My Jane.com Review

A few months ago I became obsessed with the sale sites Groopdealz.com and Jane.com.  I don't know why I preferred Groopdealz.com, but I ordered quite a few things from them.  From the 4 items I ordered from Groopdealz, I received a shipping email on only one, never received another item all together, and had to email them several times regarding a third item.  So yes, I only received one item from them without incident.

After the 4th time, I unsubscribed from Groopdealz e-mails and began exclusively using Jane.com for my accessory or crafty fix.  I LOVE Jane.com!

This was my second order from Jane.com and I've had very positive experiences both times.  I received a confirmation email and a shipping confirmation email.  The prices are great and the variety of products they offer is great.

My first order was an order of washi tape (for my new Filofax addiction) and this order was a $9.99 statement necklace grab bag.  Shipping was only $4 and it came incredibly quick.  The necklaces are AMAZEBALLS.

How gorgeous are these 3 necklaces?  Even with shipping it was only $14 and those prices can't even be seen at Forever 21!  The quality of the three necklaces seems pretty decent and I love the great variety provided.  I can't wait to rock these with some maxi dresses or a plain white tee and shorts.

All in all, I am quite pleased with Jane.com and will be ordering from them again.

My Experience at Beauty Con NYC

On Saturday, Tammy and I attended Beauty Con in downtown NYC.  I bought these tickets months ago (missed out on the tix that included the goodie bag damn it!) and to be honest, I wasn't quite sure what to expect.  I knew it wasn't a shopping event like IMATS, and it was a Youtube heavy event, but other than that I didn't really know what we were walking in to.

After reading several blog posts about the Beauty Con event in LA, I began to panic a bit.  The event seemed to be very disorganized with people waiting hours in lines and the crowds being insane.  Neither Tammy or I don't do well with crowds, but we decided to brave it anyway.

The event started at 10 a.m., and we got there at about 12:30.  There was no line to get in, which was already a huge relief!  When we walked in it was packed, but not the wall to wall people like I had expected.   After walking around we saw a lot of booths with selfie props and what not and a few booths to do some shopping.

The vendors we saw were:

Tarte
Bare Minerals
Crown Brushes
Boohoo.com
Wildflower Phone Cases

I didn't end up buying anything, but Tammy bought a Tarte lip color which was pretty decently discounted.  After getting a lay of the land, we decided we wanted to attend some of the panel discussions.

First, was the Diva is a Female Version of a Hustler.  This was an amazing panel which included Makeupgeek's Marlena (one of my faves) and was all about building your brand, your business and turning your passion into a blog/youtube channel and then hopefully a career.

The panelists included:

Amber Venz of Venzedits.com
Coco & Breezy of Coco & Breezy Eyewear
Wendy Nguyen of Wendy'slookbook on Youtube
Soroya Darabi of Zady.com
Karen Blanchard of Wheredidugetthat.com
Marlena Stell aka Makeup Geek
Karissa Pukas of Saturdaynightsalrite on Youtube
Keiko Lynn of Keikolynn.com

The second panel discussion we attended was In Your Own Skin: Being Your Self(ie). This event was much more popular than the first, as a lot of the BIG beauty vloggers were the panelists.  This discussion was so cute and was really about self esteem and being comfortable in your own skin.  If you need an ego boost, I would watch this discussion online.

The panelists included:

Kandee Johnson
Dulce Candy
Gigi Gorgeous
Evelina Barry
Nadia Aboulhosn
Itsmyraerae of Youtube
Christina Topacio
Sunkissalba of Youtube
Ruthie Friedlander of Elle.com
Alexa Losey

The lines sort of prevented us (and by us I mean me) from cashing in on a lot of the freebies at the event, however we did get some goodies.  We got adorable temporary tattoos and FULL-SIZE BareSkin foundation from Bare Minerals which is their first liquid foundation and costs $29!

I had a great time and wasn't one of those girls who went crazy over seeing Youtubers……until I met SunkissAlba!!! Seriously, how gorgeous is she?

All in all, I really enjoyed this event.  The panel discussions really invigorated my love and drive for blogging and really made me want to be a part of the beauty blogger community.  If anyone ever knows of any beauty/fashion related or blogging related events in the New York tri-state area, please let me know!

The 411 on Bikini Waxing

Warmer temps have finally reached NYC and it would appear they are here to stay.  With summer and beach season only a few weeks away it's time to think about bathing suit shopping.  I don't know about you, but the first thing that comes to mind for me with bathing suit shopping is my bikini area.

I have previously tried laser hair removal on my bikini area, and it didn't fully take.  It worked a bit where my hair takes longer to grow in, but didn't remove my hair fully.  For this summer season I decided to invest in a waxing package at my local European Waxing Center.

