Grammy 2014 Beauty Recap

A gorgeous dress just doesn't look as gorgeous without the right hair and makeup.  Here are some of the ladies who knocked their hair and makeup out of the park!

Rita Ora

So Rita Ora was just the image of Grammy perfection for me.  I LOVE her vintage pin up type of curls!  This is a look that looks great on medium length to longer hair.

Taylor Swift

Taylor's look is another one that I fell in love with at the Grammy's.  With such a super fancy dress I love that she kept her hair relatively simple with a dressed up pony.

I LOVED Ciara's undone updo.  It's such a soft and beautiful look and frames the face so beautifully.

Chrissy Teigen

I was super in love with Chrissy Teigen's entire look and I think she is my absolute new girl crush.  She looked stunning from head to toe, but the beautiful glow on her cheeks is beyond stunning!!

I know Lorde caught a lot of slack for her look at the Grammy's, but one part of her look that I did really like was her deep, dark lip.  I'm not sure if it's a look that I would try to rock, but for you bolder girls out there I'm jealous!

Grammy Fashion Recap

The Grammy's are usually known for their outrageous fashions!  However, I feel like last night's Grammy event was an exception.  There weren't a whole lot of shocking ensembles, instead most celebs decided to go subtly funky.  I have to say this was quite refreshing as it's much easier to incorporate a lot of these trends into our own non-celeb wardrobes.

Golden Glow

Gold was ALL over the red carpet (gold sippy cup anyone?)  and I am OBSESSED with this trend!  Chrissy Teigen, Ciara and Rita Ora all looked stunning in gold ensembles.  These three ladies were my best dressed.

Gold is a great color to incorporate into your wardrobe for a night out.  Wearing an entire golden dress might be a bit much for sometime, but why not try a skirt to glitz up a night out?

Plunging Neckline

How risqué and sexy can one get?  Alicia Keys looks stunning in this plunging neckline dress!  A gal needs confidence and amazing double stick tape to carry off a look like this.  I recommend this look for my gals on the smaller side up top to keep it looking classy.

Off the Shoulder

Queen Latifiah looked AMAZING last night!  This off the shoulder neckline suits her so well and is actually a neckline I want to try out!  Try this neckline in a summer dress or top for sexy without cleavage.

Who was your best dressed of the night?  Are there any trends that you will be taking away from the 2014 Grammy's??

Treat the GIrls Right!

Today we are going to take about….boobs.  Specifically, being measured for bras.  If you are not wearing the proper size bra, it can lead to all of your clothing looking sloppy, wear and tear on the girls and back and shoulder pain.

Within the past few months I have noticed that my bra straps have not been fitting properly, usually popping up off of my shoulder.

This in conjunction with the fact that my bra cups have felt too big, led to me going to my local Victoria's Secret to get measured for a bra.  Turns out, I have been wearing the long size for a long time!!

Here's a helpful video on how to measure yourself for your bra size:

Here are some helpful tips to remember when considering purchasing a bra:

*When you first purchase a bra it should fit well closed on the first clasp.  The bra will stretch a bit over time and that's when you should be using the second or third clasp.

*Make sure the cup lays flat against the fullest part of your breast.  If not, it will be visible under almost any shirt.

*When you first purchase a bra, you shouldn't have to adjust the straps more than half way up your shoulder.  Again, it will stretch over time and if you have to pull the strap all the way back from the beginning, you won't be able to adjust it further when it stretches.

*Don't worry about sizes!!  Wearing a bra too small or too big because you're stuck on being a particular size is not going to make the girls look bigger or smaller.

January Ipsy/Glam last one

So why did I decide to cancel my Glam Bag?  I do enjoy getting it every month and there have been some random products that I really enjoy.  However, I'm really trying to cut back on little unnecessary expenses and this bag is one of them.
The fact that I found this month's bag a little less than stellar, further cemented my idea to cancel my subscription.

*Zippered pouch- Didn't like this month's bag at all.  It's a blue bag with lighter blue outlines of makeup and skincare bottles.  I just didn't like the material of this bag.

