My Resolutions for 2014

So the time has come to make resolutions for the new year.  Some people dread this time of year and some people think that January 1st is a magical day where everything starts fresh.  While I don't think I'm any different on January 1st, than I was on December 31st, I do like the idea of a fresh start.  So every year I make a list of resolutions and try to stick to it!

Here are my resolutions for 2014……

1.  Travel somewhere that requires a passport

I am almost 29 years old and I don't even have a passport!  So I guess my first step is to apply for a passport and then my second step is to travel somewhere (I don't care where at this point!) that requires a passport.

2.  Meal plan and meal prep

This year has probably been my healthiest year to date.  I've worked out regularly and at times (not recently!) have engaged in very healthy eating habits.  I want to bump that up a step and start meal planning and cooking a majority of my meals for the week on Sunday.

3.  Get into a hot yoga or yoga routine

I need some more relaxation and ommmm in my life so I really want to get into the habit of attending a yoga class.  I have a yoga dvd which I do every now and then, but considering I am not flexible at all, I really want to attend a class to make sure I'm doing postures correctly.

4.  Read more regularly and not just fluff

I love to read, but I don't really do it enough.  I have plenty of time to do it, but I don't do it enough.  This year I am going to attempt to read 2 books a month and not just fluff.  I want to read some serious stuff as well!

5.  Journal and scrapbook

I use my phone to take pictures every now and then, but I don't use it to capture enough memories and then to actually print out the pictures!!  This year I want to journal and scrapbook my memories so I always have them to reflect on.

6.  Limit my shopping

I'm actually really good when it comes to budgeting my money and laying off shopping.  However, sometimes I buy things that I just don't need because they are on sale or it's a great deal.  I want to start investing in finer quality clothing, makeup and skincare items.  There are also a few items I need to refrain from buying in 2014: black pencil eyeliners, face masks, hair masks, and curling irons.

7.  Volunteer my time, not just my money

Last year I donated to some charities that I feel very strongly about.  This year I would like to donate my time to charities as well.  It's about time I started giving back.

What are some of your resolutions this year?  Do you tend to stick to them?

Makeup Your New Years Resolution Tag

I was hoping to see a New Year's tag going around and I finally saw one!  I am going to have my New Year's Resolution post up next, but I thought this would be a fun tag to kick off my 2013 wrap ups!

1.  What makeup technique did you improve on most?
The makeup technique I improved on the most (THANK GOODNESS!) is filling in and shaping my brows.  I watched so many brow tutorials on Youtube and finally was able to figure out what worked for my brows and my face shape.

2.  Most used makeup product this year
To keep in line with number 1, I loved using this It Cosmetics Universal Brow Power Pencil.  I began using this again some time over the summer and have been using it pretty much every day since.

3.  What brand would you like to try in the upcoming year?
Since I have been trying to go more natural this year, I really would like to try RMS Beauty.  I've heard a lot about this brand, and even got to sample one of their concealers.

4.  Any products you want to use up this year?
I would LOVE to be able to use up any lip color.  I have so many damn lip glosses, lip balms, lip stains, that I would love to be able to finish just one!

5.  What is your favorite winter activity and what would outfit and makeup would you wear to do this activity?
Although I am a winter baby, I do not like the cold….at all.  So my favorite winter activity is staying inside watching movies or reading a book.  I won't even mention the outfit and makeup necessary for these activities because it's embarrassing.

6.  One bad makeup habit to break in the New Year
I tug at my eye sometimes when lining my eyes and considering I'm so hyper vigilant about anti-aging doesn't make sense.

7.  A Youtuber you enjoyed this year..
I have discovered SO many amazing Youtubers this year and I enjoy watching them along with the Youtubers I've remained faithful to for years!  If I HAD to choose just one, I would say my new favorite is CloudyApples.  She's stunning, hilarious and uses mainly natural/cruelty free products!

