June Beauty Favorites

I incorporated some amazing new products into my makeup routine this month.  I'm putting myself on a makeup no-buy for the month of July so I better live it up with these products!

♥ Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Yup still loving this from May

♥ WnW Blue Had Me At Hello
When I bought this palette at last year's CVS Beauty Sale I didn't know what I would be using it for, but knew I couldn't pass up the amazing deal.  Well, I've been reaching for this palette almost daily to use the blues and teal as amazing colored liners.  They make my blueish green eyes pop and add so much fun to an everyday look.

♥ Color Your Smile Glosses in Rose Hill, Candy Apple and Nude
I had seen so much hype about these glosses all over Youtube and when I found an awesome coupon code, I had to try a few out.  Well, the hype is correct.  These glosses are amazingly pigmented and creamy.  I'm not a big lipstick girl and these give me the pigmentation of a lipstick without the feeling.  A full review of these three glosses are coming soon!

♥ Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil
I remember receiving this in a Glam Bag many moons ago and I never used it.  Now, I use it daily and it's awesome.  It's very soft and creamy and applies beautifully.  It has also a good rounded tip to apply natural looking brow strokes.

♥ Sonia Kashuk Brush
This came in a brush set that I bought a million years ago and the name of the brush already rubbed away.  I use this brush to blend in my brow pencil and it gives the most natural beautiful look.

Fitness Friday: Surviving the Summer

Working out is normally a sweaty adventure for me.  However, in the summer sweaty is an understatement!  There are some important things to remember when working out during these hot summer months.

Google Images

Here are some things to remember to prevent injury or illness while Zumba-ing through the summer:

*Workout early in the morning or later at night.  These times tend to be cooler so it's healthier for you.

*Dress appropriately.  You are working out, who cares if you things are moving around or wobbling!  Now is the time to wear short shorts and tank tops.  It's all about staying cool.

*Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  The more we sweat, the more electrolytes we lose.  Summer may be the time to invest in some electrolyte infused water to rehydrate after your workout.

*Avoid makeup and heavy sunscreens when exercising.  Due to excessive sweat, skin can tend to get clogged up quicker leading to more breakouts.

*Shower or change immediately.  This is important after working out any time of the year, but even more so during the summer.  Sweaty clothing can trap acne and infection causing bacteria in your skin.

*Try a water sport or water exercising routine.  If you have a pool or access to a community pool use it for more than just tanning!  Water activities can burn massive amounts of calories and can help keep you cool at the same time.

*Now is the time to try out a new exercise DVD or new workout video on Youtube in your nice air conditioned living room.

*Check out free trials at local gyms to take advantage of their amazing exercise machines and amazing air conditioning.

What is your favorite tip or trick for working out during the summer??

Quick Tip : What do I apply when?

If you're anything like me, you have a cabinet or drawer full of skin care products.  Skin care products aren't cheap, so why wouldn't you want to get the biggest bang for your buck?  Did you know the order that you apply your products can add or take away from their effectiveness?  Based on skin a lot of information compiled by a lot of skin care experts here is the order we should all be following:

Google Images

1.  Serums first.  These are the lightest and sink into the skin the deepest.  Hylauronic acid and Retinol's would also be the first step.

2.  Seal in that serum with a moisturizer.

3.  If you are using a face oil it can go after a moisturizer, or in place of.

4.  Eye cream next.

5.  If it's day time, SPF is last.

Have you been applying your skincare products properly?

Style Sunday: Le Tote Review

If any of you watch any popular Youtuber or read any popular fashion blog, I am sure you have heard of Le Tote.  Le Tote is basically the Netflix of clothing.

For $49 a month you get 3 pieces of clothing and 2 accessories sent out to you at a time.  You can wear them and return them unwashed for your next "tote" of clothes and accessories to be sent out, or if you like any of the items you can purchase them for a discount price.  Franky, I think this idea is BRILLIANT.

