Spring 2014 Fashion Wish list

Oh spring, where are you??  This past weekend in New York felt like spring was on its way.  Then I saw the weather forecast and to my dismay temps in the teens are forecasted for the rest of the week.
Jus because it's freezing out, doesn't mean I can't begin planning for spring (it is going to come, right?).  Here are some items on my fashion wish list for the Spring 2014 season.

 Sequin Elbow Patch Top

I have seen these tops ALL over Instagram and I'm mildly obsessed.  Spring is still pretty chilly in New York, so a sweater is necessary.  I've been loving longer length tops lately and this one is simple with just enough pizazz.

Coral Skinnies

I love colored jeans.  I only own three pairs so I think it's time to up my game.  Other than mint, what screams spring more than coral?  The Rockstar jean from Old Navy comes in tons of colors and short sizes so I will definitely be snatching a few up!

Slouchy Style Chambray

Last year I finally bought a fitted chambray, but now I want a lighter wash and slouchier fit.  I love these "oversized" chambray style shirts that can be work as a jacket or half tucked like in the picture above.  Most of the research I've done on these says American Eagle is the place to buy.

A grown up blouse

Ok Mel, you're almost 30, it's time to be a grown up and own an actual blouse.  I was recently looking through my wardrobe and there's not a whole lot of "mature" pieces in it.  I think this polka dot blouse is a great mixing of fun and mature.  Also, I've been hooked on the Loft lately AND they offer an educator discount!

Safari Style Jacket

I can't visit a style blog or open a fashion magazine with out seeing tons of picture of these "safari" style jackets.  I love this one from Old Navy because it has a cinch at the waist.  I also love the look of it with the sleeves rolled up.

Striped Blazer

Another item that I've been seeing on TONS of style blogs are striped blazers!  I like the boldness of a striped blazer and this ponte one looks super comfortable as well.

Check out all of these items (most under $50!) on my Spring Wish List Luvocracy page!

So here are a few items that are on my spring fashion wish list.  Are any of these items on your wish list?  Any must have items I missed out on?

Julep Maven Box

I have been tempted for months to try out the Julep Maven Box.  The Julep Maven Box is a monthly nail polish box that normally contains 2 polishes and one nail care product.  It costs $19.99 a month.  When I kept seeing a code for a free box swirling around I thought I might as well try it.  Quite frankly I was hoping to be blown away to justify the $20 a month price since I'm not a nail polish junky.  Let's find out if I was.

I love the packaging and the presentation.  I'm not a pink fan at all, but I love the box and the pamphlets that come with it.

I got the Bombshell Box and it came with 2 polishes, 2 little filing cubes and a nail and cuticle serum.

The first color I received was Zelda, which is described as a pink champagne metallic.

Swatch taken from Julep Site

The second color I received was Kendra which is described as an army green frost.

The third major product I received was the Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum which is described as:

While I love that the nail polishes are "4 free", I just can't justify spending $20 on 2 nail polishes every month.  I would like to order some single polishes from here though to play around with.

Are you a Julep Maven?  Should I give it one more month?

Some Atlantic City OOTN's

One of my good friends and I decided to venture out to Atlantic City for a few days, since we were on vacation this week.  It's been quite a while since I've been out and about in a fancy way and I knew Atlantic City was the perfect opportunity to go big!  Since we were getting a bit dolled up, I decided to have my friend and I take some blog pics to do some outfit posts!

Clubbing Night

If anyone has been to the Borgota in Atlantic City I'm sure you've heard of their club Mur-mur.  Monday is their big club night and we braved the ridiculously long line to get in.  Turns out is way too crowded to even dance in and we were in and out in maybe an hour!

Dress: Express
Shoes: (pictured later) TJ Maxx

How perfect is my friend Brianne?  Girls, don't hate her! She's stunning and the sweetest person ever.
Blazer: Victoria's Secret
Bra top: Victoria's Secret
Shorts: Express
Shoes: Nine West

The next night we were just going out to dinner and doing some gambling so we weren't as dressed up.

Top: Venus
Leggings: Charming Charlies
Heels: (didn't realize how damn squat these made my legs look) Coach via TJ Maxx
Bracelet: Gifted
Earrings: Jewelmint

Top: Express
Necklace: Gifted
Jeans: Express
Shoes: BCBG

All in all, it was an amazing mini getaway and Brianne has inspired me to shop exclusively at Express haha.

Makeup Area Redo

My makeup area was getting a little out of control.  I have been wanting to purchase the Muji drawers for quite a while, and finally I purchased myself two drawers for my birthday.  If you have been debating purchasing these, I say do it!  My room has a bit of a shabbier chic vibe and while these are a bit on the modern side, they are so simple that they can be adapted to fit in with my decor.

