!

Does anyone else get the QVC Beauty Tube? What do you guys think about it?

Tip Thursday: Layer Acne Meds

My skin has not been treating me so nicely this summer.  I've had breakout after breakout, and I've been finding the best way to treat these annoying spots is to layer acne treatments on the zits before going to sleep.  I use this store brand benzoyl peroxide gel covered with a dab of Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask.  I don't know if the Queen Helene's mask even reaches the breakout because of the salicylic acid, but it appears to be working to dry out these suckers even quicker.

What's your favorite tip or product to treat acne?

What I'm Watching and Reading This Week

What I'm Watching This Week

This isn't my normal beauty/fashion Youtube vid of the week, but I have watched this video WAY too many times.  I'm Team Coco all the way and Will Ferrel is just amazingly hilarious!  This video on Will's obvious pain over the KStew/RPatz breakup is just amazing.  If you need a good laugh, give this video a watch!

What I'm Reading This Week

I've featured some of Kate's hair videos on here before, but was surprised that I didn't feature her blog yet, All The Small Things.  Her blog is just so visually pretty.  She features her hair styles here, some fashion and beauty advice and little tidbits about her amazing personal decorating style.  I definitely recommend giving her blog a browse for some inspiration for hair, beauty and home!

I Think I Wanna Marry You..... :personal post:

Ok, so this is a personal post with a fashion twist!

Last weekend my best friend of 22 years got married to her boyfriend of 10 years!  I was so honored to be one of her maid of honors and let me tell you, this was a fashionable wedding!

Rehearsal Dinner

The rehersal dinner was at a great Italian restaurant in the Bronx, and we had a great time!

This is some of the bridal party.  Ally (the bride) took her mother's wedding dress and had it tailored to this white mini dress for the rehearsal dinner.  I think that is such a great idea!!!  It's a great way to pay homage to her mother and reuse a dress that would probably just continue to sit in storage forever.

My yellow dress is from Joyce Leslie and I want to wear it as much as possible.  The layered pearl necklace is from Bella's of Cape Cod.

Wedding Day

I've heard a lot of horror stories about bridesmaid dresses, but boy did we luck out!  Ally's color scheme was black and white and how lucky were we to have a little black dress as our bridesmaid dresses!

This is the other maid of honor Ali and myself.  We were sweating our a**es off most of the day!

Our shoes were AMAZING, but let me tell you, I would not recommend them for standing on one place for a long time.  After having to stand at the church and for the pictures, most of us were in absolute agony.  The shoes are from Nina and I got mine from Amazon.  I will be wearing them again, but for a much shorter night out.

My favorite accessory was this custom made shambala bracelet, which was my maid of honor gift.  I think it's absolutely stunning and something that I've already worn A LOT.  A custom made piece of jewelry is a great idea for a maid of honor/bridesmaid gift.  The maid of honors were given these three strand bracelets and the bridesmaids were given one strand versions of these.

For my hair, I chose this low messy bun.  I was originally going with a half up/half down style, but I knew I'd be way too hot so I went for this undone style.  I really love how it came out.

Finally a picture of the beautiful bride!  She got her dress at the famous Kleinfeld's and she looked like she was going to the Oscar's!  It was such a beautiful day and I was so happy to be a part of it!

Most Warn Tag..Summer Edition!

I've seen this Most Worn tag going around Youtube and decided to do a summer edition of it myself!  I love doing these tags and I love seeing what products some of my other fave beauty gurus are currently into.

Beauty Products

Most worn......

Nail polish- Sinful Colors in Glass Pink
I've heard a lot about Sinful Colors polishes and I bought quite a few at Walgreens when they were on sale.  This shimmery pink color is the perfect base for the popular glitter polishes this summer.  It does take a few coats to get it opaque, but it's very pretty.

Hair Product- Garnier Fructis Style Curl Calm Down Cream
It's summer and I just don't want to bother with my hair.  If I'm not attempting one of the heat less styles that I've shown on the blog earlier, I'm just scrunching my hair a bit.  This works nicely to bring out a little bit of my natural wave and to keep frizzies at bay.

Foundation (not pictures)- Revlon Whipped Creme Foundation
This product lives up to the hype!  It gives beautiful coverage and the staying power is pretty amazing!

Blush- NYX Cream Blush in Glow
I've had this product forever and I use this every day over the summer! The color is just beautiful and you only need a tiny, tiny bit!  This provides a great base for powder blush if you want a more dramatic look as well.

Bronzer- NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny
Is there not a beauty blogger or youtuber who doesn't love this bronzer? It's SUPER cheap, a great natural looking color and matte!  It's perfect for all over color and for contouring.  I'm pretty pale, even through the summer, so this is a great product for fair skinned beauties!

Lip Product- EOS Lip Balm
Can you see how gross this product is? I use and abuse this lip balm! EOS Lip Balms are my faves and they keep my lips silky smooth.