$50 is a bit high for me to spend on a monthly subscription service, but this price includes unlimited "totes".  Meaning once I return one "tote" (complete box of clothing and jewelry) they send out my next box.  I can keep changing up my looks!  If there's an item I really, really love then I can buy it and if not, I just send it back.

The brands that are included in this box are Nordstrom Rack type of brands- ranging from BCBGeneration to French Connection and House of Harlow.

Last week I received my first "tote" and here's what I got:

Dress by Kensie- Size Medium

Retail price: $68
Purchase Price: $54

Didn't love this dress.  Felt it looked a bit dowdy on me.  Didn't even end up wearing it.

Olive & Oak Zipper Back Blouse

Retail price: $78
Purchase Price: $39

I ended up wearing this blouse to work, but didn't love it.  Won't be purchasing this.

 Collective Concepts High Low Blouse
Retail price: $59
Purchase Price: $38

This was the only item of this tote that I considered purchasing.  I really liked the mix of fabrics in this blouse and the comfy fit.  While I liked it, I just didn't see myself wearing it often, so back it goes.

Sparkly Earrings
Retail price: $14
Purchase price: $10

I normally love sparkly disc earrings, but these were just a bit too big for my liking.

 Hinge Cuff Bracelet
Retail price: $28
Purchase price: $24

I did like this cuff, but it looked too big on me.  I'm just too short to pull of this kind of jewelry!

So as you can see, I wore most of the items in this Le Tote, but didn't end up purchasing any of them.  So back they go.  When they receive this shipment, my next Le Tote will be sent out!  Granted this is just my first, but so far I think it's a great idea and will be looking forward to getting more and more Le Totes.

Click here to sign up using my referral link.  Also, look for coupon codes! They frequently offer $10 or $20 off for your first month!

Will you be signing up for Le Tote? Do you think the idea is brilliant or a little gross?

Fitness Friday: Prepping For Your FIrst "Fun" 5K

Tomorrow I am running my first 5k.  It's not a normal 5k, it's a themed one.  Themed 5k's seem to be all the rage and I'm really excited that my first 5k is a bit on the crazy side.  Here's what I'll be doing tomorrow:

Other than turning yourself into a runner and engaging in upper and lower body physical training (the obvious!)  here are some tips to help you run your best race and have the best time:

*Don't try a new breakfast the day of the race.  Stick with what you usually have, but try to add a bit more protein to it.  I've read a lot of sites that recommend a greek yogurt and fruit smoothie.

*Don't eat within 2 hours of the race.  Digesting and running = cramping.

*Don't wear anything new.  This is not the time to be breaking in new shoes, trying a new sports bra or new socks.  Go with what you have been training in.

*Don't workout the night before.  If you must, go for a bit of a walk, but take it easy the night before and even the few days before a race.  Any soreness will really be amplified the day of the race.

*I've seen the myth that marathon runners eat a giant bowl of pasta the night before the race.  Well, that's not necessarily recommended but eating a decent amount of carbs the night before is important.  Just have it in regular portion sizes, and not giant ones.

*Don't drink too much before the race.  Nothing sucks as bad as having to pee in the middle of a race.

*Bring garbage bags.  In the case of my race I will need garbage bags to put my muddied up clothing in and to possibly sit on in the car on the way home.

*For a themed race, dress up and get into it!  My friends and I should've gotten shirts made, but instead we are wearing the same colors and the same bandanas.  Make it fun!

*Set some goals for yourself.  This being my first 5k and having a lot of obstacles in it, my only goal is to finish with participating in every obstacle.  Let's see how it goes!!

Any pre-race tips for a 5k?  Based on how I feel tomorrow night and Sunday, I plan on participating in more!

My Summer Reading List

Summer break is 2 weeks away and I can't wait!  One of my favorite things to do over the summer is read!  I love to create a summer reading list and see how many of the books I can actually get through.  Here are some reads that are on my list this year!

