Sell Your Stuff!

It's currently Black Friday and I am broke!  I spent such an obscene amount of money on gifts within the past 12 hours.  Tis the season for giving and I definitely plan on giving a lot this year!

I'm always looking for ways to make a few extra bucks and I found a great way to do that and to clean out my closet!  It is called Twice!

Twice is a website where women can sell their gently used name brand clothing.  The site buys clothing from brands like Gap and higher (higher end than Gap).  You can even request a pre-paid mailer from them to send them your clothes.  Prior to sending your clothes in you can search to see if they accept the brands.

A few weeks ago I sent in 11 items of clothing.  The brands included Express, Banana Republic Outlet, Ann Taylor Loft and Gap.  About 2 weeks after I mailed in the items I got an offer via email.  Twice offered me $27 for 9 items of my clothing.  They stated the reasons they didn't accept the other 2 items and what's great is they donate these items to Good Will or I can have them sent back to me!  I opted to donate them.

Now some of you may be saying that $27 for 9 items of clothing isn't that great.  However, these were all items that were just taking up room in my closet and I was probably just going to give them to someone anyway.  Instead, I used the prepaid mailer and made $27 that I can put towards more clothes!

If you opt to get a store credit instead of a check than you get more money, but around this busy holiday season I need the cash.

The store stocks some super cute items and you can really grab some bargains if you hunt around through the stock.

When you sign up they offer you a personal invite code, mine is HERE!  This gives you $10 to shop and me! It's a win-win!

Have you ever used Twice?  What do you do with your clothes that you're sick of?

Detox for the Holidays

The holidays are officially amongst us!  For some of us that means probably eating a bit more than usual, maybe eating more sweets and even indulging in more drinks that you may be used to.  In the middle of all this madness it may be quite easy to forget about your health or your diet.  The week after Thanksgiving I feel is the perfect week to do a bit of a detox or a cleanse!

A few weeks ago I decided to do Team Taralynn's Cleanse.  I did a lot of research on DIY type cleanses or detoxes and this one seemed to be the easiest and healthiest.  It didn't involve only juices for days at a time, only eating cabbage soup or things like that.  This cleanse involved eating real food and didn't involve starvation!

The cleanse is 7 days long and is broken into three phases.  Phase one is basically a lesson on clean eating.  This phase includes eating three balanced meals a day and consuming as many veggies as your heart desires!  Taralynn also includes tons of meal ideas.  Phase three is exactly the same thing, which is awesome!

My favorite lunch and dinner for phases one and three were grilled chicken with broccoli and brown rice.  Add in the right seasonings and this meal is actually quite delicious.

Phase 2, which lasts 2 days, consists of eating only fruit.  At first I was quite scared of this phase, but got along with it just fine.  Unbeknownst to me prior to starting this cleanse, avocado and tomato are actually fruits.  So for breakfast and snacks I had some smoothies and for lunch and dinners I had avocado and tomato salads.

My primary reason for doing this cleanse was to see if I could actually do it.  My biggest weakness is my willpower and this cleanse was really a test of feats for me.  I was proud to say that I made it 5 days through this cleanse!  I wanted to make it 7, but I did it the week of Halloween and knew I would be drinking that weekend.

My secondary reason for doing this was to jumpstart a weight loss.  In 5 days of doing this cleanse I lost 4 pounds.  Also, in the three weeks since I've done the cleanse I have kept 3 pounds off!  I'm quite proud.

Tips and tricks:
*Drink the herbal tea she mentions!  I don't drink herbal tea, but I should've forced myself to drink it for the caffeine alone.  The withdrawl headaches I had were horrendous!
*Have everything prepared!  Bring tons of fruits and vegetables with you to work or out so you aren't tempted.
*Drink tons of water!  It helps keep you full and helps ward off any headaches.
*Tell your friends and family.  You don't want them offering you something you may have a difficult time giving up!

Tip Thursday: Freeze Your Fruit

I have been loving green smoothies lately.  My immune system has never been the best and I know I'm not eating enough fruits and vegetables so this a great way to get a boost of nutrition.

I saw a tip on Youtube to make a big batch of smoothie ingredients and then put them in individual serving size ziploc baggies and freeze it together.  It's what I've been doing lately and it's so easy I can just pop these frozen goodies into my blender with some water and chia seed and I've got myself a boost of nutrition!