Here's my before…A MESS!

I was using a combination of plastic drawers, and fabric covered trays to organize a majority of my cosmetics.  While I liked the set up at first, it got annoying lifting the trays to look for items and the fabric got dirty so quickly.

AFTER…BEAUTIFUL!

After some collection weeding and cleaning, I streamlined my collection into these beautiful Muji drawers.  The top is the Large Acrylic Case with Lid and the bottom is the 5 Drawer Acrylic Case, which has much more narrow drawers.  I definitely plan on visiting the Muji store in the city and picking up one or two more of either of these.

Both cases stacked on top of each other

Foundations, BB Creams, Concealers, Finishing Powders

 Blushes

 Bronzers and highlighters

 Lipsticks, butters and balms

 Lipglosses

Eyeshadow Palettes

Eyeshadows, Liners, Shadow sticks

Now I'm not going to show you the rest of my makeup area, because I am still working on perfecting it, but for a majority of my makeup storage, I love it!!  These drawers are a great value and amazing to store your makeup in.  I prefer the two drawer over the 5, because they fit bulkier products, but the 5 drawer is amazing too.  If you've been hesitating to purchase these, don't!!!

My First Fortune Cookie Soap Box: Spring 2014 Edition

I feel like I'm a subscription box whore- I bounce from box to box!  I don't want to waste money on a variety of subscription boxes, so I like to experiment and give a box or bag a try for 6 months- a year. I have yet to find a box that made me want to stick with it, so on to the next one I go.

I've heard a lot about The Soap Box from Fortune Cookie Soap and I wanted to give it a whirl.  Boxes ship out 4 times a year for $19.99.  Each box has a different theme that usually goes along with the season.  Previous box themes have included Nightmare Before Christmas, Grinch and Hunger Games.

The boxes include 8 mini sized products containing exclusive Fortune Cookie Soap (FCS) products.  The products vary from body butters, body washes, soaps, shampoo bars and various other bath and body products.  Each box also includes a $10 gift certificate to use on the site- awesome!

So take a look into my first FCS Soap Box which was broken into the "Goods and the Evils".

The Goods

Oddly enough I LOVED all of the "good" products and was not a fan of the scent of the "evil" products.

*Native Nectar Body Wash- Fresh, cracked coconut.
Oh lord this stuff smells amazing!  I adore the smell of coconut so this was an instant hit for me.

*Afternoon Delight OCD- Pink watermelon dancing with fresh apricots, crowned in white florals.
OCD is their version of hand sanitizer and this stuff smells AMAZING.  It sort of reminds me of that strawberries and champagne scent from VS.  This automatically went into my purse.

*Marshmallow Dreams Cuticle Butter- Lavender sprigs draped over sage and basil, livened with a splash of vodka, and a swirl of sticky sweet marshmallow fluff.
This scent reminds me of a sweet and "garden" scent combined.  This stuff is super emollient is really needed for this horrible Northeast weather.

The Evils

The evil products had a very hippy floral type of scent which is not my cup of tea, but I will be trying a few of these products and probably giving a few away.

*Venus Fly Perfume Oil- Bargamot, narcaisse and musk lurk beneath delicate notes of water orchid, sparkling lemon and pink jasmine.
This is a very heavy type of scent with subtle notes of jasmine and citrus.  If it was more on the jasmine/citrus side I would be all over it, but I don't care for this scent.

*Make it Rain Whipped Cream- Sparkling droplets of citrus and jasmine dripping with musk, clutched by bloated cedar wood boughs.
Again, this scent isn't my cup of tea but it's the most doable of the "evil" products and I really want to see if I like the body butter to order it in a  different scent so I will be using this little guy.

*The Bloom Bloom Room Bath Fizzy- A sinfully sweet combination of jasmine, lilac and lilly of the valley darkened with throbbing musical notes of fresh peach and citrus, all swirling around poles of decadent spun sugar.
This is a bit floral for my liking, but it does have a sweet note to it as well so I do like it.

*Me So Thorny Steam Me Up Scotty!- Citrus, lavender and french vanilla corrupted by a dark shadow of patchouli and sandalwood.
This is a product that you put in your shower out of the stream of the water and the scent fills your shower.  I don't smell the citrus, lavender or vanilla in this one at all and only smell the super strong scents of patchouli and sandalwood.  This will be one I'm giving away.

*Forbidden Fruit Fortune Cookie Soap- Dusky verbena creeping over fresh blueberry skins and lemon zest.
This soap is strange, at first scent I don't like it, but then on second whiff I enjoy it.  And seriously, how cute is this damn soap???