*Benefit POREfessional Primer-  Benefit products and I usually don't get along, so this small sample sized product will be going to a friend.

*Yaby Liquid Foundation in Buff- This is a brand that I see a lot on HSN and I was quite interested in them.  This color looks a tad dark for my current super pale skin, but I can't wait to try it out.

*Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm- This is a brand I've never heard of, but it smells yummy so once I run out of the hundreds other lip balms I currently have open, I will give this one a try.

*Absolute Makeup Cleansing Tissue- I could always use makeup wipes, so I can't complain about these.

*Balanced Guru Balm Me Up Organic Sweet Cocoa and Tangy Body Balm- As I'm trying to go more natural with my products, I was happy to see a certified organic and cruelty free product in the bunch.  The scent of this is product is very interesting and it's very thick and emollient.  It seems like a great moisturizer for the dry, winter months.

One day I might come back and resubscribe to this service, but for the moment I am only subscripted to the Fortune Cookie Soap Box which is $20 and sent out seasonally.  I couldn't go "box-less" as I love getting mail so much!

Empties Time!

I keep making my way through a lot of of my products.  I haven't purchased any skincare or body items in a while.  I did get some body lotions and scrubs for Christmas, but I do not plan on making any purchases until I get through another few bottles of lotions and potions.

*Philosophy Hope in a Jar- This is a great moisturizer for dry, winter skin.  It didn't break out my super sensitive skin and isn't incredibly expensive.  Unfortunately, Philosophy is not a cruelty free brand so I will not be repurchasing.

*Coral Actives Moisturizer for Acne Prone Skin- This lotion I received in my Be Pretty Box.  I used this is as my morning daily moisturizer and I really liked it.  I can't say that it controlled acne, but it didn't break me out.  I think this is a discontinued item because I can't seem to locate it, or else I would've considered repurchasing it.

*Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel-  I tend to switch over to a gel cleanser for the summer and this sample sized bottle did the job.  It balanced out my skin nicely without over drying.  Unfortunately, Boscia is no longer cruelty free so I won't be repurchasing.

Makeup and Misc.

*EOS Lip Balm- I loved EOS lip balms for a long time, but now there are so many types and kinds out there that I am interested in trying new brands.

*Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation- This was my HG foundation since it came out basically, but Revlon went the way of not being cruelty free so I'm done with it.  It's such a shame because this foundation was amaze balls and cheap!!

*Mark Mattifying Powder- This powder isn't empty, but I have had it for so long that it's just gotten a bit funky.  I don't use mattifying powders all that often as I prefer blotting sheets.

*Adult Gummies Multi- I go through these adult gummy vitamins every other month and I love them.  It's the only way I remember to take my daily vitamins.

Body Care

*BBW Vanilla Noir Body Cream- This body cream is amazing and it smells divine.  I've rarely had a problem with Bath and Body Works' products.

*Alba Very Emollient Shave Cream- I did really enjoy this all natural shave cream, but since I discovered the one by Trader Joes this one is dead to me!

*Honest Body Oil- I have really been enjoying my products from the Honest Company.  I wish they were sold in stores!  This was a great moisturizing body oil that dried pretty quickly.  It was a tad on the greasy side though.

*Scent Bar Body Wash- This body wash smelled amazing!  It smelled like summer vacation.  I got this is a gift and I have never seen this brand in stores, or else I would be repurchasing.

*L'Occitane Brightening Hand Cream- I forgot where I received this sample, but it was a rather milky texture that I wasn't a huge fan of.  I won't be repurchasing.

*The Body Shop Brazil Nut Body Butter- I did love this body butter and it smells amazing, but I'm not really a fan of products in tubs.  To me it just seems not as sanitary.

Have you used any of the products mentioned above?  I'd love to know your take on them!

Fashion Trend Report: Golden Globes 2014

The 2014 award season kicked off on Sunday night with the Golden Globes.  Personally, I thought the fashion was AH-mazing!  So many newcomers brought it all to the red carpet and left the seasoned starlets in the dust!

While these dresses are more than I could ever afford to pay on a dress, we can take the trends from these outfits and incorporate them into our own personal style!