Here are some tips that I've picked up along the way from doing some research, from personal experience and from my waxing tech.

Before Waxing

Research!  This is a very private area and you want to find a clean and knowledgable salon.
The night or morning before I would recommend exfoliating your bikini area with a light exfoliant.
Don't apply any lotions or oils to that area the day of your wax.
I go to my waxing appointment after work, so I always make sure to powder that morning.
30 minutes prior to your appointment pop two Advils.  It'll take the edge off.
Plan to wear a looser pair of undies and bottoms.  You want that area to be able to breathe post waxing.

During Your Wax

✦ Don't worry.  The person doing your wax has more than likely seen it ALL!
✦ Make sure the waxing tech is wearing gloves.
✦ Make sure the spatula (aka popsicle stick) is a new one.  If you don't see the tech open a new tool or take a new one out, ask them to do so.
✦ Listen to the tech.  She may tell you to help pull skin taut or to get in a position that seems crazy.  If you did your research and picked  good place, they know what they are doing!
✦ Communicate what you want.  If you want it all gone, tell them that.
✦ Take a deep breath prior to the strip being pulled off.  It helps- a tiny bit.

After Your Wax

✦ Try not to take a shower for a while.  If you have to, make it a cool one.  I made the mistake of taking a hot shower after a wax in an attempt to remove wax residue, OMG PAIN!
✦ Refrain from working out for the next few hours- it won't be comfortable.
✦ Invest in and regularly apply an ingrown hair serum or cream.
✦ Refrain from using scented lotions and creams down there.
✦ Lightly exfoliate your bikini area 2-3 times a week to help prevent ingrowns.
✦ If you plan on making waxing a regular thing, don't shave in between appointments!  It will make the hair more brittle and difficult to wax.
✦ Again, if you plan on making waxing a regular thing stick with your appointments every 2-3 weeks in the beginning.  Hair will eventually begin to thin and grow in less.

Any tips or tricks you can share for bikini waxes?  It's not a pleasant experience, but in my eyes it beats shaving everyday!

Thursday Quick Tip: Switch Around Your Collection!

Find yourself in a makeup rut?  Reaching for the same products every day?  This happens to me quite often!

A quick and easy way to prevent this from happening is to switch around your makeup.  A few times a month and I rearrange a makeup drawer or two and bring items from the back to the front so I can reach for them more.  For some of you with a much larger makeup collection than I, this will be a great way to rediscover some old gems!

Mini Accessories Haul!

I love accessories.  I have a large costume jewelry collection that makes me smile everyday.  However, when it comes to the summer at times I just don't want statement necklaces sticking to my neck or bracelets waving around my wrist.  So I rely on earrings and hair accessories big time.

This past weekend I went to Cape Cod to spend some time with my grandmother.  Of course, I also had to do some shopping.  I had accessories on my mind!

Claire's

I have to admit, it's been a while since I've shopped at a Claire's!  However, when I knew I wanted some cute headbands, I knew I would have to visit this teeny bopper store.

*Blue Butterfly Headband- $2.25
*Wire Bun Wrap- $2.75
*Beaded Headband- $7.50
*Flower Headwrap- $7.50

The regular price headbands were buy one, get one 50% off.  I can't wait to play around with these and hope they aren't too tight since my head tends to be very sensitive with headbands.

 Bella's of Cape Cod

Bella's is my favorite boutique on the Cape.  They're jewelry is insanely adorable and everything is under $25.

*Pearl Earrings- $12
*Blue Earrings- $12
*Gold Ball Earrings- $6

It's funny how small items can put such a smile on my face!

What accessories will you be rocking this summer?

Fortune Cookie Soap Candy Land Summer Soap Box

A few months back I posted about my first Fortune Cookie Soap Box.  This box is $29.95 and sent out quarterly.  The box contains around 8 Fortune Cookie Soap products from their newest collection.  The products range from body butters, bath melts, soaps, skin care, etc.

While this is only my second box, it is by far my favorite!  The collection is right up my alley as are the candy inspired scents.

From L to R, top to bottom:

*The Sweet Spot Sparkle Me- This is a glitter body spray with the scent being described as, "fresh pocked melon, strawberries, and peaches twisted with sour mandarin oranges and pineapple, all sprinkled with a touch of sugar."

*Blow Me Lip Scrub- A bubblegum scented lip scrub? How could this not be love?!

*Lemon Drop It Like It's Hot Microdermabrasion Facial Scrub- This facial scrub is formulated to brighten and smooth skin and is scented with lemon peel essence and orange zest.  I'm always looking for a good facial scrub, especially a natural one!