Are you a subscriber to the Fortune Cookie Soap Box? Have you ever tried anything from their line?  I think I'm hooked to some of these products already!

Tips for Making Your Makeup Last

As this is a blog for my fabulous budget minded beauties, I was contacts by HSN about a recent blog post they did on saving makeup, saving money.  I decided to share some of their great tips and add a few of my own!

1. Build a Better Makeup Bag

At times, I look through my stash and find no fewer than a dozen variations of the exact same lip shade. None of these products get used consistently and they mostly end up expiring before I can even scratch the surface. I've learned that by better editing my purchase decisions, I can make sure that I have a variety of products that I use more frequently – and I’m more likely to use them to the very last drop.

*Fabulously Thrifty Tip- Keep a list on your phone or planner of colors, finishes, products that you want or feel your collection lacks.  Hopefully this will keep you from purchasing 5 of the same shades of coral.

2. Clean your Brushes

Not only are makeup brushes expensive, but they also touch all of your makeup. By keeping them clean, not only are you extending their life, but also the life of your products. Keeping powders and blushes free and clear of oils and bacteria that tend to break them down will help them live a longer life.

*Fabulously Thrifty Tip- Washing is super important, but just as important is the way you dry them!  Try to dry them with the brush head facing downwards so water can't enter the ferule and eat away at the glue.

3. Keep it Pretty

You will never find my hard earned makeup knocking around in a vanity drawer or at the bottom of my purse. Oh, the horror! I’m careful to keep my beauty treasures tucked inside of pouches when I’m on the go or on a tray sitting on my vanity at home. This way, there’s far less chance that they will crack or explode, wasting precious product.

*Fabulously Thrifty- Traveling with a palette?  I tend to keep my palettes separate when traveling and wrapping them in towels or wash cloths to keep them safe.

4. Scrape the Bottom

I recently discovered these little spatulas that you can use to actually scrape the bottom of your makeup bottles to get to the very end of them. I’ve also been known to use them after cutting open tubes of concealer and lip glossto collect one final application. Brilliant!

5. Portion Control

It may go without saying, but using only what you need can really make your makeup last. I found that I was always left with unneeded foundation or extra moisturizer after applying, so I downsized my dose and I’m wasting less. Making other small changes like not spraying my fragrance into the air and walking through it has also helped!

*Fabulously Thrifty- Apply concealer after foundation.  A lot of foundation application methods will just wipe away concealer, which means you will need to apply more.

How do you guys make your makeup last longer?

My Favorite Instagram Accounts

I must admit, I am Instagram obsessed.  It is pretty much replaced Facebook and Twitter as my social media platform of choice.  Since I'm constantly checking it, I thought I might as well share my ten favorite Instagram accounts.  It was difficult to narrow it down, but I did it!

Fitalicious_Me

Fitalicious is my favorite Instagram account to get yummy clean eating recipes.  If you scroll through my phone's photo album I have SO many of her recipes saved.

Glitterguide is just an instagram full of pictures that make me happy to be a girl.  This is a great source to get beautiful wallpapers for your phone or computer.

PLLFeed

I am Über obsessed with Pretty Little Liars and PLLFeed is a great account for fellow "liars".  However, if you don't watch episodes as they air I would avoid this account as some spoilers could pop up.

So my PLL obsession continues.  Ashley Benson's account is one of my favorite celeb accounts.  She's my best friend in my head.

I frequently drool over the beautiful outfits Abbie or AllThingsTiffanyBlue posts.  She just started a blog so I expect to be drooling more!

If you look at home workouts or are sick of the same gym routines I highly recommend this instagram account.  The chiseled guys don't hurt either!

Sarah's account has some of the best Fitspo quotes and pics on Instagram.  If you ever feel like skipping a workout, take a look at her account.

As my Filofax obsession grows, so does my love of Filofax/Paper crafting instagram accounts.  Handmade by Charlotte Victoria not only makes beautiful Filofax dividers, she photographs them in such beautiful ways.

Maebad

This account is like the perfect mix of my love for Filofaxing and beauty products.  This is another account that just makes me happy being a girl.

♥  Mimmiikonn

Mimmi is one of the sisters that helped create the Luxy Hair Extensions and Luxy Hair Youtube account.  I am obsessed with her Youtube videos and equally obsessed with her Instagram account.  She's stunning and posts beautiful and affordable outfit posts.

Did I mention your favorite Instagram account?  Any accounts that you love that I should be following?

Also, don't forget to follow me on Instagram at http://instagram.com/melziebabee.