Sweater Weather Tag

I've seen this Sweater Weather Tag going around Youtube and since Fall is one of my favorite seasons I just had to do this one!

1.  Favorite Candle Scent?

My dad got me Autumn Wreath from Yankee Candle and I'm obsessed!  It smells like warmth and baking pies and spices.  If you haven't been to Yankee Candle yet, I suggest going and checking out some of their new scents.

2.  Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?

I'm a huge fan of lattes and who can resist a cup of hot chocolate?  I've been trying to get into teas, but it's not going well so far.

3.  What's the best fall memory you have?

My grandparents used to take me apple picking and to the pumpkin patch every fall.  Anytime spent there with them was amazing.

4.  Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged liner?

I am dying to jump on the dark lips trend.  I'm a bit nervous, but I need to grab some Wet and Wild lipsticks and test away.

5.  Best fragrance for fall?

Still on the hunt!  Any suggestions?

6.  Favorite Thanksgiving food?

Mashed potatoes and gravy!  I'm not a huge turkey fan so I pretty much only eat carbs with mashed potatoes and biscuits.

7.  What is autumn weather like where you live?

Autumn lasts only a few weeks by me and then it's just beyond freezing.  I've been trying to wear my peacoat lately, but it's time to break out the ski jacket.

8.  Most worn sweater?

I love this royal blue American Eagle sweater.  I own only fitted sweaters, so I want to invest in some oversized/cozy type sweaters.

9.  Must have nail polish this fall?

I'm not big into polishes, but I usually turn to OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark for the fall season.

10.  Football games or jumping in leaf piles?

I'm hoping this means watching football games because that's all I do in the fall pretty much!

11.  Skinny jeans or leggings?

Can I say both?  I wear skinnies pretty much every day, but nothing beats the comfort of a pair of leggings.

12.  Combat boots or Uggs?

I never really got into combat boots, so I guess Uggs.

13.  Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?

I dislike pumpkin flavored products intensely.

14.  Favorite Fall TV show?

I have been loving Sleepy Hollow.  Ichabod is sexy!

15. What song really gets you in the spirit?

I guess the Penn State fight song.  I really am a football girl.

DIY Yoga Mat Cleanser

I work out at home in my carpeted living room typically so I rarely use a yoga mat.   However, I realized that my palms and knees were starting to get carpet burn so I purchased a cheap yoga mat at Tj Maxx.  After a couple of uses it began to smell and feel a bit funky.  I didn't want to spray it down with some general cleanser because I roll all over that thing so I began looking up natural alternatives.  I found a simple recipe and made up my own natural and cheap yoga mat cleanser!

Supplies Needed:
*Empty spray bottle (I used an old Lush bottle I had laying around)
*Water
*White Vinegar
*Tea Tree Oil
*Essential/Scented Oil (optional)

Directions

Step 1: Thoroughly clean out spray bottle
Step 2: Fill 2/3 of the way up with tap water
Step 3: Fill close to 1/3 (leave a little bit for the oil) with the vinegar
Step 4: Add about 7-8 drops of tea tree oil
Step 5: Add a scented or essential oil since the combo of the vinegar and tea tree oil isn't the best scent. I had only one scented oil around which was Pearberry so I added a few drops (add however little or many you want depending on the strength of scent)
Step 6: Shake, Shake, Shake

Voila! You have a super natural and super effective yoga mat cleanser.  After each use spray the mat and wipe down and it'll be nice and fresh for the next sweat session!

Tip Thursday: DIY Cute Desk

So many moons ago I decided I needed a white desk.  I use my desk as mainly my makeup station so this doesn't always leave my surface sparkling clean.  I've used a plain desk blotter in the past to protect the area, but I wanted it to be cute as well.

I purchased a pretty piece of flat wrapping paper and slapped it under the plastic desk blotter and VOILA- instant cuteness!

The Many Uses of Jojoba Oil

A few weeks ago I ordered jojoba oil from Vitacost.com.  I ordered it mainly to use as a carrier oil for tea tree oil to use as an acne treatment.  After buying such a decent size though I decided to do some research on the other uses of Jojoba oil.  Here are some of the suggestions I came across:

*Eye and face makeup remover- Apply a few drops to a cotton pad and use to remove face or eye makeup.  Rinse off with water and follow up with your regular cleanser.