*Captain's Berried Booty Whipped Cream- I already love FCS body butter, and this one smells amazing.  The scent is described as "a crunchy, fruity, berry scent with powdery vanilla, raspberry and tonka bean notes."

*Lick Your Lips Fortune Cookie Soap- First of all, how adorable is this soap? Secondly, it's scented like peppermint ice cream with flecks of dark chocolate! Purrrrr-fection!

*Rock Your Socks Off Solid Sugar Scrub- I love, love, love natural sugar scrubs.  This one smells amazing, like grape candy.  I can't wait to try it out!

*Sweet Dreamsicle Wax Tart- I love using my tart warmer, and this orange and vanilla cream scented one is sure to make my living room smell amazing.

*Lollipop Your Cherry OCD Hand Sanitizer- I love FCS's version of hand sanitizer.  It's a great size, the packaging is adorable and it smells yummy.  This one is scented like, "cherries, vanilla and hints of orange and pineapple."

Did I mention that every box comes with a $10 gift card?  How could one not love this?!

All in all, I am SUPER happy with my FCS Soap Box and will continue to subscribe.  The next box gets sent out on August 11 and you can sign up for it here.

Quick Tip: Boot Storage Tip #2

A while back I posted this cheap tip to help keep the shapes of your boots.  Well, here's another one!

Throw a wine bottle inside your boot!  A wine bottle is the perfect shape and thickness to help maintain the shape of your boot when storing it for the off-season!  If you're anything like me, you'll have quite a few bottles lying around to help you in this project. :)

What's In My Bag Spring 2014 Edition

I love watching or reading "What's in my purse" posts.  It's been quite a while since I've done one of these posts of my own, so I decided to show you the contents of my newest bag.

This Michael Kors bag is my newest purse and my first MK bag.  My dad got me this for Christmas.  While I'm not a fan of the tacky gold MK emblem on the front, I love the bag itself!

The color is more accurately depicted in this picture with the flash.  It's a light brown/cognac color.

The inside is a beigey/taupe material with MK's all over it.  I don't love the lining, but I love the pockets on the inside. There are two cell phone size pockets on the left, two on the right, and one large zipper pocket also on the right.

 Here are the contents:
Top to bottom, L to R:
Vera Bradley Card Case for my gift cards and loyalty cards
Coach Wallet
Thirty One Zipper Pouch
Conair Purse Brush
Mally Unpowder Diamond Powder
Trident Gum
Malin & Goetz Mojito Lip Balm
Bonne Bell Lip Lites in Strawberry Parfait
Eco Tools Brush
Silk Naturals Kisser Slicker Lip Gloss in Rare Berry
2 Appointment Cards
Pen
Hair Tie
Macy's Coupon

Believe it or not, with all of this stuff this bag is still pretty light.  I appreciate bags that are light when empty, because us gals can add TONS of weight to them!

Gift Cards/ Loyalty Cards from Vera Bradley Pouch
*2 Lord & Taylor gift cards
*Charming Charlie gift card
*Starbucks gift card
*Pier 1 gift card
*Macy's gift card
*Home Goods gift card
*2 Borgota (casino) cards
*Dress Barn Perks Card
*The Melting Pot rewards card
*GNC Gold Card
*Stop & Shop card
*Sephora VIB card
*Mrs. Green's Smoothie Punch Card
*C. Wonder Punch Card

Am I the only one who hoards gift cards? I don't like spending them all at once!

Contents of Thirty One Makeup Pouch
*BBW Hawaii Coconut Body Lotion
*Silk Naturals HD Concealer sample
*Microfiber Cloth to clean my glasses
*BBW Pocket Bac in Vanilla
*Pill case
*Mally Beauty gloss in Delish
*Jordana lip gloss in Caramelo
*Pepto to Go
*Dayquil
*Migraine Meds
*Tums
*Badger Headache Soother Balm
*Nature Republic Oil Control Film
*Mets schedule
*Earbuds

It's truly crazy how much stuff fits in this little pouch! As you can tell by the meds I suffer from stomach issues and migraines A LOT!  This headache balm is truly amazing and I keep one in my purse and one in my bedside table.

Does anyone else hoard stuff in their bag?  What's the strangest thing you have in your purse?
I guess the strangest thing I have in mine is a Mets schedule.  What can I say? I'm a gal who loves her sports!

Thanks for stopping by!

Review: Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation

A few months back I bought the Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Complexion Kit which contained this serum foundation.  I've been not only looking for a foundation for my soon to be self-tanned skin, but I wanted a foundation that had some skin benefits to it as well.

When I read up on the Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation I decided this would be a good one to try!  It's a bit on the pricey side, but I figure if it has skin care benefits to it as well as providing coverage, it's like a two in one!