The EveryGirl's Guide to Life

I love any kind of girly self help type of books that focus on inner and outer beauty.  I'm a fan of Maria Menunos so I would give this book a try.  It doesn't hurt that it's only $1.99 for my Kindle!

Living the Savvy Life

Obviously, I'm a girl who lives on a budget but still enjoys being fabulous. This book is supposedly full of great tips and tricks to be fabulous, yet budget friendly.

The Great Gatsby

I don't know why, but lately I've had a craving to read some of the classics.  This was one of my favorites in high school, but I don't remember a whole lot of it.  I want to read this and then watch the Leo Dicaprio movie right afterwards.

The One & Only

Who doesn't love a little chick lit?  Emily Giffin has written some of my favorite sappy, sacharine coated rom-coms so I can't wait to read this one.  This is going to be a great pool/beach read.

Cupcakes and Cashmere

With so many lovely bloggers getting book deals, I had to include one blog turned book!  Cupcakes and Cashmere is the type of blog that just makes me happy to be a girl.  I've seen so many people feature this book as a favorite because of it's recipes, DIY projects and style advice.

The Maze Runner

I'm almost 30 years old and I can admit that I love young adult book series.  Everytime I mention that I loved Divergent or The Hunger Games, people always recommend this book to me.  It's another dystopian society kind of book, and I am HOOKED on those lately!

Here are just a few of the books on my must-read list.  Do you have any I should add?

My Favorite Fitness Apps

People say that a sedentary lifestyle can lead to a lot of weight gain and that's totally true.  Considering how long we spend on our cell phones I feel a lot of us do fall victim to a sedentary lifestyle.  However, a Smartphone can provide a lot of inspiration and assistance in losing weight or toning up.

Here's a peek at my favorite fitness/weight loss apps:

My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal is one of the most popular weight loss apps and for good reason.  This is great for those who are counting calories or for those who just want to log their food and exercise.  Their food database is really expansive and it even breaks down your macronutrients.
While I don't recommend counting calories as a long term solution, it is great to see how many calories you may consume in a day and where you can make some healthy changes.

 Seconds

Have you ever seen those Instagram workouts?  Where it says 30 seconds of jumping jacks and then 30 seconds of lunges?  Well, who wants to be fumbling with their phone and a timer!  This app is awesome.  You can create a workout and a time so you can create your own routines.  The free app you aren't able to save your routines, but it doesn't take long to make them.

 Blogilates

Blogilates is and has been one of my favorite online fitness personalities. Her app does not disappoint.  What I like best about the app is the recipe swap board.  I have gotten so many great recipe ideas from the people who post here.

 Nike Training Club

If you are looking for a trainer, but can't afford one then try this Nike Training app.  Enter your basic information and your goal (weight loss, toning, etc.) and the app provides a ton of workout options ranging from 15 minutes to an hour.  It has videos to show you how to do the moves as well.  This is quickly becoming my new favorite fitness app.

I am always, ALWAYS looking for new fitness/recipe/healthy living apps and would love to have any recommendations!

Thanks for reading loves!

Quick Tip: No More Greasies!

I'm normally a dry skinned gal.  However, once the summer months roll around and the New York City humidity kicks in, I turn into a grease ball!  I usually carry around a pack of oil blotting sheets in my bag.  That is until my friend Serafina told me a brilliant tip.

Did you know Starbucks napkins make the BEST oil blotting sheets?  Yup!  She brought me a whole stack of Starbucks napkins and they work as well as those oil blotting sheets.  Save yourself the few bucks and pick up some extra napkins next time you're picking up your latte!

Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer is a time where makeup can be fun and wild or completely care free.  Summer is a time I like to go light on the face makeup and a bit fun with my eye or lip makeup.

Here are my summer 2014 beauty essentials!

&#10084 Face &#10084

*Cream Eyeshadow*
Cream shadow is a great product to use day to day.  I love this cream shadow stick by Mally in the color Twilight.  Cream shadows are great to just swipe on, smudge out a bit and be on your way!