*Use as a facial moisturizer- Now this is one that I see a lot of raves about, but also a lot of rants about. People either say this gives you the most smooth and plump skin ever or breaks you out like crazy.  As my skin has been misbehaving lately I'm not going to be trying this.

*Body Moisturizer- Apply right after you get out of bath or shower to lock in moisture.

*Add a few drops to a bath for a moisturizing soak.

*Apply oil to hands or feet, wrap in cellophane and add some socks and gloves for an hour or so for a super luxe treatment.

*Add a few drops to your scalp and gently massage.  Make sure to double shampoo out.

*Use a quarter size drop to apply to damp hair (concentrating on ends) and leave in for 10-15 minutes for a deep conditioning treatment.

*Use as a cuticle oil

*Apply to lips in place of lip balm

*Use a carrier oil for stronger essential oils

*Apply to wet hair prior to swimming to seal hair shaft

*Massage into stretchmarks to use as a lightening treatment

*Apply a teensy tiny amount to dry hair to use as a shine serum

As you can see one super affordable product has TONS of uses!

 Do you use jojoba oil?

Vitacost.com Haulage

So as previously stated I've been trying to incorporate more natural products into not only my beauty routine, but to every part of my life.
Pretty much every natural beauty blogger and vlogger I subscribe to purchases a lot of their products from Vitacost.com.  So using a $10 off code I went ahead and placed a small purchase.  Here's the goodies I got!!

*Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy-
This harmonizing and aromatic blend is designed to help energize and elevate your mood. an intriguing and delicious blend of Organic Assam Black and Green Mate in combination with Ashwagandha, Shankpushpi and Tulsi-herbs traditionally used to uplift the spirit helps to positively influence your mood. Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy combines sweet, floral Lotus Flower flavor with Tangerine flavor and Lemon Myrtle for a bright and spirited tea that's sure to leave you smiling.

I've been wanting to get into teas for quite a while.  I love the taste of tangerine so I decided to order this.  I haven't tried it yet, but I'm hoping it will like it!

*Organic Smooth Move Tea-

  • Created by Herbalists
  • Relieves Occasional Constipation
  • Senna Stimulant Laxative • Naturally Caffeine Free
  • USDA Organic

This is technically a laxative tea.  Let's see how effective it is!

*Glonaturals BB Cream

Get your glow on! Perfectly even, hydrated, flawless-looking skin in a single step – glonaturals™ BB Cream is a skincare and makeup multitasker that makes looking beautiful… easy.

I haven't seen a lot of examples of natural BB creams, and this one had pretty positive reviews.  Can't wait to try this out once my skin stops sucking so badly.

*Desert Essence Jojoba Oil

Desert Essence® Jojoba Oil is a pure and natural plant extract that will penetrate and moisturize your skin without leaving any oily residue. This luxurious oil can be used to remove makeup and to cleanse clogged pores, leaving the skin clean. Soften your hands and feet by massaging them with Jojoba Oil after bathing. Treat your hair and scalp to a rejuvenating massage with Jojoba Oil - especially good for moisturizing the scalp and to prevent dry skin or flakiness. Suitable for even the most sensitive skin. May be used as a leave in hair treatment or as an aftershave moisturizer.

I've been reading how Jojoba oil is a great carrier oil and also the many uses it has.  I plan on using this in conjunction with my tea tree oil as a spot treatment.

*Raw Honey-

Raw honey that is fully crystallized, energy-packed and in its true raw, solid state. Its purity provides the maximum level of natural antioxidants and healing agents as a functional food. YS Eco Bee Farms Raw Honey is pesticide-free, herbicide-free, pollutant-free and specially cared.

My skin is just beyond horrendous lately.  I have tiny break outs and massive breakouts all over my chin and below my nose.  I'm hoping that using raw honey as a face wash will help in clearing some of this up.

*Desert Essence Coconut Shampoo

Bring back shine and health to over-processed, dry hair. Infused with organic coconut oil to provide intense moisture, smooth frizzies, and restore hair's natural luster. With continued use, hair looks revived, strong, and healthy.