8.  Will you be wearing lipstick or lipgloss when the ball drops at midnight?
Considering I will only be kissing one of my girlfriends I can wear whatever I want!

9.  Best New Year's Eve memory?
This is going to sound so sad!  My freshman year of college I came up for Christmas break with a lovely case of mono.  By the time New Year's Eve came around I felt a bit better, but definitely not up to going out.  My best friend Anthony came to spend the night with me and we ate junk food and watched Sex and the City all night and it was the best.

10.  Best thing that happened to you this year
I would have to say making new friends.  I've gained some amazing and beautiful friendships in 2013 and rekindled some old friendships as well.  I am a very lucky gal!

11.  Describe the year 2013 in 3 words

12.  What activity or hobby do you want to take up in 2014?
I want to become a better cook and try a lot more clean eating recipes.  I also want to get back into scrapbooking or Smashbooking and become a lot better at memory keeping.

13.  If you won the lottery in 2014, what charity would you donate it to?
Since I was little there's been on charity that has been closer to me than all of the rest and that's Penn State's Thon.  Yes, being a Penn Stater I am totally biased.  But this amazing charity is a 46 hour dance marathon to raise money for the fight against pediatric cancer.  PSU students have raised millions of dollars which have help funded a pediatric cancer wing at Hershey Hospital, has funded research and also provides financial support to families struggling to pay for cancer treatments.  It's amazing.

14.  What food or beverage are you going to try to give up in 2014?
I am going to try to cut back on my diet coke consumption.  I know how bad diet sodas are for me, it's just a vice I can't give up.  I don't know if I will be able to give it up altogether, but I will definitely try to cut back as much as possible.

15.  What food or beverage are you going to try in 2014?
2013 was a big year for me in trying new foods.  A food that I thought I hated for years and years was shrimp.  I now LOVE shrimp!  So the next seafood I plan on trying is salmon, because it's supposedly super healthy and one of the easier fish to cook.

16.  If you could have one of your dreams come true in 2014, what would it be and why?
This is going to sound INCREDIBLY cornball, but I want to fall in 2014.  I'm ready to begin my "grown up" life and falling in love and finding a legit career are 2 big to-do's for my 2014 self.

I would LOVE to read anyone else's tag, as I think this is a bit deeper than the typical beauty blogger tag!  Let's make 2014 the best year yet!

Quick Tip: Make those Resolutions Stick!!!

2014 is a less than a week away and that means it's time to make those dreaded New Years' Resolutions.  The past few years I've actually made New Year's Resolutions and some I stuck with and some I just sucked at.

The biggest piece of advice that I think anyone can give when making a New Year's Resolution is to write them down!  Write them down and make sure they are visible to you on a daily basis.  Let's see if we can all make 2014 the year we can stick to those resolutions!

Winterlicious Tag

My lovely readers know that I am a huge fan of tags.  I saw Julie G doing this Winterlicious Tag and I just had to jump on the bandwagon!

1.  Favorite Winter Nail Polish

I can't say that I have one.  Any "Christmas" read is a ok in my book.

2.  Favorite Winter Lip Product

My lips get super dry during the winter so my favorite lip product is my Lush Lip Scrub.  You can just make your own scrub for much cheaper, but I like having this right next to the sink and I use it every morning before brushing my teeth.

3.  Most worn winter clothing piece

I have been obsessed with these fleece lined leggings that I ordered from Jane.com.  They are super comfy, not as warm as I thought, but good for those days in the 40's.

4.  Most worn winter accessory

I have been loving this knit infinity scarf from Charming Charlies.  It's super toasty and very chic.  It does shed a bit, but I usually just go over it with a lint brush prior to putting it on and I'm good.

5.  Favorite winter beverage

I'm not a peppermint or brûlée type of gal, so my favorite winter beverage is my Dunkin Donuts Vanilla coffee with a splash of vanilla creamer.  So yum!

