Review: Laura Geller Bring on the Bronze Set

My friend Katie gave me a Sephora gift card for my birthday and I purchased the Laura Geller "Bring on the Bronze Set" for $31.50. Geller is frequently featured on QVC and I grew quite interested in trying out some of her baked products and I thought this set was a great way to try out some of her products.

The set contains:

Spackle Tinted Primer in Bronze
Baked Shadow Duo in Candied Bronze
Lipshine SPF 15 in Sundrenched
Split Baked Body Frosting All Over Body Glow in Honey Glow and Sugar Glow

Spackle Tinted Primer in Bronze
I really wasn't wowed by this product. This product had a much more slippery texture then my Avon primer. I feel that this product wouldn't be super beneficial to people with oily skin, because I have super dry skin and it felt super slippery on me. I wore this one day around the house, but didn't take a pic because it looked weird with a bronzed primer and my super pale skin. Can you say foundation line??!!

On the pic, you can't see that much bronze, but when worn all over the face, it does give a nice subtle glow. I think I will revisit this review when my skin gets a bit darker, because I am Casper right now.

Hand with out primer:

Hand with primer:

You can see a slight bronze tint

Baked Shadow Duo in Candied Bronze
This is the winner of the set in my eyes. The texture is so silky and pigmented and just gorgeous. The more coppery shade can be difficult to wear, because of it's red undertones, but used sparingly it creates quite a pretty glow. The lighter color is like a "halo" of color and just so shimmery and pretty. FYI: If you don't like super shimmer, you won't like these shadows.

Lipshine SPF 15 in Sundrenched
I really like the texture and glossiness of this lipstick. It's very light and moisturizing and the SPF 15 is an extra bonus. It goes on like a lipstick, but has a slight gloss shine to it. However, I have a ruddy undertone to my lips, so it didn't look so hot on my lips. I am going to try concealing my lips first and then wearing it over that, because I really like the color.

Baked Body Frosting
This was the part of the set I was really excited about it and honestly, it was a bit disappointing. This product can be used dry for a subtle shimmer/color or wet for a deeper color. Again, this may be a product that I will have to test when I have some color to my skin, because this is obviously not made for super pale chicas like myself. It's a lot more shimmer than I thought. The sugar glow, which is the lighter of the two, gives a golden shimmer and golden undertone to the skin. Used dry, it's super subtle, but used wet and it could be used to highlight the collar bones, cleavage area or any part of the body you want to highlight. It is very pretty, but I think the shimmer is even more apparent on my pale skin.
The honey glow is the bronzing color. This color is really gorgeous, but I don't think it should be used to "tan" pale skin, but used on skin that all ready has a bit of color to it, so it can deepen the color and add shimmer.

how did you and the bf end up so far apart? as in living?

It sucks lol. Jason is from the Pittsburgh area and I'm from the NYC area, luckily Jason's job interest is in finance and he wanted to work in NYC. In college when he started his job hunt he concentrated on NYC and got a job with a company located in CT. Unfortunately, they have offices everywhere and he was relocated to Atlanta. I was supposed to move down there as you know, but the job market is worse there than here. It sucks, but we make do. Our goal is to end up in Boston come September. We're a traveling couple I guess lol.

Favorite shampoo & conditioner?

I wish I had one. I have yet to find a shampoo and conditioner that I would actually repurchase. I think that's because I've been doing a bulk of my shopping at the drugstore. Right now I'm using Avon Advanced Techniques Body Building Shampoo and Conditioner. This stuff leaves my hair super shiny, but I don't always love the feel of my hair and it definitely doesn't help with body.

Ask me anything

Do you dye your hair? If so, what brand do you use?

I do, in the sun my hair has a natural red tint to it, so I use Clairol Natural Instincts in Cinaberry, which is a medium red-brown. I don't like to use permanent dye on my hair, because it is a bit on the dry side. I need hair color now that I'm sprouting grays! I do think I'm going to look for a new semi-perm dye at Sally's though.

When am I finally going to meet you? =P

I need to meet you soon! I think we should arrange a spring fling for NYC! I don't want to meet you as my pale, pasty, winter self lol.
I can't wait to meet you though!

Favorite author?

I wish I could say someone deep, but my favorite is Susan Elizabeth Phillips. She writes HOT chick lit and a large majority of her stories have a sports element to them which I love.

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas- on the Cheap

Ahh...the holiday of love, red, pink and hearts. I've been in a relationship for 5 years and I'm still not a huge fan of the holiday. Maybe it's all the pink? I don't know. One reason I love the holiday though is Reese's hearts! I swear to you that Reese's in shapes taste better than regular standard Reese's. Test it!