I've been able to find a lot of natural skin care and makeup products but hair products has been more difficult.  I've heard a lot of great things about this brand's hair products so I decided to start out with one product to see how I like it.

I loved Vitacost.com's prices and their quick shipping.  I will definitely be purchasing more items from there as I add more natural products to my wish list.

Vitacost also has a great referral program.  If you use my link to place an order you get $10 off your order and I get $10 off mine!  You know I love me some deals!

Current Empties....Again!

It's about that time that I go through my trash again for you all!  I've finished up a lot of skin care products in the past few months, which I am very proud of.  Some of these products aren't actually empty, they were just terrible!

I'm Sorry for total lack of pics!! This post was in my drafts and now I can't find the pics anywhere!!! :( TOTAL FAIL!

SKIN CARE

*Freeman Purifying Paper Maks Star Fruit- I got this sheet mask in my Ipsy Glam Bag last month and it was HORRIBLE!  It not only burned my skin, but my eyes were in agony.  I took it off almost immediately and my eyes stayed red and irritated for almost an hour afterwards.  Definitely will not be purchasing!

*Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil- I got this free sample in either this month's issue of Glamour or Cosmo.  I've been giving myself facial massages once a week and I got two uses out of this sample.  It's a nice, light oil with a pleasant smell.  No break outs resulted from it, so I may look into purchasing this.

*Nature Republic Blackhead Break- I got this from my Tammy love.  I think this Nature Republic strips are so much more effective than Biore's Pore Strips.  This will definitely be a repurchase for me.

*Raspberry Roots Collagen Eye Mask- I've had this eye mask for quite a while and used it after a particularly rough night out.  I keep these in the fridge and the cold along with the mask itself results in a nice tightening effect.  I don't know if I will repurchase these exactly, but I will definitely be purchasing more eye masks.

*Kirkland Daily Facial Toilettes- We already know I love this makeup remover wipes.  This may be the last batch I buy though.  I've been using the Ken Gho Do cleansing water as a makeup remover and I've been enjoying it so far.

*The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost- This product lasted an amazingly long time.  I used this for my primer and I really enjoyed it.  I'm going to try the Tarte Poreless Primer next, but if that doesn't work I will be going back to this one.

*100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Eye Cream- There's a little bit of this left, but it's pretty much impossible to get out!  I've had this for over a year and I really liked it.  It's all organic and it sinks in quite quickly.  Right now I'm using Yes for Grapefruits eye cream, but I will most likely be going back to this eye cream.

*Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion- Clinique lotions normally dry me out, but this one is ok when used sporadically.  I used this once a week when I stayed at my dad's house.  I don't plan on purchasing this item.

*Clinique Clinical Even Better Dark Spot Corrector- This product did a decent job on lightening my acne scars. I wasn't blown away by the results so I most likely won't be repurchasing.  However, my skin has taken a turn for the worst lately so I may have to go back to this.

*Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover- I received this sample from a friend.  It did a decent job at removing my eye makeup, but Mary Kay is not a cruelty free company so I won't be repurchasing.

MAKEUP/NAILS

*Laura Gellar Balance and Brighten- This was a smaller size of this product and it lasted me FOREVER!  I never used this as a foundation on its own as it didn't provide enough coverage for me.  I used this as a setting powder and it was beautiful.  It blends seamlessly and just bumps up the coverage of any foundation you have own.  Depending on  if I can find a decent deal on QVC I may repurchase this.

*Prestige My Biggest Lashes Mascara- This is fabulous drugstore mascara!  It's super dark and really thickens and lengthens your lashes.  I have tons of mascaras to go through so this probably won't be a repurchase though.

*Tarte EmphasEYES Aqua-Gel Liner- I think I received this in a QVC Beauty Tube and I HATED it! It was way too soft and creamy to ever get a precise line.  I tried freezing this as I thought maybe my room was too hot and I still got the same messy results.  Total fail.

*China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat- This product was another fail.  It was way too goopy and no matter how tightly I closed the lid, it would still leak.  Definitely will not be repurchasing.

HAIR

*Finesse Self Adjusting Curl Defining Mousse- This product actually isn't empty, I just had to throw it away.  This product turned my hair into a greasy mess.  I can see why it was on clearance.