*Waterproof Eyeliner*
No one likes the raccoon look and it's very easy to have a liner melt down with all of the moisture in the air and sweaty lids.  A waterproof liner is a great investment to make for any time of the year, but especially during the summer.

*Bright lip color*
I love, love, love bright glosses for the summer.  This bright lip color from Elf called Evil Queen is a bright and fun wash of color on the lips.

*BB/CC Cream or Tinted Moisturizer*
Hot and humid weather + full face of makeup can equal a disaster!  This is the time to let your skin breathe and apply only a light layer of face makeup.  Plus, your face is probably a bit tan which helps blur out minor imperfections.  I have been reaching for my Physician's Formula CC+ Cream almost daily.

*Primer*
A primer is a tres important makeup product anytime of year, but I find it most important during the summer months.  The primer creates a barrier between your skin and BB cream and helps prevent it from slipping off of your face.

*Oil Control Product*
Whether it be an oil control spray, blotters or a mattifying powder, you are going to want to keep an oil control product with you at all times!  This Oil Control Mist from Nature Republic is the best at keeping the greasies at bay.

&#10084  Body &#10084

*Light Summer Scent*
Summer is not the time for a musky or heavy scent.  Switch to a body spray in a fun and summery scent.  I find that VS Pink makes the best summer sprays, like this one in Spring Break.

*Self Tanner*
Who doesn't a bomb dot com self tanner??  No one wants to be wrinkly because of their tan, so slap on the SPF and a self tanner for a safe bronze glow.  This self tanner from Million Dollar Tan is amazing.  It's frequently sold on Hautelook.

*Sunscreen*
Sun protection is the number one tool in fighting off anti-aging.  Look for a more natural SPF to keep your skin healthy and happy.  I love this Honest Sunscreen from the Honest Company (which will soon be sold at Target!)

&#10084  Hair &#10084

*Frizz Control Product*
Just like your makeup routine should be made a bit more low maintenance, so should your hair routine. I prefer to leave my hair alone during the summer months and either let it air dry or try a variety of heat free curling techniques.  Due to the lack of heat on my hair, my hair tends to frizz up big time.  It's important to have a frizz fighter in your arsenal.  My favorite is this Nourishing Serum from The ALl Natural Face.

*Beach Spray*
Even straight hair girls can benefit from a sea salt spray.  A great beach spray gives hair amazing texture and body without heat.  This Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray is awesome, but only if you plan on washing your hair everyday.

These are my summer beauty essentials.

Did I miss anything important?

Style Sunday: Summer OOTW

This last week was the first week we have had summer like temperatures all week.  Working at an older school with no air conditioning tends to create some fashion dilemmas.  I have to wear as little clothing as possible, while revealing as little as possible.  I think I did a decent job this week.

 Plain Jane
Could I have done a more unflattering pose??

Fitness Friday: My Latest Urthbox

Last week I received my last Urthbox.  I purchased only a 3 month subscription, and while I actually enjoyed this snack box, I can't justify spending the $30 a month on a box where I don't like 2-3 products.  They now have a $19 option where you can receive 7-10 products, which can possibly me an option for me in the future.

Of course my last box, is my favorite so far!  Here's what I got:

Salty Goodies

*Cobra Corn (popcorn) with Bombay Seasoning
*Ips White Cheddar Egg White Chips (supposedly a healthy dupe for the popular white cheddar popcorn- haven't tried these yet!)
*Super Treats Chili Lime Kale + Chia Chips- I have yet to try pre-made kale chips and can't wait to try these!
*The Good Bean Sea Salt Chickeas- THESE.ARE.LOVE.

Sweet Treats

*Chime's Orange Ginger Chews
*New York Date bar in Apple
*Frontier Brand Protein Bar
*Nana's Pound Cake Cookie- My favorite so far..of course the unhealthiest of the healthy bunch!