Here are some fab and budget friendly gift ideas for your significant other. The actual V-day weekend I'm spending with my gf's because Jason is in ATL. My romantic Valentine's Day won't be until the end of February and will be spent at Serendipity in NYC.

For the love in your life:

52 Reasons Why

I really wanted to do a tut on this myself since this is what I'm making Jason for V-day, but I haven't made it yet since I don't have to and I've been lazy. I got this idea from If you haven't visited this site yet, you have to! The projects are friggin amazing!!

Images and Tuts from

How friggin cute is this? This is a deck of playing cards, hence the 52 reasons!

A magazine subscription

I get a magazine subscription for Jason every year and he loves it. Whether it be Men's Fitness, Maxim or Playboy..boys love mags as much as we do.

Frame the cover of a sports mag

My bf is a HUGE Steelers fan, so last year when they won the Superbowl, I bought the Sports Illustrated that had their pic on the cover, bought a cheap frame and matte and voila! Instant gift.

Click here to search for Sports Illustarted covers.

♦ A skin for his phone, laptop, Ipod

This is just another way to rep his teams or make his bland lap top or cellie a little more "manly". Check out for an amazing selection of skins.

Shaving set

The Art of Shaving set available at Sephora is a great gift for the metro man in your life. The set includes a pre-shaving oil, shaving cream, after shave balm and mini cream brush. The Art of Shaving has a store in Grand Central and I've looked at a lot of their products and they are quite impressive. The products are really expensive so this is a great way to try them out. These products can be used with a standard razor or wet/dry electic razor.

The old stand by- lingerie

Who are we kidding? Everyone likes makes the recipient hot and the wearer feel hot. H&M has my favorite affordable lingerie section. Also, check out F21, Marhsalls and TJ Maxx.

A card or hand-written letter

In the time of texts, sexting and emails..a card or hand-written letter just oozes old school romance. Include a quote from a favorite movie or song for bonus points!

Happy Valentine's Day luvies!!!

Review: Avon Magix Face Perfector

After hearing all the hype about primers about a year ago I had to give a few a try. I got a sample of the Make up Forever colored primer and just didn't like the way it wore on my face through out the day. I tried Rimmel Fix and Perfect and really didn't see a difference. Avon's Magix Face Perfector with SPF 20 is the last primer I tried and a year and two bottles later, I am really loving it.

Description from
A magical air-light gel-powder colorless formula that makes all skin tones look flawless... invisible coverage; instant perfection. Banish shine up to 10 hours. Apply evenly before sun exposure or as needed. 1 fl. oz.

"This colorless formula is perfect for anyone who want to look naturally flawless and beautiful without looking like you're wearing any makeup. It's universally flattering and a secret weapon in your makeup bag."
-- Jillian Dempsey, Avon's Global Creative Color Director

Targets pores: visibly minimizes pores with patent-pending Optix Light-Diffusing Technology.

Banishes Shine: holds back shine for up to 10 hours

Smoothes Skin: reduces the look of fine feels softer than ever.

This is the dispenser. I prefer a pump, but if squeezed lightly this actually dispenses the correct amount.

Available through Avon for $10

Review: I love this stuff! The texture of this stuff is just amazing! It's really hard to describe unless you feel it. It's like a gel with a powdery finish. It smoothes on quite gently and feels like it gives the skin a powdery finish with out looking powdery or chalky. I can't say that it super minimizes my pores, but it does make a slight difference on the pores on my cheeks. It really helps my make up smooth on evenly and helps give my foundation a "done" look. It does help with the lasting power of my foundation, but not my concealer, which I find strange.

This is a great primer for those with normal to dry skin, because I don't have oily skin so I can't say how effective it is for those gals. It's a great primer for a great price that never reacted with my super sensitive skin.

Would I purchase again: Yes, but I also want to try that magic Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel lol

Face Mask Collection and Review

Face masks are an important part of any skin care regimen. They are also a great way to feel pampered and relaxed. Sheet masks have been gaining a lot of popularity lately and are a great and neat way to try out a variety of masks. I have sheet masks and normal masks for a variety of skin concerns. It's a good idea to switch masks up every now and then to address different skin problems. I know some people use a different mask every time they put on one, I like to use one type per week. I typically use a mask 2-3 times a week, but read directions on your specific mask and see how your skin reacts to them. These are just masks that I enjoy and find to work. Please be reminded I have super dry skin that is also acne prone and super sensitive. The trifecta of skin suckiness! LoL

Overall collection ( i have several of each sheet mask, but I didn't think you needed to see them all lol)

mark: calm yourself hydrating mask

Available here for $8

This soothing gel-based mask adds moisture where you need it. Blended with calming green tea and aloe, moisturizing sea moss. Plus, lemon and orange for radiance and clarity. A super hydrating complex keeps skin happy and healthy looking so you can remain calm.