Japanese Beauty Swap!

So a few weeks ago, the beautiful Kay from Cosmeddicted, and I decided to do a swap.  I don't even know how we came up on the topic of Real Techniques Brushes and I offered to send her some in return for some Asian beauty goodies.  Well I just have to say, her package was SO much better than mine!!

Ok seriously, how adorably is everything packaged??  I won't even lie, I kept some of the little baggies to use in future swaps lol.

The Beauty Goodies

She even labeled everything for me and I gave me a brief description of what everything was!! Love it!!

*Hadabisei Extra Rich Face Masks with Royal Jelly and Hylauronic Acid

*Konjac Sponge- Kay's description says to soak in warm water before using and use to cleanse and massage face.  I have SO wanted to try one of these!

*Eye Masks from MK (drugstore in Japan) with vitamin E, retinol and Coenzyme Q10- I have developed such an obsession with eye masks so I'm SUPER excited about these!

*Detergent for Puff and Sponge- I'm going to use this to cleanse my fake Beauty Blenders

*Beauty Labo Hair Serum for Damaged Hair- take note US companies..THIS is how packaging should be done!

Non-Beauty Goodies

Super yummy snacks, match mix and OMG adorable stationery and origami papers.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything and thank Kay so much!!

January Random Favorites

Here are some of my random favorites for the month of January.  Pretty boring again, I promise to spice things up for February!!

*Sinus Pillow- My dad got me this sinus pillow eye mask for Christmas.  I suffer from a lot of migraines so he thought maybe this heatable eye mask would help.  This month I haven't suffered from as many migraines, but tons of sinus headaches.  This eucalyptus scented eye mask works wonders.  I heat it up for a minute and lie down in a dark room with this on my eyes and my headache just seems to melt away.  This can frequently be found at TJ Maxx and Marshall's and if you're a headache sufferer I totally recommend this!

*Victoria's Secret Pink Lace Bralette- I got this bralette super cheap during the semi-annual sale.  I wanted one of these bralettes for those lazy Sunday's where I just bum around the house.  This doesn't entirely hold the girls in, but for just chilling around the house it's so much more comfortable than wearing a regular bra.  I definitely want to pick a few more of these up to lounge about in.

*Journaling- Not only has my Kendall introduced me to the world of Filofax, she also got me into daily journaling.  Every day I write the "pit", low point, and "peak", high point, of my day.  I also follow the journaling prompt from the 365/30 Lists: Philofaxers! group on Facebook.  It's really helped me look at more of the positives in my life, and not so much the small amount of negatives.

*The Bubble Gum Princess of Youtube- I have been loving watching and learning about cruelty free beauty brands.  The Bubble Gum Princess provides amazing reviews, hauls and tutorials using only cruelty free products.  She singlehandedly makes me want to buy the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette

*The Story of My Life by One Direction- Hi, my name is Melissa, I'm 29 years old and I'm a One Directioner.  Make fun of me all you want, they're adorable and the songs are catchy as hell!  This song has been on repeat all month for me!

*For All Things Lovely- I have become obsessed with this blog.  Her outfits are stunning, photography amazing and a drool worthy Instagram.  She makes me want to be just a tad more preppier.

January Makeup Favorites

January was another plain jane month for me.  When I look back, I don't think I purchased a single makeup item the entire month, which I'm sort of proud of!  I've been cutting back on my collection and it feels very therapeutic.  Here are the makeup items that I have been reaching for a lot.

*Korres Antiageing Foundation in Light Sand- I bought this off of Hautelook a while back and it has become my daily foundation.  It's leaves a beautiful natural finish, and I say provides light to medium coverage.  This foundation is a big step for me, as I usually like something with a bit more coverage.  I want to get this in a darker shade for when I self tan.

*Milani Easyliner for Eyes Glitter in Black Rocks- I bought this liner during the CVS Beauty Sale and I really like it.  It's an inky black liner with silver glitter in it.  It's not a chunky liner by any means and it provides a nice sparkle for a night out.

*Real Techniques Domed Shadow Brush- My Tammy sent me this brush and I LOVE it.  It's great at packing on a lid shade and it's seriously one of the softest brushes I've ever felt.  I definitely want to expand my Real Techniques Brush collection.

*ELF Eyelid Primer- This is one of those $1 ELF items and I haven't really used it as a primer.  I forgot who I saw vlog about it, but someone mentioned using this primer on your lashes as a mascara primer.  I've been doing that and I LOVE the results!  It makes even a less than stellar mascara look great and hold beautifully.

What beauty products were you reaching for in January?