Red Dress

I'll admit, when Lupita Nyong'o walked on to the red carpet I had no idea who she was, but I was in absolute awe of her stunning look.  Not only is she gorgeous, but the red dress and cape she wore stood out as my automatic favorite!  I can't wait to see what she wears to the rest of the awards shows!

This sort of dress just isn't made to fit my budget, but that doesn't mean we all can't rock a red fitted dress in our wardrobe!

Emerald Green Shoes

Margot Robbie is another newcomer to the red carpet.  This stunner from The Wolf Of Wall Street showed up in a beautiful, elegant and sexy white gown with emerald trim.  This dress is also a difficult one to translate into a budget friendly look, but a trend we broke gals can take from this look?  Stand out emerald green shoes!

Drop Earrings

While I wasn't a huge fan of Jennifer Lawrence's dress, I did love her drop earrings!  This is a style that all of us can incorporate into our style and on a super budget!  I'm usually a studs type of girl, but I may have to give drop earrings a try.

Black Sweetheart

I must admit, Kate Beckinsale is one of my major girl crushes.  She is just so stunningly gorgeous.  Her dress at the Golden Globes really knocked it out of the park for me.  The amazing metallic detailing was stunning, but what really stood out to me was the sweetheart cut of the dress and how insanely flattering and sexy it was.

This is a great trend to pull off for nights out as it's effortlessly sexy without showing too much.  Try rocking a sweetheart cut LBD for your next big night out!

My 2014 Winter Bucket List

It's reached an all time new low here in the Northeast.  No, literally.  Lowest temperatures that I have ever seen in my lifetime!  While this cold weather has gotten a lot of people dreaming about me summer, I'm more of a realist.  I know winter is going to be here for a while, and judging on what this season has given us so far this year, it's going to be a looooooooong one.  We might as well make the best of it!!

This led me to making my first ever Winter Bucket List!

1.  Make a snow angel

2.  Go iceskating (preferably outside)

3.  Go snow tubing

4.  Make hot cocoa stove top

5.  Bake cookies on a snowy day

6.  Eat at a restaurant with a fireplace (no Panera or Cosi doesn't count!)

7.  Hit up an indoor pool

8.  Arm knit a scarf

9.  Make a DIY room freshener

10.  Have a carpet picnic

Quick Tip Thursday: Repurposing Candles….Again

I love my crappy little tarte burner that I bought at Costco years ago.  It's ugly, filthy and a not my style, but I don't know what about it, it helps scents travel further than candle does.  Sometimes though, I don't love the scentsy like cubes that Walmart and Target sell and want something more along the lines of my Bath and Body Works scents.

Well, when a candle won't burn down anymore and you're left with that little bit of wax in the bottom, pop the candle in the freezer for a few hours, use a butter knife to take out the wax and plop it in your burner!  It's like a free tarte!

Right now I have my favorite, Marshmallow Fireside!!

My Beauty Emergency Car Kit

As a suburbanite I spend a lot of time in my car.  Unless I'm going into the city, I'm traveling by car. I decided to put together a little beauty emergency kit to keep in my car so I don't have to haul around all of this stuff in my purse!
If you don't want to keep this in your car (due to temperatures maybe?) than it would be a great thing to stash in your desk for impromptu happy hours.

I got this cute Coach makeup bag for Christmas from my dad.  It's a nice material and easy to clean in case something spills on or in it.

*Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo- I feel like every beauty emergency kit should contain a dry shampoo!  This dry shampoo not only sops up oil, but provides great volume!  It also gives your hair a bit of texture in case you want to throw it up into some sort of undo.

*Mini Hairbrush- I don't know about you, but this constant change of cold weather into heated buildings and constant hair crushing  by jackets makes my hair turn into a rat's nest!  A baby brush is a must!

*Victoria's Secret Lotion and Body Spray- I normally have a hand lotion and body spray in my purse, but in case I have a clutch for some reason or want something a bit more girly I go for this combo of Victoria's Secret Such a Flirt Lotion and Aqua Kiss Body Spray.

*The Body Shop Coconut Oil Hair Shine- This pomade is great in TINY doses for providing hair with shine and for taming frizzies.  It also smells AMAZING!