6.  Favorite holiday movie

I love, love, love holiday movies.  I watch all of them and cry pretty much every time.  While I do adore me some Elf and Polar Express, my favorite is The Holiday.  It gives me hope!

7.  Favorite Christmas song

Again, I love Christmas songs as much as I love Christmas movies.  My current favorite is Kurt and Blaine's version of Baby It's Cold Outside from Glee.

8.  Favorite holiday treat

I LOVE peanut butter blossom cookies.  I make them every year and my level of obsession with peanut butter is very high!

9.  Favorite holiday decoration

I've had this calendar since I was only 2 years old and it's my favorite decoration to take out every year.  The original mouse is long gone but I've had this Gus Gus Mcdonald's toy for years that makes a perfect replacement.

10.  Favorite gift received as a child

My grandparents bought me all of my American Girl Dolls when I was little and they were my absolute favorite.  I still have them and would love to be able to pass them on to a daughter one day.

11.  What's on my Christmas list this year

My number one item on my list this year is a Fitbit.  I've been super interested in being more aware of my body for the new year and I think this is a great way to be more aware of my movement every day.

12.  My plans for the holiday

Today is Christmas Eve and I will be spending the evening with my dad and some of our family friends.  Tomorrow I will wake up and open presents with my mom and have a delish ham brunch.  Later tomorrow evening I will be going to my dad's and having dinner with him and my doggy.

I want to wish everyone a Merry, Merry Christmas!  I hope wherever you and whoever you are with that you are happy and have the same warm, fuzzy feeling that I have!

December Glam Ipsy Bag

I felt like I was on such a roll with my Ipsy bags and then came December.  This month was just a disappointment to me.  I really expected to be blown away by a holiday themed December bag and the bag was just dullsville.

*Nicka K New York Nail Color in Ripe Apple ($4.99 for received full size)- So this bottle is beautiful and the color is stunning.  I'm not big on doing my own nails, but I need to get better to save some money!  I will test this out to see how the formula is and report back!

*Mirabella Eye Blender Brush ($27 for received full size)- Wow $27 for a single eye brush?  I've only used this once and I enjoyed it a lot, but I don't know if I would pay $27 for it!

*Pop Beauty Bright Up Your Life Eyeshadow Trio in Naturally Bare ($24 for 10 shadow palette- received 3 shadow palette)- I may have enjoyed this product if I didn't already own so many neutral shadows.  I'm going to try to swap this!

*Be a Bombshell's The One Stick in Sunset ($16 for received full size)- This is one of those cream blush, lip stick, multipurpose kind of sticks.  Again a product I may have liked if not for the color.  No matter how lightly I apply it, it just doesn't look right on my super pale skin.

*J Cat Beauty Big Lip Pencil in Caramel Mocha ($3.99 for received full size)- Ipsy has sent me a few big lip pencils that I end up using a lot.  This one is no exception.  I really like this super neutral color and I've become a fan of J Cat Beauty!

My favorite part of this month's Ipsy Glam Bag is actually the bag!  It's really cute and edgy and I'm going to try to find some use for it.

As the products, the value is still great.  I received approximately $64 worth of products for only $10, but considering I don't plan on using half of them- this bag wasn't my favorite!

What did you receive in your December Ipsy Bag?  Did you enjoy yours?

I love reading and watching holiday gift guides and now it's time for the Fabulously Thrifty version.  Version 1 is stocking stuffers!!!

A journal is a great multipurpose gift for anyone in your life.  Some people use it to actual journal, some may use it as a planner, some use it as a remember all.  This beauty from Barnes and Nobles is great for a man or woman.

I lose my earbuds almost as much as I lose my keys (do you sense a pattern here?!).  These earbuds are super cheap and actually work really well!

Bath products are always such an easy way to make someone feel pampered!  My favorite places to get bath products are Lush and Bath and Body Works, but check at any local "gifty" kind of shop for local bath goodies.