Mascara- CARGO Better-Than-Waterproof Mascara
I got this in a kit from Apothica.com quite a few months ago and I waited until summer to begin using it.  This is a great waterproof mascara and it provides nice length to my lashes.  I also like how it doesn't come off from sweat or humidity, but it comes off easily with makeup remover.

Eyeshadow- Mally Beauty Evercolor Shadow Stick (Twilight)
This eyeshadow stick is a beautiful bronzey color, perfect for summer, and I just prefer using cream shadows during the summer.  The staying power is great and while it does crease, it's such a subtle color and sheen, that it's barely noticeable.

Fashion Products

Most worn.....

Bag- White leather and nude/tan logo Coach bag
I bought this bag a few summers ago at a Coach Outlet, and it's my go to summer bag.  I'm not one who can change their purse with every outfit.  I just have too much stuff and I've tried those in-bag organizers, but it just doesn't work for me.  This baby is my go to.

Shoes- Crocs Adrina Flat
Never, ever did I think I would EVER wear a pair of Crocs.  I saw these on quite a few Youtube Guru's channels, and when I went to read the reviews at Amazon I was pretty impressed.  I love cute shoes, but I guess I must have crappy feet, because if I'm doing a lot of walking and wearing just sandals or flats, my legs will be in AGONY afterwards.  These shoes are so comfy and I think they are pretty darn cute.

Accessory- Bella's of Cape Cod Starfish Earrings
I love my Starfish "diamond" earrings from Bella's of Cape Cod.  To me they are so summery, and I just like the idea of studs during the summer since my hair is mostly up anyway.

Clothing Item- American Eagle Floral Print Summer Dress
I LOVE this vintage-y looking sundress from American Eagle.  The sweetheart neckline and buttons down the bust are so feminine.  I've worn this to work, just hanging out with my girls and on dates.  It's a great multipurpose dress!

As summer is winding down, I'd love to see what you gals most worn items are!

July Favorites

Oh no!! I can't believe that July is over.  That means back to work in just a few short weeks.  While I have been quite lazy this summer, I'm still having a great summer and I'd like August to go nice and slow!!

It has been disgustingly hot and humid in NYC and so my favorites are kind of minimal this month since most makeup would just sweat right off my face anyway!

From L to R, top to bottom:

Arbonne Shower Gel in Ginger Citrus- I got this little guy as a Christmas present from one of my coworkers and just began using it this month.  It smells soo0o0o0o good!  I really like masculine scents and the smell of most colognes, and this reminds me a subtle men's cologne.  It doesn't get super sudsy, but it feels and smells nice on the skin.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation in 220 Nude- I totally jumped on the bandwagon with this stuff!  I'm not going to do a review, because I know that you all have probably seen a million reviews, but I do really like this foundation.  My friend Ally tried it and hated it because she said she felt it on her skin.  I don't feel this stuff at all and its staying power is quite nice in this summer heat.  However, I can tell for me at least this will strictly be a summer foundation, because the skin around my nose is still a bit dry and it doesn't look too hot on dry skin.

NYX For Your Eyes Only Smokey Eyes Palette- I have had this palette for quite a while, but just began using it again.  I brought this to Atlantic City with me and it was perfect in creating a dramatic evening eye and a subtle day eye.  There's a little fall out with this shadow so I always apply it prior to applying my face makeup.

Wet and Wild Color Icon Blush in Pearlescent Pink- I've heard a lot about this blush on Youtube and blogs and I don't know why I waited so long to try this stuff out!  The pigmentation is amazing for a blush this cheap and it's a beautiful color.  This color is quite shimmery though, so if you're not a fan of shimmer this blush won't be for you.

Bare Minerals All-Over Color in Warmth- This is another product that I've had for quite a while and just rediscovered it.  It's a great matte bronzer, but it only works for me during the summer when I have a little color.  I actually like adding a little bit of this to a tinted moisturizer to make a it a bit darker.

What are your favorite products this month?

Tip Thursday: Bobby Pins and Hairspray

I've been playing around with my hair a lot more lately, especially with all of the fantastic hair tutorials on Youtube and sometimes my bobby pins don't always stay put.  I like to spray my bobby pin with a little bit of hairspray, or spray the hair and then put it in the bobby pin for a little extra hold.

What I'm Reading and Watching This Week

What I'm Watching This Week

I really love SarahBelle93x's Youtube vids.  Her preppy J. Crew inspired style is right up my alley and she just has a cute and bubbly personality.  This video on 4 ways to knot a belt is very quick and informative!

What I'm Reading This Week

The blog, A Beautiful Mess, just makes me want to be a better person haha.  The recipes, DIY projects and artwork on this blog are just beautiful.  It's written by two sisters and they even offer some Ecourses.  I'm interested in taking their blogging e-course.