*Secret Deodorant- No one likes a stanky gal!

*Hair Tie and Bobby Pins- I usually have a hair tie around my wrist or in my purse, but again it's nice to have an extra just in case.  I also have a lot more bobby pins in my emergency bag, but didn't need to show you all of them.  I need to get a cute little container of some sort to store my bobby pins in.

*Pointed Q-Tips- I was going to keep a sample size bottle of eye makeup remover in my bag, but no matter where I take remover and what kind I take, it always seems to leak!  This q-tips will have to do until I get to Target to get that ELF Eye Makeup Remover Stick.

Does anyone else keep a beauty emergency kit in their car, desk or purse?  I'd love to know what else to add to mine!!

**The Not Your Mother's Dry Shampoo was sent to me by Influenster in a Voxbox.  I am not affiliated with Not Your Mother's or Influenster in anyway.  All other items were purchased by me or gifted by friends and family.

Top 13 of 2013

2013 has come and gone!  As I looked through my makeup stash I noticed that there are some products that I reach for literally almost every day.  These are the stand outs from my collection.

Here are my top 13 products of 2013….

*Care & Style Wave Hair Milk- I bought this at Mitsuwa in Jersey when I had my blogger's day out.  During the summer I love doing heat free curl styles and this helps bring out any natural curl in my hair without leaving any crunchiness.

*Lush Big Shampoo-  I love this shampoo! I've gone through two of these this year.  I use this on Sundays as a deep cleansing for my scalp and hair.  I don't notice a huge bump in my volume, but my scalp feels so much cleaner and refreshed.

*The Honest Co. Honest Conditioning Mist- I love this detangler and conditioning mist!  I use it every time I wash my hair.  It smells so amazingly delicious and it really helps a comb go through my knotty hair.  Plus, it's natural and cruelty free!

*Real Techniques Expert Face Brush- This brush is AMAZING!  This is the only Real Techniques product I've tried, but I am dying to try more.  It blends liquid or cream foundation into my skin so seamlessly.  For the price, this brush really can't be beat.

*Physicians Formula Conceal Rx- This is a great under eye concealer.  While the staying power isn't the absolute best, it does cover dark circles and with a good under eye setting powder this could definitely work for you.

*Josie Maran Argan Highlighter-  I received this in some Sephora set (I forget which) and didn't begin using it until fall. This product is gorgeous, especially on fair skin.  I also like that this has argan oil in it, so it's like a treatment and highlighter in one.

*Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Chocolate-  I received this in my Sephora Sun Care set and it was love at first sight!  Even though this is the darker shade of this bronzer, I use it with a light hand to make it work.  Did I mention this smells like chocolate??  If you haven't tried this yet, I highly recommend it.

*WnW Color Icon Blush in Mellow Wine- I have 2 of the WnW Color Icon blushes and I love both of them.  They are incredibly smooth and pigmented.  This color is more on the berry side and gives my pale skin a great natural flush.

*WnW Single Shadow in Nutty- I've had this shadow forever and it's amazing!  I use this shadow on my lazy makeup days as this one single color gives me an entire eye look.

*28 Shade Neutral Palette-  This is another product that I've had for a long time, but I just began using it regularly within the past 7-8 months.  I love the variety of finishes in this palette and the neutral shades are just perfect.  Search for this on ebay or Amazon as it is a must have!

*Buxom Lipgloss in Dolly-  I received this in my Ipsy bag a few months ago and I really enjoy the tingly sensation that these Buxom glosses give.  I also like the mauve color of this gloss as I feel it makes my teeth feel whiter.

*It Cosmetics Universal Brow Power Pencil-  2013 was the year of my brows.  I finally learned how to shape and fill them properly and this pencil is a great tool in helping me to do that!  The color changes depending on how hard you press down on the pencil so it's almost like having several shades of brow pencil in one.

*Mally Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Liner in Black Violet- I have quite a few Mally liners and while I enjoy them all, the subtle black/purple color of this liner makes me love it more than the others.  It's just a bit less harsh than a typical black liner which makes it easier to wear day to day.