Apply all over cleansed skin, avoiding eye area. Leave on for up to 5 minutes and rinse. Use 2-3 times a week.

I have dry skin, so I had high hopes for this mask for its moisturizing abilities. Unfortunately, it doesn't measure up and doesn't leave my skin any more moist then prior to usage. However, it does really make my skin radiant. In the summer I pop this in the fridge and apply it to my freshly washed skin cold. It leaves my skin radiant and temporarily tightens my pores due to the cold. I use this when my skin looks on the blah side.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

Available anywhere: Drugstores, Walmart, Target..I got mine at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $4.19

Description: Mint Julep Masque is the original natural home treatment developed by a dermatologist that helps dry up acne pimples, rinse away blackheads and shrink enlarged pores. Simply apply Mint Julep Maqsue to your clean face and neck. Within minutes it firms and hardens, drawing out impurities from your pores. After the masque is removed your skin will feel clean, refreshed and smooth. Even for individuals who are fortunately free of skin problems,Mint Julep Masque is a refreshing facial treatment that helps relax tired muscles and ease tension lines on the face and neck.

Directions: Cleanse face and neck thoroughly. Apply Mint Julep Masque generously and allow to dry for about 15 minutes. Remove with warm water and a washcloth.

Review: This is the HG skin treatment and it's friggin amazing! I use this for two weeks in a row around that time of the month when my skin is having major flare ups. This is what I use when I'm getting break outs or I notice that my skin just doesn't look as healthy as it should. For this price everyone should have this mask in their arsenal.

The Face Shop Pearl Essential Masksheet

Available: at The Face Shop, I get mine at Walgreens or $2.99 or 2 for $5

Description: The concentrations of pearl in this gentle mask sheet are effectively absorbed to clarify and refine skin.

Directions; Wash face and apply toner and carefully lift mask over face. Keep on for 15-20 minutes.

Review: This I use in the same way I use the Mark mask. This however, is the only mask where I see instant results. As soon as I take this off my skin just looks brighter. It really is quite amazing. This sheet mask doesn't fit me super well, so I kind of have to mess with it to keep it on my face and I usually wear it for about a half hour. For only $3- give this a whirl!

The Face Shop CO-Q10 Esential Masksheet

Same availability as all Face Shop masks

Description: The concentrations of Coenzyme Q10 in this gentle mask sheet are effectively absorbed into skin to leave it supple and smooth.

Same directions as above

Review: This mask I use as part of my anti-aging arsenal. Co-Q10 aids in cell turnover and this is super important in keeping skin young and firm. It's never too early to start an anti-aging skin routine.

Dermal Seaweed Collagen Essence Mask

Available: and Ebay for $1-$2 each

Description: Dermal Seaweed Collagen Essence Mask is a new essence mask which specially formulates cosmetics to penetrate highly concentrated active ingredients into the skin while keeping air out of the skin completely thus, it makes your tired skin moistened, elastic, clear and relieves your skin from stress. Use 3-4 times a week.

Directions are the same as above.

Review: This mask is tricky. This mask is not to be used on blemished or irritated skin, so I can't use this a lot. I only use it when my skin is in like OMG shape. This mask does deliver on the moisturizing though and I'm hoping this one has a vitamin E in it which I hope will lighten my acne scars.

The Face Shop Vita K Mask Sheet

Available at The Face Shop or Walgreens

Description: Formulated with Vitamin K and extracts of brown seaweed and kelp, this vitamin drenches sheet mask soothes and helps purify the skin. Vitamin K purifies the skin and helps reduce dark circles under the eyes. Patented Phytolex Nanoliposome effectively delivers beneficial ingredients deep into the skin and helps protect tired, rough skin from environmental damages.

Same directions as above

Review: I use this mask when I've spent a lot of time in the subway or city or my skin just feels dirty. I also use this a lot in the summer after spending time out side at the beach or by the pool. This really feels like it pulls impurities out of my skin and this is another mask where I can see instant results. My skin looks brighter and the pores around my nose look smaller.

I hope these reviews were helpful for you!