Drinks

*Stur Proudly Tea and Lemon Water Flavor- I'm not a tea or lemon gal, so I gave this to a co-worker.
*Chia Drunk in Strawberry Citrus- I've wanted to try a chia drunk for a while and this one is only 50 cals!

So all in all, I was very pleased with my Urthbox, I just can't justify spending the money at the moment.  At this point in time I would rather buy a random product or two at Whole Foods to test out.

Any snack box subscription recommendations?

May Random Favorites

Click here to see my May beauty favorites!!

Here are my very random, yet very awesome non-beauty May favorites!

*Target Xhilaration Shae Ballet Flat in Crochet
I bought these on Target.com when they were having a decent shoe sale.  It takes a wear or two to get them to fit perfectly, but then they are decently comfortable and adorable!  They look great with jeans, shorts or even a dress.

*Pecksniff's Aromatherapy Remedy Insomniacs Pillow Spray
I bought this at my local Marshall's because I liked the smell.  I don't know if the smell helps put me to sleep, but it does smell nice and is relaxing when sprayed on my pillows and sheets.

*Starbucks Via Iced Coffee
I bought these because they were only $4 at my local TJ Maxx and I really like them! I add them to a tumbler of iced cold water, throw in some ice cubes and a splash of creamer and it's a delicious iced coffee! Perfect for the summer months.

*Vitatops Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
I have been a fan of Vitatops for quite a while.  However, the flavors by me were always limited.  They just recently started selling this Reese's inspired one at my local supermarket and IT. IS. AMAZING. It's a great low cal snack for anyone who has a sweet tooth like me.

May Beauty Favorites

So glad that May is over as that means that school is almost over!  While I really loved (most of) my class this year, I'll be glad when I don't have to hear "Ms. L" over 1,000 times a day and be surrounded by 8 year old girl drama (oh it exists!).

May was a pretty decent beauty month for me.  With the exception of some chin area break outs, my skin has not been sucking and my hair has been not rebelling against me everyday!

Here are the beauty products that helped me look my best in May!

Makeup Favorites

*Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
Now I have never tried the Beauty Blender so I can't compare the two, but I don't think I will ever need to spend the insane amount on the BB because this works so well!  If you haven't yet tried this out to apply your thicker foundations, I recommend you do so ASAP.

*Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise
I REALLY love this cream blush and the amazing pop of color it leaves on my cheeks.  I was a bit concerned the coconut oil would be too heavy for my cheeks, but it worked beautifully.

*Bonne Bell Liplites in Strawberry Parfait
Oh this lip color is love!  I have been searching for this color for literally years because I heard it's a dupe for Nars Turkish Delight.  I have never tried that, but based on the looks I can't say this is an exact dupe.  However, this color is gorgeous.  It's a bit of a goopy texture, but it doesn't bother me.  I've read it's only sold at Wal-Mart's but I found mine at my local Harmon's.

*Silk Naturals Kisser Slicker in Rare Berry
This is a tinted balm from Silk Naturals and I really love it.  This is a very pigmented balm and gives a good "popsicle stained" lip look.  I am really interested in trying more lip colors from Silk Naturals as I'm super impressed!

Swatches

*JM Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise
*BB Liplites in Strawberry Parfait
*Silk Naturals Kisser Slicker in Bare Berry

Skin Care/ Hair Care Favorites

*Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Threat Invigorating Shampoo
This shampoo is really great for getting all of the gunk out of your hair.  It's a bit too stripping to use more than once a week, but a weekend deep cleaning it works amazingly well.

*Alba Botanica Hawaiian Moisture Cream- I began using this cream as a daytime moisturizer a while back.  I don't like that it's in a pot form (seems so unsanitary!) but I have been loving this cream!  It's almost like it really hydrates my areas that are still dry, but doesn't over hydrate the oily areas.  Only downside is it doesn't have an SPF, but my makeup does so for a normal workday this is effective enough.