Foundation-less Skin
As you can see I have a lot of redness and freckles in my skin.  Also, some massive pores.  I knew this foundation was light to medium coverage, but I was hoping to just even things out a bit and not necessarily cover and mattify everything.

As you can see this foundation comes out white.  It is one of those foundations that adjusts with the color of your skin.

Still white when only dabbed onto your face.  It needs to blended or rubbed in, in order for it to match.

 Skin With Foundation

As you can see this REALLY evens things out and even covers a lot of the redness in my cheeks and around my nose.  I've tried this on my pale skin and my self-tanned skin and it has adjusted to both shades nicely.

Finish: This foundation gives off a slightly dewy finish.  It gives a very luminous look, not recommended where a lot of flash photography will be going on.

Coverage: Light to medium

Lasting Power: This lasts me most of my work day.  I am not oily or sweaty (yet), so this lasts pretty nicely on my skin.  It also fades generally all over my face and not splotchy or in random places like some other foundations I've used.

Good for: Dry skinned gals, those who want some moisture in their foundation, those looking for a dewy or luminous finish and those who alternate between natural color and light self tanning

Would I repurchase?: Yes!  For every day wear this stuff is great and makes my skin really glow

April Rando Favorites

Click here to see my April beauty favorites.

On to the April non-beauty favorites….

*Zara Basics High Waisted Leggings- This is my first ever Zara purchase, and definitely not my last.  These leggings were a whopping $36, but worth every penny!  These remind me of the famous J. Crew Pixi Pants.  They aren't even close to see through and they suck everything in and push everything up.  These leggings are like squats in pant form.

*Mason Jar Salads- I am a prepare everything at night kinda gal.  Since purchasing a thing of mason jars, I can make my salads up to 3 days in advance and they stay super fresh and not soggy.  Layer your heaviest ingredients on the bottom (some people include dressing on the bottom, I still keep it separate) and layer lighter as you go up.

*BBW Mahogany Teakwood Candle- As someone who has been single for a while, this candle is like my boyfriend (sad times, right? lol).  It smells like a heavenly cologne!  If you aren't into girly or food scents, or want a scent that your man could like too, this one is a winner!

*Nature Republic Fresh Deodorant Tissue- I purchased these last summer with my girls in Jersey, but haven't used them until this month.  I throw these in my workout bag and use them to wipe down if I'm not going directly home to shower.  They work amazingly at absorbing odors and leaving a powdery fresh scent.  I'll have to make a trip back out to Jersey soon to pick some more of these up!

*(not pictured) McDonald's Iced Coffees- I have been spending money on Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts iced coffees for years, and yet I tried McDonald's French Vanilla Iced Coffees for the first time this month and they are a million times better, oh and only a $1!!!

What were your random or fashion favorites for the month of April?

April Beauty Faves

April was seriously the oddest weather month.  The second week of April brought temps in the high 70s and tank tops and capris.  Then the last day of April brought 4 inches of rain and temps in the 40's.

While April was all over the map weather wise, it was a pretty good month for me.  I got to see my best friend from college at her baby shower, went to Philly for the first time, got my ass back into gear with working out and just had a decent and happy month.

Enough with all of the rainbows and butterflies, here are my April beauty favorites.

*Chella Dazzling Dark Brown Eyebrow Color Pencil- I received this in one of my Ipsy bags a few months back.  I didn't need a brow liner at the time, but recently my It Cosmetics brow liner finished up, so I reached for this.  At first I thought it was on the dark side, but with a light hand I actually really like it.  The point is very fine and it looks super natural.

*WnW Trio in Knock on Wood- I bought this during the CVS Semi-Annual Beauty Sale and even though it's quite fall and wintery, I didn't reach for it until this month.  This trio is beautiful and looks amazing on light eyes.  I find it to look really sultry for an evening out and is a nice alternative to a grey or black smoky eye.

*WnW Coverall Cream Foundation in Fair Light- I have been self tanning on and off this month and have needed to do some chemistry work mixing foundations to find the best color.  This foundation is a tad dark and tad too heavy on it's own.  However, mixed with a lighter foundation it's amazing!  It blends beautifully and really blurs imperfections.

*Josie Maran Cheek Gelee in Poppin Poppy- I have tried several cream blushes, but never a gelee.  Well, this stuff is AH-MAZING!  It blends beautifully, a little goes a looong way, and it feels so amazing on the skin.  This will be my go to blush for the summer!  I plan on reviewing this and my new Josie Maran foundation soon!

*Silk Naturals HD Peach Concealer- I bought this sample as part of my Silk Naturals haul and it is love! This is supposed to be a dupe to Eve Pearl's Salmon concealer, but I've never tried that so I can't speak to that.  However, it does help cancel out a lot of my dark circles and with a light concealer on top it looks amazing.