*Beyond the Zone Noodle Head- This is another product that isn't empty, but had to go.  It did nothing for my hair and really just felt like the consistency of water.  It was just taking up space in my collection.

*Samy Instant Recurl- Also, not an empty!  This made my hair so limp and actually took any curl or wave OUT of my hair.  It weighed down my hair WAY too much.

MISC

*BBW Black Raspberry Vanilla Soap- Oh this stuff smells SO good!  I never used this scent before and think I won this at a bridal or baby shower, but I loved it.  Will be looking into purchasing more products in this scent.

*Colgate Optic White Toothpaste- This stuff is awesome at whitening my teeth, but unfortunately Colgate is not a cruelty free company so I am going to do my best to find a cruelty free alternative.

*Venus Spa Breeze Razor Cartridge- These razors are awesome, but yet again Venus is not a cruelty free company.  Any recommendations on cruelty free brand razors?

*BBW Snowberry Antibacterial Gel- I go through antibacterial gels so slowly as I'm an avid hand washer.  This was a great scent and I love these little pocket sizes!

*Nature Republic Cotton Squares- Oh these are THE BEST!  My Tammy love sent me two more boxes and they are literally like cotton gold.  Love these!

October Random Favorites

So my October random favorites, are as random as they get!

*PSU Circle Scarf- It's no doubt that I love my sports!  However, when I head out to a sports bar, I'm not only interested in cheering my boys on to victory, but maybe to check out a fella or two.  So I want to support my team, without looking like a boy.  This Penn State circle scarf is the perfect solution.  Throw this on over a black or white tee and look chic and sporty!

*Trader Joe's Sweet Potato Tortillas- I don't ever want to have regular tortillas again.  These sweet potato tortillas are so yummy!  I don't necessarily love them on their own, but with some guacamole or salsa they are a great alternative to whole flour tortillas.

*Avocados- I told you it was random!  Avocados have become one of my favorite fruits (yes, they are a fruit!).  I love having an entire avocado with some sliced cherry tomatoes as a delicious salad, or I use it as an alternative for creamy spreads on a sandwich.  I don't know how I waited so long to try this delicious food!

*Round Brush from Sally's- I went in to Sally's a few weeks ago to get a combination bristle brush. I wanted a brush with the plastic bristles and the softer bristles.  I picked this one up because I liked the size and the price.  I ended up loving it!  It makes my hair so smooth and is very light in the hand.

What are your random favorites this month?
Also, what's your favorite way to eat an avocado? I'm looking for suggestions!

October Beauty Favorites

October was a pretty tame month for me in terms of trying new products.  The past week or so my skin has been completely rebelling against me, that in conjunction with the fact that I just haven't felt myself lately, has led to a very boring month for me.

Here are the few products that did manage to put a smile on my face this past month.

*Mac Lipglass in Underage with Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting- This lip combo results in the ultimate milky pink color for me.  This isn't an every day look, but when paired with a dramatic eye it looks very pretty.

*Lush Roots Hair Treatment- I love Lush hair products and this one is no exception.  Now, I can't say I have noticed a difference in my hair or scalp, but this mask feels so delightful.  I apply it to my roots, along with an awesome self root massage, every Sunday.

*Jordana Twist and Shine Lip Balm Stain in Cranberry Crush- My Tammy love sent me this in September and I just love this shade!  This is the only Jordana lip product I own and I definitely want to try more.  This is also the perfect fall lip color.

*Jordana 12 Hour Made to Last Eyeshadow Pencil in Pink Evermore- This is also from my Tammy, and it's a product that I use almost every day!  This provides a beautiful shimmery base for my daily shimmery eye look.  It doesn't clump or crease and it doesn't come off as pink as it looks in the packaging.

*Josie Maran Argan Illuminzer- I believe I got this in Sephora's 2012 Glitz & Gleam Set.  I didn't really use it until last month and I really love it.  It's a beautiful subtle gold sheen and it feels so beautiful on the skin.  I have a lot of highlighters to go through, but I may consider purchasing this at some point.

What were your October beauty favorites?  What's your favorite cranberry lip color (I'm looking for more!)?
